For those unfamiliar with the movie Elephant walk. The movie was supposed to be a commentary on Colonialism. Elisabeth Taylor in the movie is the English wife of a British Tea planter in Sri Lanka who is Peter finch. This is during the period when the British ruled Sri Lanka. Anyway to cut a long story short, the elephants are a metaphor for the Sri Lankan people. At the end of the movie the behavior of the elephants represents the anger at their sacred land being colonized by a foreign power.
Good video, although I would like to point out this 1950s movie starring Elisebeth Taylor was shot in Sri Lanka not Africa. However Sri Lanka is an exotic colourful country and has a similar climate to Africa, so yes the music for this video was good and appropriate :)
I had a passing feeling that you may soon be able to embrace your dear friend once again, (Michael) - even if only for a brief period - while you both continue on your soul journeys.
You were a very good actress, Elizabeth - beautiful of face & blessed with a lovely nature. You left your hometown of London all those years ago & became a Hollywood legend. I will remember you - not just as a legend, but as a good soul, who always stood by another beautiful soul - Michael Jackson.
I was only 7 when my parents saw this at the local Drive-In theater. We kids were supposed to sleep in the back seat of our '48 Buick, but I couldn't. I remember the plot: the stately mansion was built directly in the way of an elephant path, and the elephants eventually knocked the place down. The old Punjabi who is killed by the elephants @06:25 was called "Aah-Poo-HAHM-mee". You can see Liz mouthing his name as he is killed. That and the burning portrait at the end are what I remember best.
Liz Taylor was so gorgeous. he only person I can think of who was prettier than Liz was Vivien Leigh. Vivien was more like a beautiful delicate porcelain doll, but I think Liz had more of a sexy look to her. Vivien is my favorite, but Liz comes in very close second.
This nice montage of Elephant Walk reveals the color and majesty of the actual motion picture, but one must see the actual movie for the story line, beautiful music score and action scenes par excellance and of course the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor.
This nice montage of Elephant Walk reveals the color and majesty of the actual motion picture, but one must see the actual movie for the story line, beautiful music score and actions scenes par excellance.
The actors of the 40's were the best, they were part of the greatest generation. Because they went through WW2, making movies while our greatest heros were watching these movies and the next day dying on the battle fields in forign lands, those are the greatest heros. They fought to prevent war from reaching this sacred soil. Jazzyhorn111 Louisiana
We could debate her best film till the cows came home - but I think she was the best in Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf, & Cat on a hot tin roof. Sensational!
richardbassett1956 - "Elizabeth Taylor gave birth to her 1st son on 1-6-53. 7 weeks later she was in front of the camera filming, "Elephant Walk" (released on 4-21-54) with a perfect 19 in. waist. She was a 21 y. o. true beauty." Thanks 4 sharing that info, didn't know that. Yes, she was GORGEOUS! So was V. Leigh in GWTW.
I agree that Elizabeth Taylor is one of the most beautiful women in the world. In my opinion, so was Vivien Leigh and Marilyn Monroe. Impossible loveliness, almost unearthly beauty, all three of them!
I think Elizabeth Taylor is the most repeat most beautiful star Hollywood ever had. Don't try to compare with any other star. She is God"s most exquisitely chiselled woman on earth.
I often wondered if they were able to film some portions of this movie with Vivien Leigh in them. Miss Taylor did provide a good rendition of the part; however, I couldn't help but wonder had it been my favorite actress, Vivien Leigh, that finished the movie----
They kept the long shots of Vivien Leigh and all of the dialog, scenes and close ups were of Elizabeth Taylor. So in you see a distant shot, it is of Vivien Leigh.
Goodness Gracious---you are so right!!! at the airport--descending down the steps of the airplane (long shot) That is Vivien Leigh--I'd recognize the walk, her stride--anywhere--that is so Vivien Leigh..
And it's Vivien Leigh in the shots in the car travelling to Elephant Walk, as well as all the actual locations in Ceylon, cleverly combined with the studio shots of Taylor. Everything on location is Vivien Leigh, not Elizabeth Taylor.
Sometimes we folks over 50 forget that to a lot of you younger people, all Elizabeth Taylor is , is some fat overmade up woman in a wheel chair that's on the news all the time. My generation WILL ALWAYS think of Elizabeth as one of the most beautiful actress to ever appear in films. Even today, you see the woman but will always remember the legend.
@PutannaXXX I can tell you for sure that I'm only 21 but, having seen Dame Elizabeth Taylor...wow the first movie I saw her in was one called "Suddenly Last Summer" with Monty Clift and I was blown away by her acting and beauty. From that pt. on I've bought almost every movie she's ever done. She's still beautiful inside and out though and her heart is a good one as well as her spirt. Love you lots Dame Elizabeth!!
@PutannaXXX I'm 15, and I heard about Elizabeth Taylor today, so I looked her up online and on Youtube. I really respect and admire her now. She seems like a wonderful lady. She seems like she has a lot of grace and class, nothing like mostly all of today's Hollywood stars. She really is a special person.
I hope you are not correct. I didn't think much of her, but now I'm borderline obsessed. lol j/k. Im 28, and I seriously appreciate her beauty, charm, and humor.
yeah that is my goal i just get hipnotize by her beauty,i have alot of pictures that i been collecting from the internet but it's hard to find a good website,do you khow any page where i can find some of her pics?it would be very helpful, thank you=)
In this film, I believe that Elizabeth is perhaps the prettiest woman I have ever seen. I also love her in LTIS Paris. I also really enjoy Jeanne Crain in State Fair, Maureen O'hara in Sinbad and Bagdad, just to name of few.
My question is for Richard. Knowing this, what other films do you think I would enjoy looking at Liz? You mentioned the "close modeling fims"? Also any other actress you recommend would be welcome as well.
Love her in this movie -- so young, gorgeous, and so fragile. She was very much the same in "The Last Time I Saw Paris". This was a very different Liz than the Martha in "Virginia Woolf" twelve years later!
The scintillating Elizabeth Taylor stars in this lesser-known classic as a young girl from London who falls in love with a tea plantation owner from Elephant Walk, British Ceylon (current day Sri Lanka). William Dieterle does a masterful job of bringing a somewhat dark, and almost eerie, undertone to this romance and the sets were some of the most beautiful I've seen with the black and white themed mansion and the gorgeous island scenery.
Funny how patriarchy always imposes impossible beauty standards on women. A high profile woman gives birth and has a 'perfect' 19 inch waist after having it stretched out for 10 months. Baby machine and sex object. Woman's 2 most important roles in a patriarchy. Shove it.
AS I recall her arrogant husband, deliberately built his mansion on what was known as 'elephant walk' which was a centuries old trail the elephants used to get from one territory to the next. In the film's finale, the elephants reclaim the trail, destroying the house.
"This time it was being played out on an elephant stomping ground in Africa"?

quite get the music choices here. Still, what you contribute is always
appreciated.
