I read JIG investigation report. Question: Why is there no sonar contact evidence that a NK sub was nearby? Surely the torpedo launch, which is very noisy, would have been easily heard by a sonar operator. S.Korea is well aware of NK capability inclding 70 old diesel subs. Why is there no evidence that any of these subs were anywhere near the Cheonan before its sinking? I find it suspicious that wealthy Sth.Korea did not use its anti-sub systems to detect NK subs that time.

Still, my point is, a NK torpedo is inconclusive evidence that it was fired by a NK vessel. If it was, by now, NK would reveal who the culprit was because it is going to cost them billions in lost international aid. For less than 50 SK lives, that is not a very good bargain for NK as millions of them will suffer economically

yes..a launch of a torpedo is very noisy but remember that the shipcrew wasent under red-alert....unfortunately it takes minutes to bring all crewmen to full alert....enough time for a short-range-shot torp to impact.

Now dimensions of motor and propeller with shaft were identical with schematics of motor and propeller with shaft of CHT-02D of N.Korean Torpedo. And explosives from ship and debris were matched. Eagle joint exercise was out of Torpedo range way out. It is fair to say N.K sub fired.
@3021421 The torpedo was not identical. There are five points of major difference when you compare the schematics with the torpedo. The bearing around the propeller is much fatter on the torpedo than it is on the schematics. Four other points of differences. The experts need to check their eyesight because it's obvious to anyone they're different torpedoes and no way are they EXACT copies.

This war exercise, known as "Key Resolve/Foal Eagle" did not end on March 18 as was reported but actually ran from March 18 to April 30.

from a purely military perspective, N. Korea stands no chance in a conventional war. Their equipment is obsolete & man power advantage means little (see desert storm). Our airforce would wipe theirs & navy out within a few days. We would then surgically take apart command & control, & all armor/heavy artillery/air defense / troop concentrations. An armoured thrust with the Korean/US modern tanks would smash through any strongpoints & would reach the capital in under two weeks. Game over.

I just wish they did something more aggressive this time around (unfortunately, more people may die this way, but in the long run, it may save more lives). Get South Korea so upset that war breaks out; we need to remove Kim and reunite the Koreas once and for all. Also get Japan involved so they can "pay back their debt in blood"--this should repair their relations. US doesn't need to be involved--but its nuclear umbrella and potential backing are good insurance in case China tries something.

The schematics and the torpedo are not exact matches. Not even close.
There are 4 points of difference:
1. Hub of the schematic one is much smaller
2. Notch on propeller missing from the rusty torpedo
3. Stabilizers are in front of the separation plate in the schematics, they're at the back of the plate in the torpedo
4. Design of the hubs of propellers are different.
Metal parts & explosives residue of the torpedo were identified by experts as German. North Korea is being set up.

This could be an event to undermine the current SK ruling party so it could be conceivable that it was a political move by some SK group to try to grab some votes. There were 4 US Aegis ships, 1 Ticonderoga ship, 3 Arleigh Burke guided-missile destroyers doing one of the greatest war game exercises ever near the Cheonan when the incident happened. Apparently a Nth Korean sub was able to fire a torpedo at the Cheonan undetected. The Cheonan is also equipped with radar & sonar that can detect a torpedo within a 30-km radius.

I read JIG investigation report. Question: Why is there no sonar contact evidence that a NK sub was nearby? Surely the torpedo launch, which is very noisy, would have been easily heard by a sonar operator. S.Korea is well aware of NK capability inclding 70 old diesel subs. Why is there no evidence that any of these subs were anywhere near the Cheonan before its sinking? I find it suspicious that wealthy Sth.Korea did not use its anti-sub systems to detect NK subs that time.

According to S.Korean military sources SWIFT CURRENTS in the area REDUCED the effectiness of the sonar, allowing only for detection of about 70% of objects within a 2 km radius.

Still, my point is, a NK torpedo is inconclusive evidence that it was fired by a NK vessel. If it was, by now, NK would reveal who the culprit was because it is going to cost them billions in lost international aid. For less than 50 SK lives, that is not a very good bargain for NK as millions of them will suffer economically

NK denies it and no motive for NK to provoke SK since SK provides it economic aid and trade. Take note, torpedoes can also be fired from helicopters, ships, planes and underwater mines. Do not speculate with motive if you do not have corroborating evidence. NK torpedo is just circumstantial evidence.

Now dimensions of motor and propeller with shaft were identical with schematics of motor and propeller with shaft of CHT-02D of N.Korean Torpedo. And explosives from ship and debris were matched. Eagle joint exercise was out of Torpedo range way out. It is fair to say N.K sub fired.

The bearing around the propeller is much fatter on the torpedo than it is on the schematics. Four other points of differences. The experts need to check their eyesight because it's obvious to anyone they're different torpedoes and no way are they EXACT copies.

@andyf10 The propeller is made of aluminium-magnesium alloy. military grade. It's massively corroded in the picture. There is NO WAY that has been underwater for a mere 7 weeks. More like 7 years. Compare to the pictures of the Cheonan propeller, underwater for the same period. You have to look with open eyes and see what is in front of you, and understand when you are being lied to.

from a purely military perspective, N. Korea stands no chance in a conventional war. Their equipment is obsolete & man power advantage means little (see desert storm). Our airforce would wipe theirs & navy out within a few days. We would then surgically take apart command & control, & all armor/heavy artillery/air defense / troop concentrations. An armoured thrust with the Korean/US modern tanks would smash through any strongpoints & would reach the capital in under two weeks. Game over.
