@xXgkhnarbXx I had an inkling, but some Metalocalypse fans might not even know that much. Let's not try to make ourselves look smart at their expense, shall we?
I've been playing guitar for a few years now and I am just beginning to have an "ear" for music but I can hear the mistakes he was talking about but shit happens, especially when your playing metal the man is a great guitarist and I love watching him jam.
Do the world a favor and kill yourself, this man is a musical genius, his show is epic and his album is the best selling death metal record in the world. What are your accomplishments?
Another great technique is to trigger the snare and kick then run sample dubs over them. Extreme EQ the samples to fit in the mix better. Sometimes a snare or a kick by itself tends to get lost and this helps bring it forward cleanly while keeping it consistent with little need for compression. This also allows you to blend tones too.
I generally end up with a pretty standard kick/snare then the dubs are rolled off past 500hz, nasty freqs cut, and around 2k+ boosted. It adds a lot of body.
does he sound like charles ofdenson? i just realized that at the start of the video they kind of sounded the same, i know there played by the same people but maby charlese is brendon's regular talking voice
when he sings live its pretty close to nathan if not exactly the same. i dont think it goes through too much processing if not just the normal standard
Actually he just makes his voice sound throaty. He doesn't need any effects or processing. Type in Brendon Small recording home studio. He shows you how to do it. Even I can do it.
There's a vid of him just riffing Nathan's voice, it comes really easy to him. He just... does it. On one of the videos about his home studio, check it out, it's AWESOME
oh yeh lol, i hear the sweeps now, i was tapping my finger on the desk lol, also the drums in that harmony intro were a little bit too soon, not by much tho
Yeah, I bet it's nice to be so good that when your drums are off by a 1/10th of a measure and your sweeps are barely off tune it's a mistake worth noting.
1/10th of 4/4 at 180bpm is barely noticeable to most people though, a lot of live bands will end up off by half a beat by the time they finish a song and no one notices at all, especially in metal what with the high bpms and all.
@Lavatain I agree. Small has an incredible knack for metal, especially considering he started out as a small time comedian, wouldn't think the two would mesh so well on Metalocalypse but they do. Also you can hear where the bass line dips a little where his double bass kick is getting throwing off click.
He is actually kicking ass WHILE chewing bubblegum! :D

So when we're listening to Pickles the Drummer play, we're actually listening to Gene Hoglan, huh?

He sounds a lot different than I would have thought. His singing voice is so low, but his real voice is pretty normal.
FollowHim4Eternity 2 years ago
i imagine it goes through a bit of processing before the final mix so he sounds like nathan explosion and not brendon small

Well he sure as hell sounds like Nathan Explosion when he sings and impersonates him live. No processing.

well 1/10th is quite obvious, coz thats slightly faster than half a beat, but i guess we should carry on with music degrees and get to his level XD

Yeah, I would imagine as a drum student it would be hard for him to not be an inspiration.
