until victory always "" no defeat imperialism is a united Latin America. Will never be defeated ""

  • Is this the final part? I thought that these documentaries were 60 minutes long.

  • this documentary sucks. its like watching a fucking editorial instead of a documentary

  • @aris205982 Youre not wrong. These mainstream TV documentaries are nothing more than soundtracks and a fancy collage of images overlaid with a bunch of slogans and aphorisms.

  • Long live Honorable Oliver Cromwell.

  • Is Schama the narrator? I'll probably find out but it sounds like him at the intro...

  • The Redcoats are coming!!!

  • America and England need a strong leader like Oliver Cromwell in this 2011. Strength & Piety my brothers, no more weak leaders like Obama & David Cameron.

  • @Zachw2007 it's not that Cameron is weak, its that he's not what any of us voted for and he's dismantling all the good points about England that we haven't either destroyed ourselves before him or had destroyed by the americans (:

  • @SailorTacos President Obama is weak and not a man of best quality. Obama doesn't even like our free republic.

  • strength and piety!

  • strength and piety!

  • For a ripping Norse/Saxon read, try Sigurd's Saga on YouTube!

  • love and peace from RobotRuss

  • I believe there is going to be a revolution very soon the way Cameron is going the fucking wanker.

  • There's an excellent Tuchman, "March of Folly," which chronicles diplomatic failures. One is the absolute failure of any Tories, and really of any Whigs other than Edmund Burke, to respond constructively to the tax crisis. But even in light of this, the rebellion was basically a northeastern affair of the commercial classes and the southern aristocracy, with French money, guns, ships and troops. Only 1/3 of the population was pro independence. Think of us as Nam with French as the Russians.

  • Riveting tale, chap.

  • Wow. British really clung to the idea of a monarchy, didn't they. Of course that was the only thing they had lived with for so long. How else could they live their lives if there was no "King" on the throne. I say this sincerely.

  • @vidviewer401 well people saw the king as an uncorruptible holder of power, not wielder of it. even in the american revolution, it wasnt actually king george that the colonists originally turned against, it was parliament

  • @billybob7ful So you're saying that back then the King had absolutely no decision making in Parliament what-so-ever? To say that they rebelled against their mother nation but had absolutely complete respect towards the king while doing so?... That doesn't quite make much sense to me.

  • @vidviewer401 actually they loved the king, they built statues for him. the idea of a tyrannical king is an idea that has originated after. read some history. the whole basis of their argument was that they were subjects of the king not of the parliament, therefore the london parliament had no jurisdiction in the colonies. They actually thought the king would side with them, they only became angry at king george when their petitions to him had failed

  • @billybob7ful Well regardless, before or after, they rebelled against said 'beloved' king. I mean you don't just rebel for the hell of it right?

  • I believe that there is a very large rivalry between British and American citizens, I as an American(and being part British as well) think that we are brothers and should have a little bit more respect for our mother England... I mean, it was over two hundred years ago. All these patriots talking about freedom and liberty need to remember that the United States had(and still has) a large sense of expansionism as of Britain in the eighteenth century...

  • @Alecanderification A large number of Americans are ignorant. Only the sophisticated ones with common sense now Great Britain as a great ally.

  • @tim32211 Agreed.

  • @Alecanderification

the "patriots" were white upper class slave owners who didnt want to pay their taxes...think about that one

  • @MilitantOldLady I do not believe my comment in any way agree or show support to what my ancestors did. I was only explaining how it's a bit hypocritical that the textbooks I grew up with in grade school portrayed the British as a greedy ,corrupt , expansionist superpower when we the Americans are now unfortunately. I am fully aware that the history I have been taught is quite biased.

  • @MilitantOldLady Exactly. It's high time this myth of honest farmers and little entrepreneurs being the movement for independence was shown up for the historical whitewash that it is.

  • @MilitantOldLady Did I ever say that they they were not?

  • @Alecanderification I'm still waiting for Canada to be annexed.

  • @Alecanderification merde my ancestors were from alsace..long live france! ANGLAIS..

  • @jukio01 if you blew up britain every single city in america with all its overweight people will be blown up to like popping balloons and america speaks englands language so pay some respect

  • The BBC is a state run propaganda mouthpiece for the British government. You can't trust their take on history.

  • Dear RealmEternal,

Thank you so much for putting this excellent documentary up for everybody.

Could you please, please tell me what the name of the wonderful short piece

of music from 6:12 onwards is in this episode??

i know it's John Harle who is the main composer for "The History of Britain [Soundtrack]" i have listened to the soundtrack, but as far as i

can discern, the piece from 6:12 onwards is not present.

Any feedback would be most welcomed!

  • Dude you can't compare The British Empire with Rome and the Mongols, it's just a retarder caomparison, brits formed their empire like 1500 years after rome with a lot more technology and population. I mean where was England when Rome ruled ALL the "Known" World, oh yes they were part of the Empire of Rome, and the only ones who resisted rome were the Scothish and the german tribes..

  • @davdua1991 So.. the Romans had no competition like Britain did the British Empire became the biggest empire in history even though the French, Ottoman, Spanish, Chinese, Dutch, Russian and Portugese Empires where all in the battle to sovereign lands and expand there empires

  • Why is England conceived as being Britain?

  • @MacMaraScott Mongol and Roman Empires were the largest, Britain was more successful regarding revolution (Industrial, Political)

  • @crucko1 Is that true? We ruled just over a 1/4 of the worlds landmass at one time or another.

  • @crucko1 The british empire was 33.7 million square km at it's largest, the Roman was 6.5 million square km. So it's over FIVE TIMES bigger. Mongol was 24 million at it's furthest extent, and was the 2nd largest in history after the british. 27% of the worlds population lived in the empire in 1922, and today 37% of the worlds population live in countries that were once part of the Empire. The area of 'British India' today has over 1.6 billion people by itself. Rome doesn't come close. Facts FTW.

  • @crucko1 I think you'll find that the British empire covered over a 1/4 of the world at its hight. Rightly or wrongly.

  • @MacMaraScott I was under the impression that you meant Britain is not the best country on earth today - but fair enough. I wouldn't say the Mongols were better than the British, the Roman v British is more debatable however.

  • @MacMaraScott I'd agree with Mummy. What country would you opine is?

  • @Asukapride I have noticed that East Asians seem to be more concerned about fashion than westerners. I don't know why that is, but I suspect it's because more East Asians by proportion live in metropolises while many westerners live in suburban communities. People in mega cities care more about fashion.

  • @RealmEternal true. suburbans are more family orientated too. lots of people in the city are either single or couple who dont have kids.

  • @RealmEternal - I think your argument is superficial. Westners, as you call them, are "pragmatic" rather than "socially compelled" to look in a way that they think is socially acceptable. You can say that East Asians are more easily "brain-washed" to walk, talk and dress in a certain way whereas the Westners are not.

Whether this is "good thing" or "bad thing" is a matter of personal opinion, I imagine.

  • @RealmEternal So you don't know about all those East Asian Chinese who run about in Shanghai in their pjs.

  • @RealmEternal 'I have noticed that East Asians seem to be more concerned about fashion than westerners' - it's because they're more superficial, herd-minded, and money-obsessed. It's the sign of a young insecure society trying to copy a foreign culture (europe/US). British people really don't give a fuck, they wear what's comfortable.

  • @RealmEternal ya, that could very well be the reason. in new york for instance, people dress very nice too

  • @RealmEternal i think you`re, since in Japan, for example, as you move away from Tokyo towards smaller cities, you can see less and less fashionably dressed people getting on the train:))my friend used to be get so depressed at that:))

  • @nataliiiaf Why would your friend be depressed about less fashionable people on the train? I don't understand.

  • @RealmEternal uhm, she has an acute sense of (artificial) aestetics:)) she loves pretty thimngs around her and feels there isn`t enough of it in countryside..it depresses her that peopel don`t care what they put on...i, personally adore nature, so it doesn`t matter all that muhc to me, but well:))

  • @RealmEternal Mosty probably because he is a superficial jerk.

  • @RealmEternal its so intriguing to see culture clash on a youtube page

  • @nataliiiaf Hmm Strange!

  • @RealmEternal Do you know when this documentary was published by the BBC? Google it; however, the results weren't conclusive. I love the reference to Thomas Hobbes, takes me back to my political theory class in college at UTD. Greatness.

  • @Asukapride well i see some old jap women on a train in hastings yesterday and looked like a bunch of of old paddy feild workers I couldnt stop laughing at their slit eyes.lol

  • @patsyd80 I guess you felt bad with my british people`s pajama fashion comment, right? If so, I`m sorry....I didn`t have an intention to insult you......just wanted to know the reason.... I`m so sorry.

  • @Asukapride I'd like to know why tourists from Tokyo take photographs of EVERYTHING, and sometimes just stop in the middle of busy streets :p

  • Comment removed

  • @Asukapride pajamas are cooler, we're not used to the heat!! well not in England anyway lol

  • @Asukapride there are so many things that are more important than fashion!

  • @ItchyBirdDmb Yeah, you are perfectly right about thatt. My question was silly. English people can put on clothes which they want.

  • Why do you care what other people wear? It's up to them isn't it? Some people aren't self obsessed, neurotic or simply don't want to spend or can't afford 'nice' clothes. There isn't one answer (there never is). You should ask, why are you interested in what other people wear and why? It's probably more important and much more interesting. Sorry for being 'over-serious'.

  • @Asukapride Well the reason is the english are very jetlagged when they get to Tokyo and would really like to go to bed. So when you next see one the polite thing to do would be to offer him your bed as he or she is probably in need of some kip. That is an old British custom, in fact 'pyjama' derives from the old english 'pye jammer', meaning someone who wanders around in need of a bed after a hearty meal (usually pie in those days).

  • @Asukapride

The same way with people over here in the states. I see people from East Asia have to have this or that in fashion and we could really not care. Most of us don't care about fashion, we wear what's comfortable.

  • Comment removed

  • @Asukapride Maybe because they are on holiday! They most likely don't care to waste time dressing up to impress strangers they will never see again. But I also see Japanese people wearing pajamas or Burberry, walking around at night wearing sunglasses, men with girly handbags or women holding umbrellas over their heads when there is no rain. And have you been to Harajuku?!.. But whatever floats your boat. Wear what you want and be happy. Anything is better than a dull salaryman suit! :D

  • @Asukapride Don't care about fashion very much. Japanese people are a bit eccentric for them and for me as well, I just like to keep it subtle so people can look at me not at my clothes.

  • Comment removed

  • @Asukapride Having slit eyes isn't right fashionable but you still look at that don't you..

  • @Asukapride you East asians are ugly and look the same. so you use clothes to express yourself. That's why Japan sucks at movies so they went to an artifcial alternative " Anime " .. it's a matter of psycology

  • @ahmeaeaead Yeah white people are the best!!! They have light skin and they are the good ones in the world and the planet!! Yes hoo hoo! Rah! Death to to the Iraqis and Al Quaeda Muslims clash of civilisation etc etc love Jesus and Jews are persecuted death to the arabs

  • @Asukapride Simply there are differences between British and Japanese cultures. likewise, why do Japanese Tourists walk around like herds of sheep when they walking around London, Paris, New York, Rome - it's embarrassing ;)

  • @Asukapride People in the West have a different way of thinking about dress than people in East Asia. I'm Korean American, but I grew up in California and like to be casual - that's the way a lot of people like to dress here. It's more "democratic", more free and more youth-oriented. People in Japan or Korea like to dress more formally. There are some nice things about dressing more formally, and there are some nice things about dressing more casually.

  • Hobbes was a GENIUS!

  • the british royal family is of german origin LMAO

retarted english, being proud slaves of their German Masters.

  • "The English had killed [not executed] their King" - highly biased and unbalanced. Also, why does Cromwell have a yorkshire accent? Absolute toss.

  • Yo who is going to win your election???

  • bbc should make 'a history of america' as well

  • kittietubbakis: Capitalism works for a tiny fraction of the population, at the expense of everyone else.

  • kittetubbakis: LOL! Sweden is not a communist country, you have a king! They have good social programs over there, and I would have moved there if not for your absurd drug laws (even worse than ours!) and the military requirement. I have a neurological condition which makes it impossible for me to work in most fields, but I'm getting an education so that I can get a career and support myself.

  • i havent said we are comunist inn sweden?? yes we have socialprograms for people who doesent want to work. thank you yerk3 for a good argument peace .

  • kittetubbakis: The idea that poor people "doesn't want to work" is pure dogma.

  • kittietubbakis: So I assume you're rich? Because those are the only people capitalism works for. Go ask someone whose just been laid off how capitalism is working out for them. Or are you just under the impression that poor people are lazy? Go tell someone who works their ass off, but still barely scrapes by, that the reason they don't live in a mansion is because they were just too lazy. I dare you.

  • you are lazy yerk3

  • kittetubbakis: You are brainwashed, or else you have never seen a poor person. It would figure, since you've lived in a country with good social programs all your life, and have never seen what it looks like when they get taken away. Come to America, contact a steel worker whose job just got shipped over to Bangalore or wherever, and tell him that the reason he's poor is because he's lazy. I dare you.

  • capitalism = everybody can buy anny bycykle they want komunism= there is bikes you have a neighbour who has one and someday you will have one tooooo

  • kittietubbakis: Socialism = anyone can buy a bicycle. Capitalism = anyone whose parents were rich enough to send them to a good enough school to get into a good enough field to have a good enough income bracket to buy an SUV says "fuck bicycles," the polar ice cap melts, Manhattan sinks, Australia becomes a desolate moonscape, famine destroys China, the global economy collapses under its own decadence, the poorest resort to bread riots, then cannibalism, all as the social fabric falls to shreds.

  • If you didnt notice socilasm today is kapitalism you have to go further left to komunism to find your friends and their country sovjet and cuba you cant think of china as komunism anny longer they are rising he he so to speak

  • wow, what an insightful and intelligent comment...

  • how were tsar, kaiser, and king related from Victoria? she was their grandmom, but after that?

  • Sorry, I just didn't like his tone lol

  • Brilliant!! You have all of them, i'm soooo getting a cuppa and watching all this!!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING, YOU ARE A STAR!! =D

  • Ah, as an American, I have to be on the "no king" side but, there were some benefits of Royalty. No Democrats! LOL! The way that they did things in years past with the wars over succuession and all, that sort of sucks. I prefer the "little revolutions" that we are able to have every four years. Of course, it'd take me two forevers to make sence of the Parlimentary System anyway, Good thing that I'm on this side of the pond, eh!?! LOL!

  • ya gotta say to yourself..what would i do if someone came up to me and say..Im your king bow before me and treat me as royalaty) i would beat his ass down right there lol but you brits take it up the ass daily..don't get me wrong in the USA is not much better but atleast we see the idiots and call them what they are and the good leaders are far and few between

  • Look, I live in the US as well and i agree that our leaders are not the best, but compared to others around the world, they are. Thats no reason for which to criticize those whom u deem to be of inferior leadership. Elizabeth has been ruling for quite a few decades now, so dont u think that if there were a problem with her, they would have deposed of her as they did to their monarchs in 16 and 17th centuries? Since u dont understand their lifestyle dont criticize them. Presidents arent 4 every1.

  • Soory,

but like most Americans we don't like to folllow anyone nor look at them as royalty..And America is now falling under socialism idea's with Obama and Busch..Soon we will have a civil war im sure of it.Then we will be the America of the Free again. But never royalty.

  • I hate it but, you are probably right. Those on the Right are simply not willing to bow down to Obama the Messiah. If he lasts longer than four years, I foresee there being a lot of problems coming out of it. Americans are just too used to the idea of working for something and being able to call it theirs. We'll never go easily into that dark night of the grand sharing scheme that failed in the Soviet Union.

  • Oh, they're the only two alternatives are they; communism or law-of-the-jungle capitalism? I love and admire the US, and the best hope for the american future is that simplistic infants like you aren't listened to. And in the US, the home of capitalism, at present rewards don't reflect effort. Many people slog their guts out at minimum wage, are they any less deserving than perfidious bankers scheming their way to fortunes? The level of poverty in the richest nation on earth is obscene.

  • The Third Way is a term that has been used to describe a political position which attempts to transcend left-wing and right-wing politics by advocating a mix of some left-wing and right-wing economic policies. Third Way approaches are commonly viewed as representing a centrist compromise between capitalism and social democracy, or between market liberalism and social democracy

  • Our level of poverty is obscene? Whose isn't? But, before you slam the US, bear in mind, we do still have the fattest poor people on the planet. Personally, other than those that prefer to remain uneducated or over educated in over crowded fields, the US is actually doing pretty good.

  • First of all, I'm not slamming the US, I basically think the US is a good place and your political system has a proven ability to adapt to new problems and iron out its own imperfections. And you've made my own point for me, whilst some in the US are grotesquely overpriviliged (in many cases not because of hard work but due to the vagaries of capitalism), others remain extremely poor. Your suggestion that the majority of the poor "choose" to remain so is disgusting.

  • When I implied choose, what I meant is that anyone can take actions to change where they are in life. Don't like the job? There are ways of getting a higher education and getting a better paying job.

  • You have demonstrated an extraordinary level of ignorance regarding the nature of social exclusion. Part of being marginalised is a sense that one has no control over the direction of ones own life. Being pro-active and 'go-getting' requires self-esteem and a sense of hope, and poverty saps both of these from human beings. Unless you believe that the current increase in unemployment is because everyone became lazy overnight?

  • PaulUmbarger: Fat does not equal well fed. We have fat poor people because high fructose corn syrup is cheaper than actual food. They aren't getting the vitamins that they need.

  • If they are so unhealthy, how is it that they are able to have like ten kids each? Truth is, either way you look at it, the ones here are far better off than the ones that didn't get put on the boat, didn't jump the Rio Grande or, like MY ancesters, built a leaky boat and risk the journey.

  • "Americans are too used to the idea of working for something and being able to call it theirs".

Sadly, many Americans are used to having to work incredibly hard in low paying jobs and still having nothing to call theirs. That is the fundamental problem of unfettered capitalism.

  • If I take your meaning correctly...I agree... stressing the word "unfettered" ... While capitalism was run by the philosophy of "survival of the fittest" many abuses took place, once reigned in by some higher sensibilities (which were not incidentally, antithetical to a Biblical sensibility) some sanity came to our policies. However, Liberalism unfettered brings in its own set of abuses just as heinous.

Our founding fathers spoke of the need for balance, refusing either extreme.

  • I agree, the capitalist market system can work, but only when it is correctly understood as operating within an intricate network of social, cultural and historical norms. You are correct in identifying the role religion has played in ensuring this in the past (an example being "the protestant work ethic"). The fundamental flaw of neoliberalism is to conceive of the market as an abstract entity, operating outside of any societal context. The 3rd way was in part a reaction to this imbalance.

  • If you even had a clue about your own history, one of your most revered creators of what you regard as sacred in the U.S said that America would be destroyed by it's own people, never from a country from across the seas...From the inside out...Through government. That's why you have a backup plan if your government fucks you...I suppose your backup is called the Senate right??? lol

  • UFO

    ha ha ha haa!

You idiots wouldn't know socialism if it bit you on your fascist asses.

  • britain is the best country on earth

  • lol oh yeah..they have a royal family who controls the country..the people have to kiss thier roayal crown as if thier blood was less than the Kings..Are you people on crack ??? they should kill the king every time the get one..in this day and age you people still suck up to a king ??? does that even ring a bell of being just a bit far outdated ?? lol..the people are ok just brainwashed in a MAJOR WAY.

  • Wow, you have an abnormal understanding of history...A monarchy does not represent power over it's people anymore, and you clearly don't see the difference between 'ruling' and 'reigning' over a country. The monarchy is the last defense mechanism British people have in the light that your own government takes over your country and ruins it (Kinda like what Bush did for you guys) our monarchy has the power at hand to dissolve such governments. Your government has the power to keep you in 'check'.

  • Well, I'm no republican but you have an overly-sanguine view of the nature of the modern British monarchy. Whilst it may be nice to think of the Royals as the final bastion against the vagaries of democracy, in reality the power to dissolve government could never be exercised; it would sound the death knell for the monarchy. Instead, today's royal family operates covertly in the backrooms of power, securing wealth and power on behalf of established interests, themselves included.

  • Well, she does dissolve governments. She has dissolved every government that has been in parliament, being a constitutional monarchy and all.....

  • What a ridiculous comment! The monarch doesn't dissolve governments at their own discretion, it is ebtirely at the 'request' of the prime minister when they call a general election. If the monarch ever decided to refuse such a request the public outcry would force the abolition of the monarchy. Events like the dissolution and opening of parliament by the monarch are nothing more than ceremonial, and don't contain within them a single grain of monarchical power over the parliament.

  • Why are your panties in a twist? When did I say at there own discretion? I know it's ceremonial I never denied that either you dimb wit? Point out where I seem to express they have all the power !?!?!? I'm merely explaining to an American the CAUSE for having a constitutional monarchy, and they are some of the basic principles of it!!! Stop jumping to conclusions, youtube gives you a limited character count for goodness sake.

  • You're the one who got pissy with the sarky comment before. All I did was point out certain inaccuracies in your original comment, and there are many. For example, you seriously misunderstand American government, which is designed as a system of checks and balances. What is more, this was achieved in the absence of a monarch (something you seem to believe is necessary for limited government) and, the Bush years notwithstanding, the system has proved reasonably successful, for thatpurpose anyway

  • Oh please, grow up Mr Lewey lol...I'm bringing humility to the British side here, not the Americans you turnip. My comment was a sarcastic tone towards our constitution which does not get exercised, it's not being literal you muppet! Quit being a leech on everything I say already lol!

  • Clearly you're one of these idiots who comes out with stupid fucking statements, and then says, "oh, I was only being sarcastic" when their ridiculous simplistic view of the world withers under the scrutiny of anyone who actually has a clue what they're talking about.

  • hahaha!! So you DO have your panties in a twist ;-)

Go Mr Lewey, get all red faced and angry at me, burst a vein while your at it :D

Under everyones scrutiny, they will all agree how utterly gullable you are !! :D

  • Believe me, I am not angry and certainly not "sitting here red-faced". I'm just happy I've been able to stick to the facts, whilst you're the kind of cretinous pond-life who is ignorant as he is rude.

Your infantile use of emoticons and "lol" says more about your level of intelligence than I ever could.

What I really don't get is why you've made this into a slanging match, especially since my first comment wasn't even attacking yours; I barely even disagreed with you!

  • You really are a moron.

  • No Canada is sorry

  • @mummy182 It is .It`s just a pity its people let it down sometimes! And yes I am a Brit!

  • @mummy182 yes..british manage to be like that after taking others country properties..see what they have done to asia before world war 1 and 2..get up man...the british is a cuntry that full with killers and murders!!

  • @jetleeklate Hey you Malaysian moron, if it wasn't for the British your country would have become a communist dictatorship like Burma; thousands died defending your country, so how about you stop being an ignorant fuckwit and be thankful for your democracy, rule of law and modern civilization. You can always go back to living in a straw hut if you wish, but you will have to give up Youtube if you do.

  • @mummy182 I'm trying to enjoy a movie, could you please take your blind nationalism out of here? I could find plenty of individuals that would disagree with you.

  • @mummy182 no america is, because we can kick your little island countrys little ass. all we would have to do if shoot one little tiny bomb, and there goes your country, all into dust!

  • @JUKIO01 because you wouldn`t stand a chance against a real army in a conventional war!

  • @JUKIO01 because you wouldn`t stand a chance against a real army in a conventional war! And, oh yeah! We have those little bombs aswell.

  • @swollower u better watch yourself swollower!

  • @JUKIO01 OOh sorry is that a threat!?

  • @swollower just a suggestion, if you know whats good for you cum swallower

  • @mummy182 I love collecting coins from Britiain but I wouldnt be so smug about your Britain.

  • diggers and levelers yes!

  • The monarch of England has no real constitutional role, the parliamentarians won the civil war and the restoration wasnt a complete reversal, its not as if Liz 2.0 can dissolve parliament an raise taxes for war, saying your a royalist is like saying your a Trekkie, your a fan of the Queen in the same way trekkies love star trek, politically its meaningless.

  • british 'republicans' are disgusting

  • primative you come from gibralter so fuck off. what say do you have in the policies and administration fo britain.

  • REPUBLICAN PRIDE

  • pathetic :)

  • Even though, I am a strong Royalist (cheak out my channel, if you have any doubts) but I have am not a great fan of Charles I. However, I have to say he was a brave man and died as a KING!

  • Republicans make me sick.

  • Strange and sad that the likes of Cromwell, Churchill and the duke of Wellington are held as national heroes while the likes of John Lilburne, Gerard Winstanley and John Ball are hardly known. It's like no-one gives a toss about democracy in this country.

    Bring back the Levellers!

  • I totally agree, the problem is, we are still a monarchy and the people you mentioned were republicans..

  • 'Bring back the Levellers! '

What do we need them for today?

  • Why do we need Levellers today? To reaffirm the basic principle of equality that is the bedrock of any real democracy. It's painfully obvious that in all alleged democracies, the rich minority have far more influence than the poor majority. The Iraq war wouldn't have happened otherwise - big business interests over-ruled public interests. Or look at how the greed of a few bankers has fouled up the economic prospects for the whole country. The need for a spot of levelling is overwhelming.

  • levelling

  • I keep on comparing this video to Starkey's intro for Cromwell; Schama is very intelligent no dobut, but he sounds tired and sometimes his articulation is a little cliched by comparision with Starkey.

  • My preference lies with Schama. I find his stories to be very personalised and avoid just a narrative history. Starkey in comparison is very Oxford history. Starkey often looks like he is going to smash up the place should anyone dare question him.

  • Starkey is puritanical.

  • Simon Schama and David Starkey ; now there's a comparision. I prefer Starkey but respect them both.

  • They're both massively homosexual, which causes an interesting image to come to mind.....

  • I love how 'ReichWingers' always presume that the power & compliance they demand upon Others... will always be THEIR values They're simply not accustomed to believing it could be any other way, yet, its patently demonstrable that it often becomes much more narrow & extremist than anyone would anticipate... ┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄ Spread Love...
