I seriously can't wait for the movie, finished the book last night, excellent conclusion to the trilogy i didnt want katniss to die :) she didnt :P ive finished the book now i dont kno what else to read, it literally took over my life at one point. :|
Ok I couldn't let go of this book! It came with me to dinner, soccer practice, even church ;) I mean I think about it every day it is amazing and amazing and Amazing!!!!!!!!! Read it right now go to Barnes and Noble and read it! You will NOT be dissapointed!
This book was like nothing i've ever read! I remember it was so good I had to bring it with me out to dinner and read it under the table. I originally read the first and second books a year ago, so I'm re-reading them now and then I'll finally, slowley as to saver the pages, read my copy of mockingjay :]
The most disturbing problem I have with this series is the fact that I must wait soo long for the third in the trilogy! Absolutely haunting and thought-provoking...Katniss is a such a strong and realistic protagonist.
@MrsGroomable I cant wait to read it too!!! but I really hope Katniss will pick Peeta insted of Gale, because peeta took the first chance he gets to get with Katniss and Gale he waited till after peeta told her of his feelings...oh and when they make a movie about this then I really WISH they dont use anyone from the Twight movie... :D
I just finished it! It was great - really well devised and thought out. I have to say, though, that when I read it I was with Katniss. I didn't view it as an audience member. I felt like i was in her head, and I wished I was writing it because I felt her pulling against my will.
And, as you said about the Games being a symptom of the problem - the whole way through I wondered how she was going to bring down the system!
I agree with you. I was thinking the whole time how Peeta was trying to protect Katniss and save her life when she knew that eventually they would have to die. Well at least one of them. I really thought the ending was a HUGE cliff hanger. But also it had a really nice twist to it! :)
Just to fan the flames a bit -- I'm over halfway finished with my ARC copy of Catching Fire. Ms. Collins has lost none of the momentum of The Hunger Games -- if anything, it's even more intense and exciting!
Melissa, THANK YOU so much for talking about The Hunger Games in this video! I'd been wondering whether I should read it for a while, and your enthusiasm about it really tipped the scale and I ended up going out and buying it a few days later. I absolutely loved it, and I cannot wait for Catching Fire!
i really liked the hunger games because it was such an original idea but i have no idea how shes gonna continue it because what kept me reading was costant suspense which never gave up but i dont know how the author will do that in the second book
who wins? My class is reading it aloud and im just dying to know if Peeta and Katnis like kill each other or she thinks of a different plan.. Please tell me :]
o my God this is one of THE best books i have ever read i am not even exaggerating and i was obsessed with Peeta while i read it. he's my favorite! i can't wait till september 1 when the second one, Catching Fire comes out!
just borrowed this book, which has been receiving much praise, from my school, and read it twice in one sitting, and i usually don't even read much. write the sequel. direct the movie. this book is AMAZING!
Wow. Finished it last night! I'm blown away. I really like the way Collins develop the characters. Katniss & Gable, tough yet likable and admirable. Peeta, kind yet strong. I love how she managed the "romantic" aspect of it ... Survival is the theme of this book and nothing outshines that. Also, she kept it really impartial for us readers. I completely understand why would Katniss feel inexplicably connected by the two guys in different, yet similar ways. I'm just as confused.
It sucks that I missed the BlogTV discussion. Boo!
One of the things I love about this book is how it touched the theme of desensitization. Though the plot gives us an example of an extreme situation, like you said, it give us the opportunity to be introspective about it. I mean, I think we could draw parallels to our current society as it is now. It's really mind blowing.
I finished it last night at like, 4 am. And now I'm obsessing over it, obviously, because I'm looking up YouTube videos on it. xD
I can.not. wait until September for the next book! I think I read this faster than HP, too. I read the first three Twilights pretty fast, too, but I liked the characters and the plot more in this book.
I finished the book when my family was driving to disney world (wich was a 3 hour drive), when we got to the hotel and we had to get to out I was like "Crap, I gotta stop reading" and I took the book into the park with me. At the end of the day we were waiting for the fire works and even with my reading light my parrents were like "stop it! There's not enough light! you'll hurt you eyes" and sure enough the drive back was me reading that book until I was done
I have now read this book and I did in 7 hours and I was like at the end of the book and I thought Melissa was right it fantastic I want the next one is it out yet?
Thanks for letting me know about all of these really great books. I am in the middle of reading 19 Katherines which is AWSOME! Anyways, as I was listening to this vlog you reminided me about another book I read a few years ago. Its called 24/7 by Jim Brown and its also an extreme take on reality tv...I sat down and I finished the ENTIRE book in ONE sitting! And then spent a MONTH thinking of it! Its a great book I recomend to any avid reader. Keep up the great work!
Agree it is a crazy fast read and much better than Graceling (which also came out last year and it has been compared to extensively) in my opinion. I can't wait for the next one.
Katniss kind of annoyed me at times, though I like her overall. She's a good person, who cares about other people. She's just doesn't read people well, which is frustrating as a reader. Poor Peeta.
How weird, I just read the Hunger Games and I've been searching all the stores for Paper Towns for a while now. (None of them have it though. Suckish.)
Is this like a chick book? Because it sounds interesting but I don't want to read it if it is a book girls read or if the main theme is romance and junk like that.
It's really not at all a chick book, the heroine doesn't like the romance stuff either and as we are following her it's not the main theme. The main theme is survival.

oh wow Melissa this book sounds fab I am going to have to go to the book shop and get it hoping to see you on blog TV tonight I think that be about 11 pm my time (uk) but yay I be there
so I'm just about finishing The Great Gatsby and now I have another book I want to read! haha! thanks for the recommendation Mel! I'm ordering my copy RIGHT NOW :D
My teacher he spent a cuple hours reading. He finished 1 and 2.
