  • I saw them play a week before the crash in Statesboro. Steve was great and added so much to a group that needed new blood. This Okie could play. God Bless.

  • nobody can lie, this is it! "When I need a lover, I dont need a buddy""!!!

  • Steve Gaines would have done to Skynyrd what Tommy Shaw did to Styx and damn throw in a Stevie Ray Vaughn solo on a live LP...OMG music heaven...

  • Why the fuck doesnt it play on moble

  • RIP, you can replace the players but not the sound or the soul of the the band.

    Fly high Free Bird..........

  • All true..and the pie too!....

  • Just cause I'm alive, that don't mean I'm makin a livin... Best Skynrd lyrics EVER!!!

  • stevie gaines was a breathe of fresh air for the band. he put alot of energy out enough to recharge the bands batterys. he came along precisely at the right time and they hired him cause he was as good as they were. there were plenty of pickers for them to choose from but he was what they were looking for

  • just cause im alive, it dont mean im making a livin!

  • Less than two years after the plane crash, the Gaines' mother, Cassie LaRue Gaines, was killed in an automobile accident near the cemetery where Steve and Cassie were buried. She was buried near her children....(Wiki)

  • This is what good music is "Aint no Good Life"

  • i think had the events of october 21st 1977 happened gaineses rep would have grown to rival claptons

  • God Bless the souls of Steve and Cassie Gaines. May the Great Spirt always watch over their children and other family members.

    Vaya Con Dios .

  • Ronnie was right when he said that someday Skynyrd would be in Steve Gaines' shadow. Skynyrd is great but Steve Gaines took them to the next level. One can only imagine what would have been. I can't even decide what I like better...his voice or his guitar playing. Both are stellar.

  • ronnie just layed back on this song and enjoyed his beer and cigrette

  • awesome..doesn't get much better than some Skynyrd

  • badass album!

  • wow SPOOKY he sang "this aint no good life" and then Left!

  • @youtellmegod I agree. And before that Ronnie sang, "I'm leaving this game one step a head of you." And he left too. Weird how it seems some artist have a uncanny ability to write about their own departures from this world.

  • man i love Skynyrd but Steve Gaines could have went solo and made it on his own suck a great guitar player and singer

  • @matmcghee True..

but his joined one of the best bands EVER..!!!! if only they could have put out a couple more records after Street Survivors... WOW.. think about it... those harmonies with RVZ and Steve... damn shame on the hands God has dealt some people in life..!!!

  • @kb7010 you got that right!! lol alot of bands begin to fade away or reach a peak by then Skynyrd was just reaching a whole new level of greatness when that damn plane crash ruined it all

  • He was a Southern poet. period

  • @BarJo3515 yea.. kinda midwestern being from oklahoma and all, but still great he was

  • Baby i need folding money

  • Well I want a lover. I don't need no buddy.

  • Just because Im alive...dont mean Im livin

  • God must love guitarists, cause he takes them back home once they learn their licks. God bless Steve Gaines!

  • Damn Steve Knew how to play the blues . Note for Note this man was a genius. Such a tragedy how they had to leave us so soon .

  • My god he was good! Man, can you imagine how big a guitar giant and singer he would have become? He makes them strings smoke!

  • where'd that sketch come from??

    not too bad.. : )

  • Yeh! he sounds like he was raised in a saloon in the wild west....This song struts the nuts!....

  • Did anybody else notice how great the keys sound on this song? R.I.P. Billy

  • He definitly was! But id like whip cream so more like chocolate sauce!lol

  • he was the whip cream and the cherries !

  • Stevie was good but damn, look what they accomplished before Stevie became a fixture. You need all the ingredients to make a good pie, and I love PIE!

  • this was their best album and they finally had all the pieces to the puzzle their best stuff was yet to come life just had another plan for them

  • @countblah3508 Yep dude sadly that is dead on.

  • @countblah3508 damm right/from australia

  • @jscoolcrw NO, Steve was GREAT!!! Skynrd went from being a 3 chord repititious band, to basically a jazz ensemble. Listen to all of the breaks and accents in Street Survivors that NO other Skynrd record EVER had!! Steve was good......sheesh!

  • @marcusisbell I agree...Steve Gaines was moving this band in a slightly different direction musically...getting to the southern blues with the jazz flair...it is daunting to imagine where this would have lead...sad

  • @jscoolcrw .Damn straight!!

  • i agree 100 and 2%.no disrespect to g. rossington & mr. collins.

  • I heard that gary and allen were threatened by him since his guitar skills were next level. That dude can play.

  • This song really makes me wonder what could have been if only the plane didn't crash. Steve was, in my opinion, easily the best musician Skynyrd had.

  • I was thinking the same thing. Steve Gaines was a great musician..

  • Steve Gaines at his best!
