  • Great demo and explanation! My next DIY lap steel will be a copy of a New Yorker, but not sure which model yet. These are lovely vintage instruments. Thanks Fred!

  • Thank you for the very informative video. I just found one of these at a thrift shop. The SN is 4156G so My guess is 1942 vintage.

An amphenol to 1/4" adaptor was available on eBay. Can't wait to plug it in.

    An amazing instrument.

  • i notice the first national you played had the old round connected cable- does your other end have a 1/4 inch jack that allows you to plug into your amp- and if so can u point me in the direction of getting one of those cables. or what they might be called- thank you very much

  • This is very cool stuff .. makes me feel like a little kid again for some reason ... loved this vid .. im glad i watched .

  • where can i get a fretboard like that? with roman numbers, that was awesome!

  • nice playing dude. J

  • a person like me experimenting with alternate tunings has never thought of any open MINOR chords. i really like the eerie sound. thanks for the inspiration and keep up the good work!

  • Nice!

  • ...and accidentally kill and injure people!!! Really! Don't be careless about safety.

  • If you dropped guitars on doorsteps, they would break into a million pieces.

  • that what the best "what if..." I've ever heard. it sure would be nice. imagine dropping guitars on doorsteps and not bombs.

  • Fred,

You have a very cool approach to the lap steel, and set yourself apart from so many soundalikes.

What is the song you're playing on the 1937?

    Gminor tuning (D G D G Bb D) ?

  • Thanks! I'm playing some bits and bobs I've come up with, none of which are finished songs as yet. You got the tuning right.

    Fred
