Never really liked sports at all, and didn't watch them either. But somehow, I was frequently drawn to the Sports Machine on Sunday nights...the Plays of the Month and Plays of the Year were actually appointment TV for me. I miss this quite a bit.
I searched everywhere and can't find out, what was the name of the music played when they came back from a commercial break and the NFL RoundUp? I know story segments they used music from various movies, like the "Star Wars" opening theme for the Plays Of The Month. But,the other two,I'm dying to know!
i really miss this show, sunday its 11:35 pm and here i am wishing sports machine was still on. it was the best sports show i ever watched, plays of the month and plays of the year were great, along with everything else about the show. thanks for posting this sonic whammy
If it was ' nt for George we would not have Sports Center. He was a true fan of sports and a class act. I liked watching his show because he looked like my Dad. I miss his passion and honest commentating on the games. My heart goes out to the family .
Im not a real sports fan but I was all ears during George's Sports segment. I grew up with NBC 4 news and it's sad that he's no longer with us. He was the truly the best. RIP George Michael.
I had the pleasure to watch George in his early years in DC while I was stationed in Quantico in the USMC. After leaving the DC area and going back to Indiana, it was cool when the Sports Machine became syndicated. RIP, George.
MAN! this guy was the greatest!.....George had such delivery......such energy...and he went and pulled the Sports Machine off of the air because he was worried about NBC laying off people he had worked with for over twenty years. He pulled the show and kept them working....CLASS ACT........He will be sadly missed... Thankyou George.
RIP George. i use to watch the Sports Machine from the late 80's to early 90's when i was a kid. Even though i had to be in bed for school Monday mornings. I couldn't go to sleep without watching George and The Sports Machine late night Sundays. Thank you George for so many memories. God bless.
Wow, couldn't believe it when I read it today. I watched this guy as a kid and was mesmerized every time. This guy was a consummate pro every time. R.I.P. George.
RIP George...Grew up watching him as did most of us, on the TV. A contributer in and outside of the local DC market, Mr. Michael was one of the best broadcasters in this area RIP
the sports machine kept me up to date with american sport here in new zealand mind you had to wait late at night till after all sports news was done usually on friday evening or late on a sunday evening, very enjoyable
This show was one of the last sports shows for the serious sports fan who was knowledgeable and intelligent, unlike the crap they through on now with all the talking heads....and laughing like a bunch of jackasses

"Tonight, through the use of the Sports Machine..."
I love how he referred to the Gorilla as "brother" with 100% no malice whatsoever.
