In China, for example, people honk at you to let you know that they're going to cut you off. When they come to American, Americans see it as obnoxious and dumb. It's just a cultural difference.

Seriously, only Americans would call these cars 'rice'. In Japan, they know exactly what they are doing with their own cars. Make it their personal canvas, make it an expression of themselves, give it go-cart handling and modify it accordingly. That's what's up. Mountain drifters, saisoku, kanjo, etc racers, even all the tuners [especially popular ones], it is what it is.

I too am American my friend. I live in NYC, but i've been to Cali twice so far, and yeah I agree with you. The scene there is very nice and i can see how they look to the car scene in Japan as inspiration which I have tons of respect for. When I say "only Americans will call this 'Rice'" I'm not saying all Americans, just in ratio of North Americans to people of other nations, most of the ones here would say what they are doing in Japan is "rice". However, fortunately, myself and countless other residents of America can see the love and appreciation Japanese people have for their vehicles. Visual modifications being a representation of their personalities, performance/suspension modifications depending on their driving habits but Go-Kart handling is a plus [EVEN if they have cut springs]. It's always great to hear how much other people appreciate it as well!

@arboldin I Agree with you, Even though i dont own a honda or any of these flashy cars i still know tuning specs for a very good Honda. i own Nissans but for my the EK9 Honda is something i would know how to tune. Forget flashy Exteriors. Start with whats under the hood. :] Theres a really big Honda team in my area, but most are just in their Air work stage (Intake, Exhaust system, Headers.) not a bad start i guess.
