  • haha here in germany all ppl drive manual cars....EVEN the GIRLS! The reason is simple: with manual transmission u chose when and why the gear has to be switched, so u can drive much more sporty, use the engine as brake (doesnt perish ur brakes) or simply shift earlyer than a automatic would do to keep ur car quied and dont wake up the kids XDm its cheaper and it saves gas! and last but not least: its not as boring as a automatic!

  • its not 'pretty' difficult from the left side because half the world sits on the right side :P

  • @USAFPilot623 it's 'pretty' difficult if you're not from that half of the world.

  • OK who remembers the column shift ("three on a tree")?

  • Wtf is she doing. Smh . This is really gettin me mad.

  • Try driving a manual jeep wrangler, rubbish clutch,.tranny and no tourqe what so ever

  • Now put it in second.

    Put it in second.......

    Nooo, in second....

    Yup That's second..

    Epic!

  • Car looks kinda like my girl's Lexus ES 300.

  • nah! not good at all

  • Im looking forward to the other 100 parts!

  • opel vectra?

  • @weebl15 yep... car was scrapped almost 2 years ago...

  • @basvortex We still have an opel vecta A from 1989 :D still working good

  • @weebl15 yep... car was scrapped almost 2 years ago...

  • Are you Chistopher Walken's German cousin?

  • hhahah this guy would be driving and opel...

  • nice, now im ready to buy the 1999 Eclipse

  • @FalkonX3000 lmao

  • @2010ZOLRAC2010 what? no I was about to get the Eclipse till my friend stop me. I end up with a beautiful black 1999 Acura CL V6 with 3.0L instead. Thank god i waited.

  • What you need is somebody like Jason Stateham to teach driving lessons LOL! This guy almost looks like him, he would do it like an action sequence, RULE #1, put the car in first~! Rule #2...don't ask dumb questions LOL!

  • Dude you are hella funny.......

  • lol the instructor said "im not getting in.. think i should get in??" .. "YES!"

  • haha tats funny bt also useful

  • so yeah guys how are you doing eh???ok i hope to see you in the olimpics

  • anyone have AIM?

  • PM me if you got questions...

  • i doooo

  • LOL.

    Ich bin Amerikaner...

    ich bin enttäuscht... total enttäuscht...

I assume they are American. Could be Canadians...

Either way, why are they in Germany at a Fahrschule?

  • Glad it amused you.

Disappointed, huh? Sounds like a personal problem, we had fun with it...

    The girls are American.

They are not at a driving school in Germany, the truck in the background was a coincidence.

  • So a German from Germany with a truck that says Fahrschule with a bus that says "Teeladen." Coincidence. :P No, you are in Paraguay.

I just feel bad each time the rest of the world insults Americans for driving automatic. It is true. Americans are lazy drivers. Either we need the extra hand to talk on the cellphone or we need the extra hand to chomp down on some food. -_-

Next you need to teach her heel-n-toe, downshifting, and douple-clutching!! :D

  • I honestly want a manual. D: I got stuck with a VW Jetta with a tiptronic. I love tiptronic, but the clutch is what makes it fun! D:

I get tired synchro issues in the tiptronics where I downshift and get lurching and lunging. I need my clutch. The car knows better... I know best. :P

Really though, nothing beats driving manual.

Except: traffic, steep hills, and dangerous conditions where your biggest concern isn't the gearbox.

    I have a DSG double-clutch auto... so I win and lose :P

  • and the building that says something like "Schütsenheim Döhenhaug" in the background too ? :P coincidence?

  • Haha, actually it says "Schützenheim Höhenhaus" (Marksmen's Club of Hoehenhaus)

  • its not that hard! first time driving a stick shift was when i was 11 in my grandad's volvo, haven't driven anything in my life before, and didn't stall once, though took some practice to get the good rev before releasing the clutch

  • Its not hard on the left side, wat do we do in Australia anyway =) Left-side stick.

  • god she gotta take things more serious to learn, id never fool around like this when learning how to drive a manual car..

  • Well, this was all in good fun, nothing THAT serious...and she'll probably need a refreshing course before driving a manual on the road...

  • i'm going to take driving lesson too. i watched a lot of driving tutorials. thanx for the video. it helps too.

  • i thought vectras dont have 6 gears

  • it's been 2 years and a half , she should be driving smoothly

  • The bus driver digging for gold hahahahaha

  • thanks guys , i had a problem with the break , and now you solved it , thanks a lot, i'm ready to drive a stick shift , ;)

  • that car sounds horrible

  • I agree, a Porsche Carrera GT sounds much better... You gotta keep in mind that the Vectra was built with different goals in mind (family car, gas mileage etc.)

This one is gone to car heaven now anyways...

  • what car do u have now?

  • looks like a cougar

  • he said that this car is in heaven, so im just wondering what car they have now..

  • Currently car-less due to a move...

  • ahh i see, i wanna car anytime soon :)

    cheap and good

  • seriously how do european people shift left handed, it seems so unnatural?

  • Actually the gear shifter itsn't mirrored like most people think. The gear pattern it's the same. The only strange thing in the beginning it's that the first gear it's far away from you and the fifth is close. Also the pedal order it's the same, but in the right side of the car.

  • well not all european , just Britan

  • Stacy...READ the numbers on the stick...

  • now get in da chopper

  • my brother was worse than she was, when he was trying to learn. he would do a burn out one time, and the next he would stall it out.

  • good vid man

  • Why do you speak english if its set in germany?

  • The girls in the video are American...

  • Mh I guess you are German then.

  • omfg i learned this in 20sek and i never tried to drive before..

  • I think your video is great! I am teaching my nephew Peyton, how to drive manual. Actually had him out driving manual for the first time today. I think he won't feel so bad about how he did after watching this video

  • you think thats first? i dont know~

    LOL?...

  • Dude, the shift pattern is on the top of the knob...

  • @Whack78 that's what she said....

  • Funny video :-) and I love the German accent ah ah funny :-) Did you notice the Dupont Fahrschule in the background ;-) :-) I love German and Germany ;-)

  • what a bad teacher... he should tell her, not let her guess. And not good to learn while sitting on the wrong seat.

  • well, I am not actually a driving teacher - and we were trying to have some fun with it! If you watch further on and part 2, she actually gets to drive and does a good job...

  • i am happy that i learned on my 72 volkswagon, my dad said its probably the hardest clutch he's ever used (other then when he drove an 18 wheeler with 18 or 19 gears. and yes to all who down know, you really should press the gas while releasing the clutch, escpeically in my car, in wnt go if you dont pres the gas at al.

  • LOL very intresting :)))

  • This is very helpfule lol cause im tryin to master manule nd thankz too dis it myt give me alot of tips:D

  • Why does everyone say that you need to press the gas pedal when leting go of the clutch. I can get the car rolling by just letting off the clutch slowly. Does anyone know why most people say you need to press gas at the same time as engaging the clutch.

  • Some people probably stall the car by releasing the clutch too much without pressing enough gas. Some cars will roll when you release the clutch with no gas while others will stall.

  • any car will go its a matter of how slow you do it.. unless its a stage 2 clutch or other high performance clutch

  • Because it´s true! Your car is weird.

  • No if u release it slow enough it will roll.

  • They say so, because giving it some gas will give you a quicker, smoother start.

  • And its because my car is a diesel so it doesnt stall as easily, with a gasoline burning car it will stall unless you apply some gas.

  • Completely dependent upon the vehicle and the clutch. If the vehicle has a low idle RPM, the torque output will be very low and you will burn more of the clutch material off by letting it out slower. By bringing the RPM up when letting the clutch out, you get the transmission input and engine output turning the same RPM sooner. Saves the clutch.

  • because when u let the clutch off slowly without gas the car will roll slowly and u will piss off the drivers behind you, whereas if u apply gas u can accelerate properly

  • i didn't talk about place, but %100 girls are american look at this ! she have no idea about first gear, oh maybe she is right it is hard to estimate first gear which you can read number "one" on it. lool

  • ha that was good

"it difficut from the left side" thats why rnglish drivers are the best :P

    good vid

  • I wonder if most of the English drivers can drive when the wheel is on the left... it takes time to get the hang of it

  • I have to learn manual with the stirring wheel on the right side (like in the UK), and I am right-handed. Talk about difficult there ... I found driving on the left side to be much easier compared to my first experience of driving manual.

  • its not that hard...

i came from Australia to the States, and i got the hang of it within a hour.

but the first hour or so is pretty hard, you always tend to go to the opposite side

  • She was doing good except for when she was stopping. Brake AND clutch have to be pushed. haha I taught my friend how to drive a stick and he kept doing the same thing.

  • in a RHD u hav 2 shift with ur left hand!

    americans and manuals don't work!

  • european cars = reverse top left

any other car = reverse bottom right

in any car you must push down to shift to reverse. you should post what kind of car it is (to avoid confusion)

  • this is totally wrong.

almost every car manufacturer has its own positioning of the reverse gear. vw alone has 3 alternative ways of putting it in.

@basvortex, where did you take this movie? it seems like you all speak perfectly english but the truck in the background says Fahrschule DuPont which is german so i am kinda confused ;)

  • The movie was filmed in Germany, althought the truck in the background was just there by coincidence...The girls are American, Chris and myself are German...

  • it is so clearly girls are american lol

  • its probably in Europe...look at the license plate

  • notice where the steering wheel is located.lol

  • I would guess they are American exchange students in Germany (I can see the "D" sticker)

  • negative, i have a ford fiesta (EUROPEAN) and it has reverse at the bottom right, so does diat uno and palio, and alfa romeo 146

  • ive seen some with reverse at top left.(trucks like Ram 3500)

  • Oh my God, it's an Opel Vectra! :O

  • How u gon say u dunno where 1st gear is when it's written on the top of the shifter !! and it's so difficult for her to shift it because shes holding it from under the shifter tip instead of cover palm like shes supposed to

  • yeah, true... She got the hang of it pretty quickly though. The first try wasn't really fair either, cause you usually shift from the other side.

  • I learned to drive a stick-shift properly from the attendant at the lot where I used to park my car. He got tired of watching me lurch into the lot every morning. It's been 26 years since then, and I've never driven anything but sticks. Thanks a lot for not teaching me, DAD:-(

  • I made the mistake of trying to drive the last model produced of the Camero SS Edition. >_>

Lemme tell ya, it was one HELL of a rough ride. lmfao

  • I just bought a Mazda MX3 and my parents basically said go learn yourself and now I rock.

  • so hopeless :P (i've been driving a manual for about 4 hours) i'm starting to get the hang of it, ocassionally the gearstick doesnt go into place and gets stuck. :(

  • in europe its on the top left

  • in everywhere it's on top left ...

  • for jeeps, it's on the bottom right.

  • i had no idea there were talking about the reverse lol, i thought the first gear

the reverse in most cars it's on bottom right but the first gear is always on top left

  • oh haha, then you're right. sorry.

  • In Audi's, Volvo's, Some volkswagens, and some peugots Its top left, or bottom left. Some reuse the same gear slot with a lever to differentiate the two.

  • isn't reverse to the right and then down???maybe that's only for australian cars...

  • its a different transmission it depends on the car not the country

  • it depends of the model, or transmission actually. VWs have it next to first gear. It has to be pushed down to engage it to reverse, for safety reasons.

  • why didn't u just let her drive

  • If you watch the whole thing & part two, she gets to drive (and does a good job)...

  • yah i spoke to early, i would teach someone entirely when they're in the driving seat though
