I like how it's impossible to see what you're doing.
I had a dv5-1124ca with overheating problems except the ATI GPU was connected with a thermal pad and all I had was thermal paste so I just put loads of it on until the gap was filled. Mobo and CPU temps were down a full 20°C each but the GPU doesn't have any sensors so I can't tell if it's fixed or just taking longer to die on me.
I fixed my overheating issue by returning it and buying another brand... HP laptops have been over heating for years and they claim its normal. Thats just BS
I'm thinking about replacing the palm rest and mouse pad portion of my son's hp dv5, and figured I may as well go ahead and touch up the thermal paste while I'm at it. His laptop runs hot also. 3 years old, just now upgraded the hard drive, and the left mouse click button is a little wonky.
Would love to replace the laptop, but not in the budget.
I was thinking, I think another reason why the computer is still warm even after cleaning, including the fan and heatsink, is because the fan itself is not working properly, I dont mean it stops working where it totally dont move but it still move's but weaker than it's suppose to be. So it doesnt generates enough air to cool the computer down,
Man, the part that I need to figure out, taking apart the keyboard, is so hard to follow with the crazy way you did this! I appreciate that you wanted to make it look "cool," but a simple easy-to-see video would have been better!
thx a lot., you helped me very much. before shut down due to overheat after 10-15 min of high performance. after a good internal cleaning now silently working at any performance and no emergency shut down anymore.
Bro help me out, my screen is flickering white and going all white when i move it..Prbbly the wire is screwed somehow under the hinge...Can I get to it without removing all the screws on the back to isolate it or something...I'm so screwed if my screen dies all the way...:/ What do you suggest? It's a contact issue, I know that much coz it only happens when i try to open and close the lid...thx much!
@qazibasit yes its hard to assemble it back ..i have the same faulty dv5 i disassembled it and then when i assembled it the dvd drive came out i disassembled it again thinking that i forgot to put screw on dvd drive then i found that the screw is at the end of assembling.....lol

My Dv7 runs at nearly 160F on idle. It's a problem with all HP laptops. The fucking retarded design used for the heatsink traps dust.

What about the graphics chip. Have you removed the rubber from the cooling system and you have put the thermal paste there too?
[google translate :)]

That won't help, even you put a thermal compound in it.

@qazibasit
My advice to you would be, 'always' kept a log on each step you do.
In my case were, paper, pencil, and a video log.
Be careful with the screws, because there are a lot of diferent kinds. And not all fit enywere.
Hp has manuals for every laptop model on this matter.

@DouglaskaT
Good one!
take the battery off.
Then the small screws inside the compartiment , take them out.
The speaker cover it is a snap in. So after that did took those screws out, push the little corners up, to snap it up.
