  • I don't use Ipods. have no desire for one. LPs for listening at home and Tape or CD for portable all the way! hah thought I recognized that language right away, I speak some German :D

  • The great thing about it is: there is pretty less crappy-music for those record-players - unlike the modern media...

  • Who needs today mp3 players, iTunes and iPod? Record player and music chests are so much nicer. I have my Hitachi Direct Drive Turntable HT-355 now 31 years since, he still runs very well and I love him endlessly. By the way, great Polydor record of the James Brothers, I have often heard as a child. Greetings from Germany.

  • its magic lol both of record players are manuel and they are newer one is 70's and one is current

  • just got my first record player today

  • awesome so old, and so fine its as thick as a dime :).

  • Owning a record player was such a personal thing at whatever age which is why vinyl will rule forever

  • haha german XD!

  • Records are awesome. Who needs cds and ipods?

  • model*****

  • my grand mother had one like that but it was black and i dont know what brand or modle it was

  • OUCH!!! Looks a bit rough... Music is hilarious (let's all do the twist). What language is that in? Some Slavic tongue, I'm sure. And where and when did you acquire this gem?

  • @49kasey

    No Slavic....it´s German!

XD XD XD XD XD XD

  • ow wow..this is so cool :-)

  • lol

  • Uh u know the iPod touch does more things

  • record looks kinda warped? anyone agree?

  • @computergeek8571 Some are produced with some degree of bending, its more common for it to happen over time with some records due to different densities of vinyl through the record. It happens, but meh!

  • love that turntable, yours is in good condition...i have a dual 506, what needle should i use? do i need to place the felt cushion when play the record?...thanks

  • It is nice to hear a record again. AHHHH the memories

  • How big is the platter? looks like it cant fit a 33 on it.

  • I like my ipod and a record player...ipod is great for travelling....records are great fun also...hey it's all music

  • If the turntables was made now it would last mabe 10 years. stuff was made some much better back then.

  • 78man is no longer on here-wonder if they ever did another account...

  • Someone spent a lot of money on a record player in 1957.

  • well by now this turntable is 53 years old. WOW! It runs perfectly.

Looks like it has 2 motors, 1 for moving the tone arm and 1 for spinning the platter. Is that right?

    I love it!

  • No,there's only ONE motor under the turntable.

But there's a rubber wheel which changes between pick-up arm mechanism and turntable drive,so the motor can move both :-)

  • @MrDeanMartin very interesting how it works like a precise time piece. I also see how the needle stays muted until after it drops onto the record. Very high quality unit. I can see how Dual has always been known for making quality turntables.

  • german version of WHEN by the Kalin Twins in the US.

  • my record player from 1980 does even move the needle automaticly mine is manual

  • Mine from 1951 does on rare occasions, but it usually ceases-up if I try, so I usually set the needle manually.

  • Love it!

  • No kidding! We live in the era of fads, corporate policing, and planned obsolescence. It all sounds illegal and unfair, but now it's practically illegal not to do those things :(

If anyone wants to boycott the modern world, just buy everything at thrift stores. This plan empties corporate pockets by lack of demand and all proceeds go to charity! Did I mention it's 100% legal?

  • I already do. In fact, the last new electronic device I have bought is a Wii, and that was 2 years ago. My telly is from 1980, my stereo is from 1951, soon my car will be from 1958 or 1959 (I plan to buy an Edsel), and all of my music is '40s through '80s.

  • Plus my PC is from 1999, and running Windows 98 SE.

Everything I own is old, and I love it.

  • Vinyl will always be more respected than mp3. Long live Vinyl! You probably won't see any working iPods or mp3 players in 50 years time. But I think you should find a 45 rpm spindle adapter to center those records better as the speed sounded a little unstable.

  • Like a piano in the home, a record player adds a special sense of class in the house. :)

  • love this changer and this version of when

  • Wenn Du sagst Ok

komme ich bei Regen und Schnee!!!!!!!!

    Wundervoll!!!!!

  • enjoyed the old machines - thanks for posting

  • I like the old stuff and have a collection of 45s and 78s and a couple of old record players and reel to reel tape recorders.

  • come on u guys don't knock on new technology , old stuff is good but nos as good as new digital...and i am an 66 yrs old

so give modern tech a chance......old man tony

  • I had i good record player like that, I listened to ¨¨London Calling´´ and ´´Never Mind the Bollocks, here´s the Sex Pistols´´ on mine

  • I listen to KISS, Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, and Quiet Riot on my vintage '40s console radio/phono. Surprisingly, the phono works perfectly (it was never bound, nor were the 2 needles [one for 78s, one for 45s and 33s] damaged), and it contains the original oil capacitors. I use it every day, and I'm never going to buy an iPod. Digital music and transistors can burn in hell.

  • Amen!

  • 27,000 views ...wow!

  • gahahhah i want one of these!

gotta go see if my parents still have theirs...:)

  • That engine is more better than a ipod.

    5 points.

  • I just love your record player!!!!!! =D=P=)

  • That engine is so special!!!!!

  • sehr schön!

und vorallem der nette cover song hehe.

  • Man, you can hear that needle cutting that vinyl.

    Release some tension on that.

  • There isn´t a counterweight that you can adjust in this tonearm. Anyway, the noise at the first spins of the disc doesn´t come from the pick-up electronics, because this machines had a mute fuction that silences the sound from the capsule when it is at the edge of the disc assuming that the needle isn´t yet properly inserted. What we hear in those first seconds is the noise phisically produced by the needle tracking the worn groove.

  • Well done mate!!! Keep these turntables alive!!! :-D :-D :-D

  • cool youre playing on a 45

  • shoo be do wa

  • hello I have to tell you that this turntable can except a magnetic cartridge with ease and it tracks like the 600 dollar linn sondex I have and the table is built like my garad 350 and boy too bad they stopped making stuff of this quality keep bringing the great videos

  • It looks so modern for saying it's 51 years old.

  • i have bang e olufsen

  • I have a stereo, it has a recdord player, a radio, a dual casette deck, and a 3 cd cd player

  • how much did that cost and where can I get one?

  • it costed 100 and some dollars, and I ordered it through Sears

  • Ja, ja die Oldtimer! :-) Toll, wenn so ein Schneewittchen aus dem Schlaf geholt wird. Danke für diese wunderschöne Geschichte!

  • Your record player is awesome. =3 Sorry, I'm pretty new to the fandom. What needle are you using for it?

  • Thanks :) The needle is a Dual DN 32 replacement stylus with 2 spherical sapphires, suitable for Dual CDS cartridges.

  • @Animatronixx how would you figure out what sort of needle you need to replace it? I myself have some sort of sears record player from around 1960 - 1980 with a dieing needle, or would you recommend a new one, it is used just to play records and record them to digital.

  • At the end of the 50s there were 2 german cover versions of the Kalin twins classical, one from the James Brothers and one from the Nilsen Brothers on the flip side of their german version of the Kingston Trio's "Tom Dooley". The Kalin Twins' original is the very best, but the two german versions are very good.

  • That sound, oh me oh my, that sound is fantastic! What a delightful player.

  • nice player, look after it well

  • omg peter kraus, his born 1939 but when you see pictures from him nowadays he still looks fresh and on fire. hes the german elvis presley i think.

  • Dude, you're thinking of Peter Krause not Peter Kraus. One's from Munich, and the other From Minnesota. One's 42 and the other 69. Heh.

  • Im lacking a good collaro and a dual like this. The two neates players ever! Ok, My PHilco does an odd 'lean in', but nothing as cool as the dual or collaro. Nice vid.

  • Congratulations, Catharina i liked.

  • I bet you mean Caterina Valente. if so, I´m with you. ;)

  • Yes, it is nice, isn´t it?

  • hello and thank you very much I find that this table works better then my 600 dollar table as far as no rumble and noise or feedback . too bad they dont make this quality today

  • hello I was on my way home from work 2 days ago and found this turntable in the street and I have to say that it is built like a tank and for its age . everything worked fine and I added it to my collection. it is very reliable and quiet. I was wondering if you could tell me where I can get a 45 rpm stacker and manual single play spindle for this unit. thanks and keep the great videos coming

  • Hello and congratulations! I hope there´s nobody seeking for his turntable that he just had parked on the street for 30 minutes. :D

Regarding parts for these machines: Please g00gle for "dual forum" and you will find a great (German) messageboard on these machines. I bet there´s somebody who can help you.

  • thats so cool

  • You should put the title of the song in the tag list!

  • Thanks for uploading!

I love this german version so much. ;-)

  • What's the English version?

  • When by The Kalin Twins.

  • thats crazy awesome. Where would one search for such classic?

  • I found mine on ebay, where lots of them are offered (at least here in Germany). ;)

  • still istening to this, its brilliant.

  • i prefer an ipod lol no dissrespect but this is dull, atleast get a cassette player lol

  • I have been searching for a good piece of equipment here in the UK like this for ages!!!!!

  • hah. die musik :D

    ^^

  • the thing that is placed on the disc... do they have meatel pointy thingy? will it demage it?

  • OLD OLD School. I Dig that stuff

  • Hi! and thanks for posting this video. I have seen many pictures of this changer, but have never seen one in acton. Its sooo cool and I love that tune. When by the Kalin Twins is the first record I ever remember playing as a child. We had a 1958 Philips Radiogram. Can you tell me who sings that version of When? I would like to try and find a copy.

  • Hello and thank you for your comment! This is the German version "Wenn" by the James Brothers (members: Peter Kraus and Joerg Maria Berg), released in 1958 as well as the Kalin Twins´ song.

  • I LUV LUV LUV 50's to 70's songs, luv luv luv this song When (but in english, I prefer Showaddywaddy's version than Kalin), this german version is so cool!!

but... I LUV ipod too, 'cause thanks to that cute little thing I'm able to watch youtube videos AND hear 50's~70's music everytime and anywhere I want. I don't think I can catch my everyday train with a Dual Player on my pocket heheheeee XD XD XD

Ok, ok, just kidding, your Dual is beautiful!! XD XD XD

  • Glad you liked it. :) I was also kidding. Of course, the Dual is not a real alternative to an ipod, but I still prefer it, due to the atmosphere, that a tiny little thing with earphones will never be able to radiate. ;)

  • it would be nice if the ipod could scan for the edge of the record and drop it there :P those kind of record players are cool. you should upload more videos of this record player

  • how big would a Record walkman be XD

  • There was a portable 33 1/3 player like boombox with a turntable on its side, it was HUGE.

BTW Bowtome09 Stereo was available from the 1950's not the 1970's.

"In 1958 the first stereo two-channel records were issued -- by Audio Fidelity in the USA and Pye in Britain," Wikipedia

  • o thx

  • That is better than any ipod!

  • I grew up with this recordplayer..it's a DUAL (1959ish). It has a cool way to sense the start of a record in changer mode by use of a roller wheel near the cartridge in the head. The pickup starts to land near the center of the record, then rolls outward until the wheel drops off the edge of the record which causes it to retract into the shell and thereby dropping the needle in the starting grooves of any size record!

  • Nice operating turntable, quality is very good. Would you by any chances have the record Radio Activity?

  • You mean Radio Activity by Kraftwerk? Of course I have it, for I´m a huge Kraftwerk fan. But sorrily just on CD, not as a record...

  • YES,Terrific! I had the vinyl and played it all the time, it was quite different. Some of my friends would joke that it was my Eighth Grade German record.

  • My dad and I are Like Jimi Hendrix, My dad Owns the Are You Experienced CD, but he once had the 33 RPM LP, he told me the quality on the CD is nice but besides the sounds of crackles from the LP Version(Which was edited out on The CD Version) it sounded cleaner and the CD Version sounded distorted because it tried to edit out certain tones. Which is Why Vintage Music is best played on Vintage equiptment(Excluding 8-tracks and Tapes for CDs sound better than them)

  • i mean WE LIKE JIMI HENDRIX not ARE LIKE JIMI HENDRIX

  • Does the record player have an output is it stereo or mono?

  • It´s a mono output.

  • Stereo? In 1957? It was all Hi-Fi Mono, which meant High Fidelity Monaural (mon meaning "one" aural meaning "sound" or "hearing") I believe that "Stereo" was still in the development stages back then. As a very small child in 1968, we had a HiFi.

  • mono, Stereo did not come out till the 70s and even still IT WAS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE

  • Fine!!!

  • I know you said this is a record player, but it looks a lot like a turntable in a console because I don't see a lid to your record player. At any rate that is a SWEET player. Thanks!! =)

  • Thank you :) Yes, it lodges in a radiogram with its neighbour being an Emud radio, built in 1957 as well.

  • this is absolutely amazing, the backing sounds just like the kalin twins. Love to know the translation though. Love the record player too. THANKYOU

  • To hell with digital sound! Nothing better than analog sound, be it vinyl or open reels :D

  • Cool record player!

  • I remember this from the fifties - first time I've heard the German version! Es freut mich sehr!

  • Nice player. Not high end, but sounds pretty neat. Built in cabinet speaker?

I'm glad there's better music available on records :). Buy several brand new (and loads of second hand) records every month. Vinyl lives man!

  • i totally agree! i would rather have a vynil record player than an i-pod ANY DAY!!!

  • What label was this recorded on?

  • I'm sure it's Polydor:|I've got another by Peter Kraus and the label looks jsut the same

  • Oh, sorry, I forgot to reply. You´re right, it´s Polydor. :)

  • dude i just bought the kalin twins record off ebay i want that version too but itz too rare to find

  • that is the coolest record player ive ever seen

  • I like the size scanning function. My Magnavox reaches up to the stack at the top to find the size, then it drops and plays it. Those old changers are so neat.

  • You defeitely need to resolder the sound wirings... as they suffer from a ´groundleak´.

  • Nice! only 1003-1004-1005 and 1006 Dual scans the top record to find the edge. It never fails!! Enjoy it.

  • mein liebling!!

mittlerweile habe ich 4 von ihnen...kult!

  • It's not the turntable that wobbles - it's only the vinyl that's been through the heat a bit. A) None of the present CD players will work in 50 years from now. B) Besides the meditative effect a cruising disc can achieve - this is a good example for new bands for the making of low budget videos!

  • The platter of my soundesign turntable reciver wobbles somehat, but when you put the mat on it sounds fine.
