@R99MELI Actually, Mark is playing with his 50s' Gibson Les Paul on this song (and all others version of Brothers in Arms) and not the Fender Stratocaster/ John Suhr Guitars he uses on most of his songs.
mandela is definitiley great like anything mark knopfler and/or dire straits but mandela is played on his custom mk strat body...they song is designed and mostly played on a les paul even though he is mostly a strat guy
"On the night" is a better version in my opinion, but the very best ever played is the one at Mandela Stadium Live 1988. There is one video with a little better sound. It doesn't get any better than that. God bless Knopfler and Dire Straits :)
It's very rare, I think, to be reminded of our collective stupidity in such an elegant, beautiful way as this. Were that conflicts between nations and other acts of violence be equally rare.
there are very few musicians having a melodic sense so they play the right tone at the right place at the right time with the right intensity. Mark Knopfler is such a musician same as Finbar Furey in Folk or B.B. King and Peter Green in Blues.
All those high speed guitar pickers are just small people.
@TheMindfreak86 This is superior to On the Night as this was at the height of Dire Straits' game right here. The pedal steel on OTN ruined it and also Mark's Les Paul was absent. Terry Williams' drumming is more energetic here than that Chris Whitten who sounded wooden. Also I prefer how it ends here with the repeat of the intro with the energetic drums and the final drum roll during the F sharp which stops cold and Mark utters "thank you we love you" and BANG with an ending like Gods opening.
I've never had a song in my life touch me the way this one has. I honor all of our solders, not just on 9/11, but every day. A part of my heart will always be with them. LOVE SEAN POOLE
In Palestine EVERY DAY for more than 50 years .. who's killing people EVERY DAY ? who taking there land EVERY DAY ? who's carrying guns against women & children & who's carrying rocks & stones ? who's riding armored tanks in the streets & who's walking with a cane EVERY DAY ? who's destroyed the schools & buildings EVERY DAY ? who's making concrete borders walls EVERY DAY ? who's destroying homes & burning farms EVERY DAY ?
@MOONyMAN24 hahaha that's what I call being narrow minded! Don't hate israël they are just living people just like you and I are.. You can hate barbarians extremists whatever where they come from or what they believe in
PS : i'm moroccan and muslim
PS2 : this is a song don't mix music and art with war and politics.. it's not like it was meant to promot sionism so again GET A GRIP.. and not being the uploader have nothing to do with this
@MOONyMAN24 haha :) ana maghribi wa la9ad 20 sana bildar albayda2, ana muslim ka aghlabiat al nass alati ta3ich hona fi lmaghrib.. it's because of haters like you that islam get misunderstood.. it always claimed love and peace remember the time when Islam was expending, muslims did tolerate jew people among them... but I guess YOU don't know that much about Islam, I'm muslim and I had to go through quranic education and even had to study Islam as a main course at school so who's the bad talker?

@salim1975ful How so? "We were fools to make war on our brothers..."
Sounds consilitatory to me. i.e. exactly the opposite of the Devil's idea of war.

Mandela´s version is the best by far, next is "On the night" version.
This version has a nice ending especially after 6,15.

@TheMindfreak86 I second that. Yet to find a better live performance than brothers in arms "on the night". Thats the best I've seen by any musician
