If sugar is 100% sucrose, which is fructose and glucose, and HFCS is also made up of fructose and glucose, what makes HFCS so much worse, in terms of the molecular make-up?
Just for the record, I totally agree with your views, I am just having trouble understanding the difference between Sucrose and HFCS...
@TheWhoisDave Sugar is equally as bad as HFCS. Whenever we confront fructose in nature, i.e., a piece of fruit, we are protected from over-consumption by the presence of the fiber, which limits how much we can eat. Same with sugar...ever try chewing on a stick of sugar cane?! It's natures' way of protecting us. Problem is when we refine and remove the fiber it creates a set up for a major fructose load.
...so if i want to sweeten something what can i use that is safe? is Honey good cuz its all natural. when i buy Honey for my mom i look at the bottle and all it says in the ingredients is "Honey".
if u look at the ingredients of a loaf of whole wheat bread and see high fructose corn syrup and dont see any other refined sugar added, and then u look at the nutrition facts and see that there are 3g of sugar, is that sugar from the HFCS? or just the natural sugar
@iAJ4K87 HFCS! Try to avoid products with HFCS...kind of negates the health benefits of whole grain products...I avoid HFCS like the plague and for that matter, try to have minimal exposure to sucrose which is 50-50 fructose--glucose and really no better. Try to avoid processed garbage and your body will thank you!
@PanDemonIAm777: It doesn't matter if you're 115lbs, been drinking pops all your life, the fact of the matter is by time you're in your 50s it would have taken a toll on you. My gma was in her 50s when she found she had diabetes, and everything went downhill from there just by what he said
The corn used to make, convert the corn to high fructose corn syrup is genetically modified to begin with. GM corn is known now as of, Aug. 2010 to cause scaring of the liver, which can lead to cirrhosis to the liver. Monsanto Corp created Round Up Weed Killer, the weed-killer, pesticide & herbicide are built-in to the corn seed to grow the crops. HFCS has been used in softdrinks since 2004. With a significant rise in childhood diabetes since then. Monsanto owns pharmaceuticals, Bayer & Pfizer.
I been drinking Soda my whole life. Coke from the 4th to 12th grade. Dr Pepper from 12th grade to age 27. Sunkist from 27 to today, I'm 36. At least a six pack a day for the past 15 years. I only weigh 115 and I'm a guy 5 foot 7 inches. Never had any health problems my whole life. And I never been fat. Actually I have 8 percent body fat right now. I Disagree with your opinion in this Video!
Ah, the infallibility of youth! Lucky for you that you're thin and healthy...at least so far to age 36. Unlucky for you that your key building block is processed fructose. Yes, one can be thin and eat a horrible diet as you are an example of, but my honest advice is to be a little smarter...drink water and throw some ice and lemon/lime in it....your body will someday thank you.
@PanDemonIAm777 Yes HFCS causes obesity and you've never had problems with that.. HOWEVER.. this poison is detrimental to your body in other ways as well. You ought to get a liver test just to see. It will catch up to you sooner or later and perhaps obesity won't be the problem, but your body as a whole will have long term damage.
Sorry, but IMO, consuming this processed product is akin to smoking cigarettes...a breach of a healthy lifestyle. And I'm not a PhD, but a MD....and everyday of my life I see the unfortunate and sad consequences of people not taking care of themselves and ending up with unnecessary medical problems brought upon by their poor decisions and poor lifestyle. And yes, part of my medical mission is to set people straight in terms of lifestyle improvement that will benefit their health.
@incontinencedoc there is no evidence to suggest that hfcs is really any worse for you than table sugar. table sugar is 50% fructose and 50% glucose, HFCS is 55% fructose and 45% glucose. Its not like HFCS is pure fructose. The obesity problem in the USA is caused by over-consumption of sweeteners in general. Not HFCS.
@wazzzupdude13 --You are right...table sugar is metabolized to 50/50 glucose/fructose vs the aforementioned ratio for HFCS. I am not advocating using a lot of sucrose! Fructose is a natural compound and is plentiful in many fruits. However, the difference between drinking a soda...liquid candy with a boat load of HFCS vs a piece of fruit with some fructose and glucose but also fiber, phyto-nutrients and anti-oxidants, is substantial.
@incontinencedoc I'm not trying to say that a coke is the same as a piece of fruit. but many people are under the false belief that a coca-cola made with "natural sugar" would be better for you than a coke made with HFCS. in actuality sucrose (table sugar) is just as bad. High fructose corn syrup is just sugar with an image problem.
@wazzzupdude13 Once again, you're correct, HFCS has a marginal increased amnt of fructose over rmetabolized sucrose--essentially table sugar is not very healthy for us, but still carries a better fructose ratio than HFCS. Processing, although essential to make many foods available to us, has created HFCS, partially hydrogenated veg oils, trans fats, and enriched wheat flour, the harmful components of seductive and addictive foods that has made America obese.
Nice vid!

Good video!
Glad that I finally found a video that clearly explained the WHY on HFCS consumption and not simply a buch of scare tactics.

HFCS is mainly competitive because of sugar tariffs and govt subsidies.
