How long did it take you days hours? Just to be able to one hand, just so i know roughly how much progress i'm making? :P thanks great tutorial by the way :)
@MrFailNage I use french franc, year 1964, works just fine for me. But it depends on if you hand is big or small. You can also change your money for dollars.
The best tutorial for me, never made a step between fingers, this explanation helped out alot. It was hard for me to do one cycle, now - no problem. Been trying to do it yesterday for 2 hours with nearly no progress, After this video learned how to do 2 and more cycles in a row pretty fast - and that's just within one hour of tries. Thanks alot, helped out.
Man, I wish I didn't play Arkham City, it's because of Two-Face I'm doing this, never was interested in it before but it just looks awesome.

DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP success DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP success DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP success DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP fuck it.. coin spent.
I learned this on my first try, but I keep feeling like I'm doing it wrong.. I mean, either I am doing it wrong or I'm pretty awesome. I cant do it fast and with more that one coins, but I can do it slow with my right hand. I've done some card tricks and I type pretty fast on my computer so I have alot of control over my fingers so I guess thats why.
This requires alot of patience and free time. On the other hand this is the best thoroughly explained tutorial, im starting to get it after a day of watching this.
I just cant do it without going up with the finger its going to. I cant help it otherwise it wont move or drop lol

@Jamesyoung450 The 10p is what I prefer when using English money. In the video I'm using an American quarter. Any coin is fine as long as it's round and thin. I learned the coin roll using an American half dollar.

It's a shame this video was made at such a low frames per second. Would love to see a 30 fps per second 3d 1080p hd version. You are very good at coin rolling.
@comic1997 I know. It's annoying. I just used the built-in camera on my MBP, and it can't quite keep up with my roiling. It looks a lot better in real life.
Great tutorial, but yeah it really does help once you get the basics of it if you practice without looking at your hand. I am having a little trouble getting it to catch in between my pinky, I guess it is because i am not used to moving my fingers like this. I am sure with a lot of practice it will come. But great video, I am sure I will be doing this a lot during class haha.
Here's an interesting tip you should include. Once you get medicore (able to do it without dropping it, but still extremely slow), if you practice with your eyes closed it helps you build speed because you are working your muscle memory much more than your visual memory. Great video by the way.
Sounds like a very good tip. I'm a big fan of making practice harder than actual execution. It reminds me of the Olympic sprinter who when interviewed about how he was able to reach his record-setting time said: "I practiced in lead boots."
Been practising this in school, my teachers hate me lol Wow you're really good at this, seriously you've mastered it beyond belief, I'm very impressed how long did it take you to get to that stage?
I don't really remember. I just kept practicing over and over again any time I had a quarter or half dollar, and eventually it became easy. The people I've taught it to who practice for a few months have gotten really good! The key is to just keep doing it, refining, going for elegance of movement and smoothness. Slow and smooth is better than fast and choppy. The less the fingers move, the better. There are some people on Youtube who roll the coin fast, but it looks too forced for my taste.
Haha. Yeah I am slowly getting it, I can do a full round now (slowly) but I find my fingers still reaching up to grab it every so often, working on forcing my fingers to not do that. Btw you got yourself the best tutorial on youtube. :)
Hmm ok was just curious. Been doing it for a bit can get most of it at times having trouble with the pinky, I find it hard to slide it down cause the coin sticks to my fingers when trying to slip it down. Would my pinky be too close to my ring finger to make it give too much friction?
Lots of people I've taught it to in person get stuck on the pinky. It sounds like you are pushing on it too much, creating friction. It's really a matter of not forcing it and letting gravity do most of the work. When I'm rolling the coin fast, the pinky is really just guiding the coin as it falls into position. Keep practicing and you'll get it. I spent my freshman year in Latin class dropping the coin on my desk over and over again. I eventually got it. I didn't learn much Latin, though.
Hmm I have difficulty right at the start lol. When I let go with my thumb to make it rest on index, it just falls between my middle and index and I was wondering if double jointed would be a slight disadvantage as my fingers tend to move off at weird angles at times (hence it falling at the start).
I don't think being double jointed is a disadvantage. I think it's just about practicing. If the coin is skipping the index finger, it means that your middle finger has to be up higher. Practicing is hard, and I remember spending lots of time forcing my fingers to do what they need to do. Practice--and paying attention to detail--will pay off!
Has anyone noticed the multiple coin production at the beginning of the video? I meant it to be subtle but am surprised that no one has picked up on it. :/
I think my fingers are too big lol. the quarter just sits on my finger when I lower my middle finger. Should I be doing this with my hand at a slight angle?
awh man my pinkie is gay! its totally out it wants to do its own thing ! .. :( i dont want my hands but im gona keep practising this somthing to show people when im in the bar :P
Here I'm using quarters. I prefer rolling quarters because they are common and big enough to be seen. Truthfully, though, it doesn't really matter what coin you roll. It's all the same thing. When I was first learning, I practiced a lot with half dollars.
Thanks for the tutorial, hopefully the dexterity and fine motor skills I developer from this will help my drawing abilities. -- Though I wish you said something about rolling the coin backwards across the fingers the way it came.
There's no real trick to rolling the coin back up the fingers except LOTS of practice. Just try to mimic exactly what you are doing as the coin goes down--but in reverse. Step the fingers in the other direction. And on the way down, when the coin gets to the pinky, don't go up high, just let the coin touch the pinky and then move the ring finger down to send the coin the other way. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

Wow, this is a damn good tutorial, man. The whole "step the fingers and concentrate on bringing the next one down" immediately helped me out alot. That reverse coin roll looks wicked hard though... Thanks for this!
Thanks, man. I've never heard anyone else talk about stepping the fingers, but as I practiced, I noticed it made a huge difference in allowing for a smooth roll. It makes it easier, plus it looks better cause the fingers aren't moving around all over the place. Ideally, it should look like the coin is floating over the fingers effortlessly--not like you're fingers are struggling to pull the coin. Good luck!
