Those skills have gone - have a look at 2:39. She writes faster than anyone can type on the computer now. No wonder they produced big novels like War and Peace in Russia!
My first encounter with this wonderful singer was an old record at my grandparents - excerpts of Le Nozze di Figaro with Schwarzkopf, Seefried, Kunz, London, and a young Cherubino who blew everyone away with his/her passion and the sheer beauty of her voice. Sena who? From that day on I was a fan.
Merci beaucoup pour ce témoignage filmé. Jurinac est pour moi l'une des 3 cantatrices dont j'emmenerai les disques sur une île déserte. Phrasé, couleur, intensité, simplicité de la ligne de chant... et belle de surcroît!
Magnifique.
Does the entire opera exists or is it only this scene ?
Sena Jurinac was a fantastic singer and a wonderful actress as well. I was fortunate enough to experience her in many roles. She remains to this day unsurpassed in several of these roles.
Sena Jurinac was a soprano; I believe she might have also sang mezzo roles at one time but she was mainly a soprano. She is sensational and I have loved all her roles, but the one that always impresses is the Poet in "Ariadne of Naxos". her voice was angelic and inspirational....
Yup - agree with this - I've just uploaded clips of her entire performance as Der Komponist in 'Ariadne auf Naxos' from the 1965 Salzburger Festspiele. Hope you like 'em!
I know! I don't speak German, but her consonants were very crisp!!!! And I enjoyed her performance... but I like this scene in the original Russian better though...
Nowadays it would be sung in Russian but a while back especially in Germany it was the practice to do all operas in German, despite the original language. This was before the advent of surtitles.
Ahh, I've just discovered another favourite singer in Sena Jurinac! I wonder that I didn't know of her before! Fantastic vocal and thespic abilities! Thanks for the upload, Onegin65.
She's Bosnian born, not Austrian. I think that Austria is her adoptive country. She's spectacular and her instrument one of the prettiest of all time.
Yes, Jurinac is still alive. For many years she has lived in Augsburg, which was where her husband was from. As afar as I know she still lives there. She appeared in some of the documentary parts that PBS added to the Vienna Opera Gala from 2005, but those segments aren't included in the comercially available DVD. An accidental discovery of Jurinac when I was 14 was what got me interested in opera. What an incomparable artist she was.
What a joy to see her so beautiful and feminine and so obviously suited as Tatiana. Have only ever seen her in the Rosenkavalier trouser role clips opposite Schwarzkopf. Wonderful.

Is this in German?

Yes it is.
And she has a wonderful and clear diction.
I could understand every word.
I'm German, but I can't understand every singer in using my language.

I thought that this Eugene Onegin was by the Russian poet, Alexandr Pushkin...so wouldn't it be in Russian?
