Last time I'd heard a few years ago Mary who that songs written about, shes still alive, was written in the 50s I think it was, when the actual songs not about a wedding that actually happened, was written for a proposed wedding but she never married the great man in question until 6 years later.
Lovely song though one of my all time fav scottish folk songs, sometimes reffered to as the Lewis Bridal Song since thats where Mary was from.
Well Malcolm also plays bass, but not this time (and not live) :-), but he's an awesome guitar player!!! Thanks for recording and sharing, Barras was so noisy I couldn't hear the more subtle bits!!! Thanks!
That really doesnt suprise me, this guy can play anything he gets his hands on, truely one of the best musicians ive seen ever really, so underated, why hes my hero basically, also had the lovely pleasure of meeting him and chattng to him, more him asking me stuff as i was really shell shocked, but ace guy, read what I was thinking like a book, just a very well mannered guy and an inspiration to me!
Doesnt play bass, if you actually met Malc you'd know that, Ive met him, can play this now.
Started playing the pipes at 14, got an old accoustic when he was about a year later used to see this guy play when he was younger a sort of local idol of his, and then got asked to play with runrig
He's an international award winning piper is our Malc, a very decent guy, was mortified when he collapsed or I heard he had whilst at Edinburgh Waverley station, first thing I thought hope hes ok.
@jsmith19810808 Just read your post about Malky, have you heard how he is keeping these days, never knew he was an award winning piper. He is also a brilliaant guitarist, I put him him in the same league as Brian May and others.
Step we gaily on we go
Heel for heel and toe for toe
Arm in arm and row and row
All for Mairi' s wedding
Over hill-way up and down
Myrtle green and bracken brown
Past the shieling through the town
All for Mairi's wedding
Great song.
