I had also noticed the strong parallel in the rhythmic motif between this song and Pat Metheny Group's "Are You Going With Me?" The first time I heard "Cruising for Bruising" I immediately thought of the Metheny song. I wonder if she was inspired by that? I was lucky enough to have met Basia on her "Sweetest Illusion" tour - she, Danny, and Peter are all very nice in person and signed autographs for me. I didn't like her manager at that time though - he wouldn't let me get a photo of myself with them!

I don't think the drummer missed a beat, around 2:55 you can hear the keyboard go off track and at 3:11 the glitch causes a complete loss of sound. I really don't think there were any parts where the drummer/drummers messed up, but that's just my opinion.

That's possible, but I think it's more likely the video picture and and audio are not synchronized very well. I have seen that many times in YouTube and other amateur posted videos - OK technology but not 100%, high-definition quality. It's still listenable, as long as you keep that in mind.

Truly unforgettable. She is an artist who sounds much better when singing live (IMHO). Her voice seems deeper, richer, and more resonant live than recorded. My favorite of her albums is BOB (live in NYC), followed by TSI.

I've had the CD for years and crank it up often. This video gives me a new appreciation for the performance, the keyboards are perfect and unlike the CD version the Sax is a perfect addition. Basia digs down deep and becomes the song.

This clip is special not only because you actually are hearing her live and not a recording, but also that she's just so in the song and pouring her heart into it. The intro licks that Danny plays on keyboards...wow, they just brings me chill bumps before she comes in. Watch her at the end as she bows to the audience...she's blinking back a tear. Don't worry about it, Basia, I'm blinking back a whole bunch of 'em when I play this....

This band is NO WHERE near as tight as the one she used on the Live On Broadway CD. The drummer and bass player are all over the place and the sax solo was awful. Listen to the live CD, it is incredible.

Yes, it was a very awkward start. I agree, the drummer just about messed up the whole intro. I had to watch a couple of times, but Danny played an extra note on keyboards to get the drummer's tempo up to speed. Danny White and Basia are very talented songwriters and musicians. Love Basia's voice.

The tempo is not off: it's slower, and it's LIVE - as in, the band is actually playing, and Basia is actually singing as opposed to a lip-synched appearance. This song was released in 1989 or 1990, so the performance is probably from around that time.
