Okay, so the equation is a load of rubbish that I just made up, but the basic gist of it is that Gibsons are fantastic guitars but can be WAY overpriced.
Fenders aint all that great, id know i own one id id trade it for my uncles GIbson any day of the week. The craftsmanship, the sound, the comfortability is matched by nothing. My Fender sounds great but it just aint me.
im sick of people talking about how gibson is going to shit, there made 100% in usa so go climb into your toyota and buy an ibanez, ps they still sound better than 99.9 percent of guitars out there
@nccamokid Yes, but going on the same point, why should people have to pay big money for a USA-made, big brand guitar that's very good quality when you can buy a USA-made, little-known brand guitar that's very good quality for less money if you shop around? Hell, even a China or Mexico or Korea-built guitar can be damn good quality if you get a decent one and for infinitely cheaper.
damm how can people say that marshalls suck. Yes i love oranges i love engls i love all those boutique amps (especially soldano god i love soldano) but marshall will always be in my heart as the trademark of rock sound
Awesome play and awesome guitar! I also have one of this kind, unfortunatelly on a small fender amp but still sounds great (not this great though). Nice job, keep it up man!
hey guys. i am considering buying a les paul after hearing this awesome tone of it.. but since i never had the chance to play one gibson les paul, i want to know whether the neck is comfortable for playing fast stuff. I own an epiphone les paul worth 500$ and i dont like how the neck feels in your hands. and i wonder whether the gibsons neck will be easier to play on .
I don't own a Gibson either but I played some at the store and thought the same thing you did: that it must feel better to play a Gibson but I think the neck is not much better on a gibson. I was appalled at how a Gibson SG felt. I think I prefer epiphone's feel almost.
The Gibson necks are generally THICKER than the Epis, the new LP has a 50s neck profile though, and is a little thinner than regular LP necks, probably similar in thickness to the Epis. Try before you buy mate :-)
if you relly want a les paul get one with a tapered neck or a 60's neck. But also another great guitar is jackson. it has insane playability for shredding
I can't remember, I sold it a long time ago. I think I had the deep switch set on, the presence and treble were at around 12:00, and the mids were probably around 2:00. Bass was probably around 2:00 as well.
Thanks for the kind words. I was just looking at getting a new guitar (a Dean Time Capsule V) and needed to raise some funds. I'll probably own another Les Paul some time in the future - maybe a Historic.
i have a gibson les paul classic and loving it bought also have two les paul customs but for some reoason my classsic sounds better lol its a gibson les paul classic gold top 2088
I bought mine in 2004 - back then, all Les Paul Standards with flame maple tops came without the pickguard attached and no holes in the top. I think they still do it that way. What's nice is if you want the pickguard on but don't want to drill the hole to mount it, it stays on decently with the friction from the pickguard mounting brackets.
I can't remember. I sold this amp over a year ago. But the distortion I think was all the way up, and I usually back down the presence and treble quite a bit.
To be honest, I've never played a 50s Les Paul before, but I've played several 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s Les Pauls, and the quality got significantly better once Henry J bought the company from Norlin. I had an '85 Gibson Les Paul Custom and the quality turned me off to Gibson for years. Fortunately the quality has been getting better through the years.
Oh Brother..... the IQ levels on these pages just amaze me....... I have been playing guitar for over 40 years........ I now own an Epi Slash and Gibson Slash, both are of great quality. I own several different makes and depending on the sound I want the right guitar gives that sound. Epiphones are great guitars and most play quite well............ every time I see a person say that something is crap, usually it is the person who is the real......... crap player!
For me personally, I sound the same playing a $100 guitar as I do a $2500 guitar. Check out my GFS pickup demo. That's a cheap plywood $30 Kramer that I installed $70 worth of GFS pickups into, and I don't think I sound all that much different playing that vs. this Les Paul.
if you can't tell the difference then your not good enough to own a gibson, also if you think squire and american made fenders are the same your a cunt .
No offence, but Epiphones are cheaper versions of Gibson. With less prestige and shittier pickups and less experienced builds. Gibsons kick Epiphones' asses, not to say that Epiphones suck though, they're pretty good as guitars go. Gibsons are just at a Godly standart, that's all.
Since I can't afford a Gibson, being only 14, I'm getting an Epiphone too :D
my epiphone has a sticker on the back of the neck where it attaches to the body which says "made in China". it makes it look like a cheap piece of crap little baby's toy guitar lol
also, most epiphones aren't made from a solid piece of wood, they just have a picture of wood glued onto the surface that's laquered over. Gibson, on the other hand, uses very high quality wood and very highly skilled workers.
Most of the video was just noodling, but the ones that were actual parts of songs were: 0:53 Little Wing (Jimi/SRV), 1:30 was a jump blues in the style of Duke Robillard/T-Bone Walker, 1:53 was a little bit of Albert Lee style, 2:17 was B.B. nice job... i'm playing a gibson les paules custom 90' winered and a gibson les paules 50' gold top. The only thing i can say is I LOVE LES PAULES.... they are the best guitars ever.
I bought it from Centre City Music in San Diego - I think around $1600 or so. The list price has gone up considerably since then, but call Saul at Centre City Music and he can hook you up with a great deal.
Second, I almost got the same setup that you have on this video: Dsl 100, Gibson les paul classic, 2x12 vintage 30 cab. I have a little issue: When I play on the neck pick up with a lot of gain, the tone gets really muddy, like the tube are starving. The problem is obvious when I play on the neck pickup around 12 fret on the 3 lower strings... if I let the note rings, all of the highs desapear.. maybe these pick ups are two hot?
Or maybe it's my amp? Do experiment this kind of problem with your dsl? I play rock, punk rock, hard rock, classic rock and sometimes metal. Do you think these burstbuckers will be good for me?
Hmmm.... that's interesting. I never had that problem with this setup. I don't own the Les Paul and the DSL anymore, so I can't try it out to check what your problem might be. One thing you might do is to lower your neck pickup - it might have too much gain for the front end of the amp, but this might help. The other thing is I'm wondering if you have a bad tube, but then you would hear that on the other pickup settings as well. Good luck and let me know what you find.
I already tried to lower my neck pickup and it doesn't solve the problem... and I got this problem with other amps as well... but these pick up are by far the hotter pick up Gibson do, maybe too much...
the burstbucker pros seems to be killer, maybe i'll swap my stock pickups. They seems to be more acticulate, more mids, which I always ask for more... my stock pick ups are too bassy... your tone in this video is insane... but fingers have a lot to do with that... thanks for your quick answer!
Hey flahprius, really enjoyed the video. I just purchased my first LP on Saturday, a new '07 Standard in Desert Burst that I got at a killer price at Guitar Center (it was on clearance). I couldn't pass it up and I love it! Believe it or not I read almost all the comments on your vid, and am blown away by some of the stupid things people say. I don't know how you can post a video. You have great patience man! Anyway, great playing. I really enjoyed it and hope to get to your level someday.
What are you talking about you French boy. - you can't compare this guy to Vai and Satriani!!! He's good but those two are in a different league to this guy.
Ofcourse Gibson is better, but it's not worth paying 3 grand for. The pickups are a little better and it's made in the U.S.A. thats the biggest difference.
Are you serious? I don't know where people get it in their heads that just because a certain guitar is used more prominently in a certain genre, or better facilitates a certain style of playing, that it couldn't be well suited for any other genre or style of playing. Get a clue before the next time you want to look like you know something, cause it's people like you that are the reason that a lot of bullshit is passed off as fact amongst musicians.
Very Nice demo. Great playing and tone.

Hey, I'm just jealous, keep on rocking.

Thanks dude!! Congrats on the new guitar - Desert Burst is an awesome color! Can I ask how much you bought it for?
flahprius 3 years ago
Thanks! I got it for $1525 (plus tax) including the hard case. I didn't mention that this one also has the 60's neck.
They were pushing the '08's pretty hard, and I just got lucky that they had this '07 left. I was pretty surprised myself.

Oh, and I had a 10% GC coupon I got from their website, which helped. I think they're still there and good through the end of the month.

That's incredible. Congrats on the purchase - you got a great guitar at a steal!!

Why did you sell it? just asking

I wanted to buy a Dean V and didn't have enough money. The Dean is pretty unique, and I figure I can buy another Les Paul someday.

What are you talking about you French boy. - you can't compare this guy to Vai and Satriani!!! He's good but those two are in a different league to this guy.
Benszymanskiisright 3 years ago
Oh yeah, I'm NOWHERE in Vai and Satriani's league!! Those guys are giants! I wish I was as inventive as those guys.

Ofcourse Gibson is better, but it's not worth paying 3 grand for. The pickups are a little better and it's made in the U.S.A. thats the biggest difference.
CarterBoyy227 3 years ago
apparantly, i f u just buy 2 gibson pickups for around £140 and use them on the epiphone, then it is just as good as the gibson
robxx64 3 years ago
no the wood and quality do much more than u think of the sound. it aint just the pickups
vandmalonogskid 3 years ago 2
epiphones are still pretty to close to gibsons. i have the epiphone slash plus top. it sounds awesome with the duncans.

Epiphone vs Gibson. Which do you think is better?
TheTeenGodfather 3 years ago
gibson , better quality and sound, but epiphone is good too, the bigger diference is the finishes, the wood and the details. x)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
that's not how a Les Paul shud b played. That's for like an X-Plorer but not a Les Paul
