  • It`s so good to hear this good tune again!!

    Good memories!!

  • nice song ray....

  • I think of how wonderful I felt the first time I gave myself to my one true love when I hear this ... They don't make love songs like this anymore.

  • The power of a Google search on some lyrics.... 30 years later I found out what was that nice song I heard on the radio a couple of times

  • Love this song. Ir,s part of my past...

  • WHUR CLASSIC..96.3 WASHINGTON DC..rip Melvin Lindsey..

  • Lays it down and disses Edison all at once. Can't top that!

  • Listening to this song makes you lone for back in the day music. Today's filth on the radio leaves a lot to desire. Thank you whomever you are who posted this. OK,it's not fair that i'm 49yrs.old and this is my generation of music, but the world know's the late 60's thru the early 90's black music ruled.Nothing against hall&oats, they we're my boy's to but America has never produced anything like this time period,it's eternal.

  • "A LONG LAST STABLE RELATIONSHIP IS GONNA TAKE US MORE THAN JUST ONE NIGHT"...

    A poet

  • Awesome joint.....(nuff said)

  • HAHAHAHA! Redman, tonight's da night :-) dope! this original is sexy as hell!

  • Yea! i was right they LOOPED IT DEY LOOPED IT NOT JUST DUPED IT HAHAHAHA. Looped the Flute and the Horns. Blah bring back the funk and soul and LIKE NAS SAID HIP HOP IS DEAD! THIS IS MUSIC, TALENT. SOME RAPPERS ARE GREAT LYRICISTS AND HAVE GREAT FLOWS BUT C'MON. DEY LOOPED IT! HAHA AND THAT WOULD'VE BEEN Erik Sermon from EPMD who probably came up with it, as he put Red on, and did his production early on, as well as introduced him on the song HeadBanger. Crafty! But you can't hide good music!

  • ok, who did this beat 1st. Them or Herbie Hancock? He has a song with the same damn beat

  • @coreyaustin1 This song was 1st done by Ray & Raydio!!!

The cut was written by Ray & Herbie!!!

They used the same basic rhythm track on both versions adding a few extra parts on Herbie's version!!

Also replacing the male vocals with females on Herbie's!!

  • @musicminor25 Ok cool. I was seeing if there was some kind of beef between the two. I'm glad I was wrong and Herbie actually worked on both projects. Thanks

  • @coreyaustin1 What is the name of the Herbie Hancock song with the same beat as this song?

  • Sexy and Beautiful!Straight to favs ;o)

  • ...This track is so muthafuggin' SMOOTH!! Music for the true old school bros and chickas! ENJOY!

  • ********all stars *********

  • scurf going out from his balls? dammm...

  • maravilha negra é a composição destes maravilhos artista

que conseguem capitar as emoções dos apaixonados e transformar os momentos e divinas artes musicais.

    R. França 10.07.2010

  • This tune was just a classic Disco-Era slow jam! The DJ would put this ...or Chic-Warm Summer Night...or The Bee Gees -How Deep Is Your Love on.That was your cue to "close a deal". Was Ray Obiedo on this cut too?

  • Wonderful song.THIS IS THE BEST MUSIC!!!

  • Awesome track.. my daddy used to play this 8TRACK all the way to Alabama and back both ways annually... this is my SHIT!!!

  • This is such a good damn song.I can't express my feelings listening to that groove. Too bad there's no music like this nowadays.

  • Ray Parker, Jr. created some of the finest musical moments from the late 70's / early 80's.......a time when the "Disco" craze was at it's peak. It was a pleasure to purchase Rays' albums back then, because he & his group "Raydio" stayed true to the REAL R&B/SOUL "flavor" of that time.......they kept it simple, and DAMN GOOD!

  • I've always maintained that Erykah Badu used part of this song for "Other Side of the Game".

    Classic song right here...

  • SENSATIONAL, did not know this track and now I went down to my PC SALUDOS LEON ...

  • I'm 26 can't remember these songs and where I was but this was a good era and I appreciate these songs...all of those artist whether it was sexual or grooving it was all funky love it

  • Nice one Leon! Herbie also does it on "Magic Windows".

  • I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 100 stars

  • wow me and the fellas sing this song at a talent show I believe in 1980 at JC Harmon KCK. We blew and all the girls screamed.{I was the lead of course}

  • I was 14 when I really got into Ray Parker Jr and Raydio and their music was the background sounds to all of my sexual encounters with 16 year old girls!!!!

  • So smooth!!!!!!

  • Just remembering, someone else has made (or covered) this around the same time and I'm not sure which is the original. This time it's a woman singing, nice too. I remember the DJ back in the day actually mixing the both!

Never get tired of this great track.

  • It's on the Herbie Hancock album, "Magic Windows". The difference is that there are more synthensizers and Vickie Randle sings the lead. Ray composed it with Herbie for the "Two Places at The Same Time" LP. Another monster composition that they did together with Alphonse Mouzon is "Stars In Your Eyes" from Hancocks "Monster" LP. Gavin Christopher sings the lead and Ray plays the bass and guitar. He's amazing!

  • @ethurst2

THAT'S why this song sounds like Herbie's "Satisfied With Love"! It's got that same groove!

  • This is the Original...

  • I've searched for this song for years. I was in love with a young lady in Brighton, MA. This song I used to listen to with the intent of serenading her with this song. I never got the opportunity, but it was great time in my life. She was my first love.

  • members only coats and crayon shoes with a shag strolling in compton 1980 reaganomics

  • AWESOME !!!!!!! WE NEED SOME MORE RPJ

  • LOVE IT!!!

Ray Parker Jr. was SUPA fine and this cut takes me back to some sugar-sweet memories from back in the day... thanks for the trip!! :-)

  • Love this to the bone! Surprised no rap artist has used this (or maybe they have, or not that I'd want them too anyway, unless they do it well). This beautiful track is best left alone. I remember some DJ dropped this on LWR back in the day and I was hooked ever since. Love the use of the Rhodes and that bass, can't help it. RPJ's silky smooth voice and great rhyming is awesomely cool too. Best track.

  • Master P has in "Is There A Heaven For A Gangsta" and Redman has in "Tonites Da Nite."

  • Damn! No one is safe from sampling! LOL

  • @RetroSmooveHouse .Blackstreet - Tonights the night no rapper but there's a version with craig mack hehe..

  • @ayohmamaee Redman...I don't rememba Blackstreet ever usin' this, 'n if they did, they ain't rock it like how Reggie Noble did!!!

  • @meechamaka411 Redman Didnt Sample This Song For Tonights The Night..

  • @ezearl yes he did...

  • @ezearl Yeah, I know...I jus' sampled this jam!!! Red sampled the Isaac Hayes version (which U can tell that Ray Parker was influenced by in this jam)!!!

  • @meechamaka411 They did. Listen to "Tonight's the Night" on Blackstreets Debut CD.

  • @ayohmamaee I must apologize to U, ayohmamaee...I always thought this was the sample for Redman's joint, but it isn't...it's Isaac Hayes...if U hear his, the sound so freakin' similar...that "fluttering horn" bit!!! I'm man'n up...LOL

  • @RetroSmooveHouse

REDMAN. HIS FIRST HIT. "TONIGHT'S DA NIGHT". THE MAIN HOOKS ARE SAMPLED OR COPIED AND OBVIOUSLY THE TITLE OF THE SONG. BUT THE RAP WAS NOT THE SAME SUBJECT. Sorry for the all caps. But check out that flute sound in the background and the jazzy horns, right after the horns they are totally in REDMAN'S TONIGHT'S DA NIGHT. THE BEAT might be. Dunno, was never that into him. BUT YES CHECK THAT REDMAN SONG. YOU REALLY HAD TO LISTEN CLOSE CAUSE OF ALL THE SAMPLE SUING BY THAN. 1!

  • @RetroSmooveHouse

Also Retro. I agree I lose a lot of respect for rappers because the sampling or copying as I remember the horns and flute lasting longer in Redman's tracks Tonight's Da Night, it just seems so cheap! Like what happened to real creative musicians? And that song the only reason I recognized it here, is because it made that first solo Redman song a hit. It was so catchy as it is here. Rappers though did keep people paid. George Clinton (to a point) Rick James, Wild Cherry, etc.

  • i was 16 use to push my pops caddy to this in kc mo good ol days this song got the pantys wet

  • I'm in grade one in 1980s. Only recently i discovered his songs. They are great songs.

  • Daryl2280 yep a senior in high school getting ready to go to college in 1980. That was a great year!

  • I know this sort of not the norm since this post is suppose to be about music. But this song calms Mr. Chip's nerves. Man I can't believe how much deeper the Somali Pirate thing is!!! I hope the President can see if we have light at the end of the tunnel before we kill more of these "Child" Soldiers damn man we can't win for losing!

  • This album was soo hot and this track was the panty peeler off of the album. One of the great seduction songs of all time. Let's face it Ray Parker Jr. does not get half the credit he deserves. This boy was bad bad to the bone. Nowadays he's making quite a name for himself as a smooth jazz guitarist.

  • Damn I remember this classic! 1980 the year I graduated from high school!

  • the year i was born!! i love this music too! wow highschool huh? thats cool, music was still about love, and not sex all the time

  • @lunupe83 My year too! I bumped this every weekend!

  • Ricordi magnifici dei miei 14 anni e dei primi festini sotto casa......Grandissimi Raydio

  • The good ole days!!!!Thanx for posting, I'll just put my album back in the cover.

  • oops did not mean to leave out the man that single handed one the Grammy for jazz Herbie Hancock!!!

    Mr. Chip's

  • Man love this cut...but Ray sometimes you said things that "injured your great musik" ...may that be in the past...swell jam...man wish I could go back to those good times...but the Prez will show us the way.Peace.

    Mr. Chip's

  • Ray Parker Jr. and Herbie Hancock collaborated a couple of jams for sure. Even though RPJ wasn't very gifted in the vocals, his style sure struck a cord with the ladies ...and when it comes to slow jams, isn't that all that really matters?..lol

  • It truly is

  • Herbie Hancock did his own version (with a different singer) on his 'Magic Windows' album from 1981.I only found out Raydio did the original in...well the year of my birth:1980

  • ..."And tell Thomas Edison, we don't need his lights" LOL!!!!!! :-D I love that line!

  • Don't forget "Remind Mr. Bell Not To Ring This Phone Tonight"!(HaHa) Ray gives you a funky groove & a history lesson all in one!

  • (LOL!)Not too mention he's still a hellified guitar player. Not much in the vocal dept though...
