Many of the remaining K-Marts were bought out by Sears, but since then, Sears hasnot re-opened the Supper K-marts or any closed K-Mart stores. We see commercials for K-mart all the time, but there are none in Texas.
In the area I moved to, there isn´t a Kmart store. Unfortunately, Sears is about to go under anyway and when they do, Kmart will follow. I would be surprised if each remaining Kmart store in NY made $500,000.00+ yearly.
@Jeff98177 That Borders will not close coz its the most successful Borders in my part of the city. The other one is next door to one mall (10 miles away).TheKMart (next to Border) is fine, the center is small but it does fairly well business wise. There is a new McD's and Trader Joe's across the street too.The other Borders will close tho,4 others(in the next town) and one was in a nice area.I think its closing coz its across from a mall.I am sure there is a B & N in that mall or outside of it.
@Jeff98177 REI is moving into old Borders so I guess it will do well. Its a nice shopping center with a Lowes hardware,a popular pizza place and across the street is a new center with fancy Whole Foods.
@chipethecat I imagine many will close but stay open where they're doing well.In my town Borders closed but REI is moving into that spot so I guess it will do well.I need to go see that list of Sears and KMarts that are closing.
@HattieLovesCattie I FUCKIN HATE WALMART AND I HAVE 4 MONTHS WITHOUT BUY ANYTHING FROM THAT FUCKIN STORE.KMART IS BETTER PLACE FOR SHOPPING THAN WALMART.BUT IF KMART CONTINUES LOSING GROUND AGAINST WALMART COULD BE DISSAPEAR.
One time, two relatives of mine ate at The Sandwich Shoppe and they saw a roach crawling around. This was in 1992. Kmart closed down because the manager did not want to renew the lease. I bought memorabilia from there and a representative from Sears told me that.
Well, at least it lasted thirty years. This store outlived several department stores on East Ridge Rd. that have come and gone. It even outlived an 18 year old shopping mall down a ways from there.
The only problem I had in Irondequoit Mall/Medley Centre was with an 18 year old female security guard. She told me I could not take pictures of the mall´s interior. Mind you, this place will close in January and I told her that as I stormed out of there. I´ve been back since then, but never saw her again. :-D
It's like my town's mall, the Oak Ridge Mall/Oak Ridge City Center which is basically empty now. They said they will turned it back into a opening up shopping area like it was in the 50s to early 80s before it was a mall in the late 80s but it has been over 8 years they said that and they still haven't done nothing to it yet. It went downhill until the mid 90s. Crown American purchased the property in the late 80s and they turned it into a mall which failed miserably.
At least our Kmart is still open and I work there but the Super Wal-Mart cross the street has a lot more customers than we do though. Oh Wal-Mart is behind the mall. Our mall only has few stores now like Belk, Sears, JC Penney, and Goody's (which is going out of business) and our movie theater next door.
FUCKING WALMART,IS KILLING KMART SLOWLY.

My KMart is in a nice shopping center next to Borders so its doing fine. They remodeled it a few years ago so that helped.

It´s nice to hear that one Kmart store is still doing well.
hondolespaul 2 years ago
It just depends on what part of town the store is in.

For some odd reason, the old Irondequoit Mall/Medley Centre is still open to mall walkers. Mind you, this place is supposed to be closed.

Yes...its sad to see so many of the old favorites closing.
