By the way,i'm not so sure, but i think that the fact that s4 can qualify 6th in GP portugal is a legend.The S4 is amazing fast,but there's no way it can be faster that '86 formula 1 on tarmac. The numbers don't lie. I think Lancia tested the S4 on a short version of the circuit or something similar and from that the "legends" wisper out.

on a circuit, on the Pikes Peak and on the wide and fast roads of those years the group B are definitely the fastest cars on the planet. But in today SS, where you can hardly reach 120km/h average, the wrc are faster, because they benefit from 25 years of development of materials, tires, suspension, and especially electronic...

su un circuito, sulla pikes peak e sulle strade larghe e veloci di quegli anni le gruppo b sono sicuramente le più veloci auto del pianeta. Ma sulle prove speciali di oggi, dove a stento si raggiungono i 120km/h di media, le wrc sono più veloci, perchè traggono vantaggio da 25 anni di sviluppo di materiali, gomme, sospensioni e soprattutto elettronica.....

Non cè nulla da fare, le Gruppo B erano mostri incredibili, ma nessuna macchina lo ha dimostrato come la S4, le idee sviluppate erano 1 passo avanti alla concorrenza, tanto per dire che fino a pochi anni fa (e lo ha detto il grande ingegner Lombardi in un documentario) noi italiani eravamo il meglio come idee e tecnologia, tanto che poi ci hanno copiato... rivedere queste immagini è ogni volta 1 emozione, macchina così sono indimenticabili...

I tecnici Lancia dell'epoca (l'Ing.Lombardi, Cesare Fiorio, etc.) sostengono che una WRC sia più veloce in prova rispetto ai Gr.B, vuoi per l'elettronica, vuoi per i mille controlli di cui sono dotate le WRC. Le Gr.B avevano un'erogazione di coppia e potenza molto brutale e si passava da 0-100 in meno di 3 secondi! Per i piloti, è vero, quelli del passato sono dei mostri e non c'è confronto con quelli di oggi, ma Loeb secondo me è l'unico che regge alla grande il confronto...

both supercharger and turbo ... turbo was on when revving higher and supercharger was on in lower RPM because of high power consumption, I think 20 kW when active in high RPM and when off only 2 kW of engine power ... It was very complicated system, but it had big influence in flat torque curve and no turbo-effect
