Stunning - Classic - Wow - this Northern soul boy loves this - gotta be one of my all time favorite dance tracks - just imagine you've been on the floor for several hours, your legs are cramping up, you've no more sweat to give, it's nearly time to leave and then 'bang' - this track comes on, the hair on your body tingles, your blood flows and you find one more great dance, explosive spins, fast feet, kicks and flicks & above all, massive amounts of passion - that's Northern Soul - thanks Dusty
This was a pretty fair hit in the US, but it totally tanked in the UK until the Northern Soul scene. I've always loved Dusty (I'm not exactly sure why), and I had this total crush on a professor ("Dr. Mills") I had who totally reminded me of her. I used to go home from uni every day and play "Losing You" and think about Dr Mills... Go figure!
PRIOR to Wigan Casino when what many NOW call NORTHERN SOUL, the music we danced to wasn't commercial and so original DJ'S would have been very dubious way back then of playing Dusty. She was an extremely popular artist remember. However this is nearest, and so much nearer than soo much of crap people now post claiming to be N S .. Dusty was incredibly talented and perhaps our loss way back then. THIS TRACK IS CLASS AND 5000*
what a Classic this is !! Dusty!!! you were so beautiful and what a voice you had !!.I will never forget you .rip... and hope you are watching YouTube cos your fans are missing you... and reliving the 60s'..and all your great music !!!xxx thank you from a BIG fan..Lyndloo...
Good to hear! I heard a clip from a live performance Dusty gave in the '60s and she introduced "What's It Gonna Be" as a non-hit but still a tune she liked to perform.
Another US-only single was "Wishin' and Hopin'". Hard to believe one of her signature tunes was not released as a single in her homeland. Same goes for "To Sir With Love", Lulu's giant US hit from 1967.
"Wishin' and Hopin'" was never intended to be a single - U.S. DJs pushed for its single release. It probably wasn't released in the UK cos it had already appeared on an album. The Merseybeats had the UK hit with it.
Yes. In the UK, albums were separate entities from singles. "Wishin' and Hopin'" may not have been a single in the UK, but it was a popular number because she did perform it on "Ready Steady Go" with Martha and The Vandellas.

She could turn her hand to absolutely anything! Rock, dance pop, soul, RnB, ballads, jazz, broadway....Anything, and absolutely smash it.
Even in the 60's I don't think the public quite recognised the versatility and interpretive excellence of her talent. She really was one of a kind!
Thank you for your music Dusty. We miss you!

"What's it gonna be" was not released in the UK as a single. It was released in the USA and was a hit.

Another US only single (A-side) was "The Look of Love". What were they thinking in the UK, issuing it as a B-side?
