I much prefer the first version to this. This one is too much like strange Brew for me and the first version has some excellent raw playing from all three of them, especially Bruce's kickass bassline
Clapton's raw blues vocals.... hhhmmmm. Good guitarist, not a good singer and there is nothing raw about his singing in this. If you want raw blues singing, try some Howling Wolf
@TheBIgBarns U moron you can't compare them like that. Clapton is white and Howling Wolf was black. And Clapton DID sing raw blues in From the Cradle for what it's worth
I always thought this version was great. It was the sole studio track on the Live Cream LP. I know they used this as the basis for Strange Brew, but I still think this is better. ...Just my opinion.
Thanks for posting this. I remember it, from a long time ago. Yes, of course, Strange Brew, obviously. But what makes this special is the lovely controlled vocal and those awesome (Albert King influenced) guitar licks!
Yeah, Clapton always wanted to just be in a blues band, but the record company aske him to rerecord the lyrics into a Beatles-like pop song. The core of the song though is still blues, as you can hear on the original recording.
I Like the Shuffle version better!

Listening to the Version by Junior Wells and Buddy Guy, which Eric got the song originally from, this pales miserably.

So much better than Strange Brew. The guitar leads aren't nearly as great but Clapton's raw Blues vocals in this makes up for it so much!

This song is pretty cool. Gail Collins heard this, but switched the lyrics to the Strange Brew lyrics.
DDInDaHouse187 3 years ago
the reason Clapton agreed to Strange Brew instead of Lawdy Mama is because they allowed him to play an Albert King style solo in there. haha.

This is perfect music for my ear.
I cant and I want stop playing Lawdy Mama.

This was the original recording of the song. It was only later that the producer added the new lyrics.

Thanks for the imformation. I was wondering if they just re-recorded it or something. Thanks.

Yea, I see what u mean. Musically it's still blues. But the music still made it appeal to the bllues crowd.
