The public option does NOT increase competition and does NOT decrease costs or the deficit. The reason being because as people flock to the public option (subsidized by the government -> you the taxpayers), insurance companies will go out of business, more people will join the public option and then it will finally be the only option. Single-payer does not work. Quality of care will be replaced by taxpayer care for everyone. Responsibility replaced by entitlement. It never works.

@Soothfish I didn't say the Canadian system is perfect, trust me I know better. BUT we don't get turned away from ER's and will get help if we need it. The problem comes with respect to waiting lists for major surgeries and I definitely think we need some improvements. I'm a socialist but I don't see why the medical sector can't have a private option; it would increase efficiency and enable those with means to get help so that they could free up resources for those without.

If it was up to me you should be able to get whatever insurance you want from anyone you want. The only gov't role should be the normal consumer protections, This way you get the highest quality at a low price.

They can stick their base in the state with the least regs and costs and not pass the savings onto customers because if all are playing by the same rules, then every insurance company wins.

@Soothfish I didn't say the Canadian system is perfect, trust me I know better. BUT we don't get turned away from ER's and will get help if we need it. The problem comes with respect to waiting lists for major surgeries and I definitely think we need some improvements. I'm a socialist but I don't see why the medical sector can't have a private option; it would increase efficiency and enable those with means to get help so that they could free up resources for those without.

Does it equal lower taxes? No. But in the end, what you pay in taxes may end up being less than what is paid in insurance, and it may cover more people.

Last, your company picks the insurance, not you, so i dont even get what your talking about. Unless you make a big enough amount of money to afford expensive individual healthcare, your only choice is what your company offers, and businesses arent always known for making the best long term decisions.
Basically, whats cheapest isnt always whats good, but you wont have a say in that, company execs will, that dont care so much about anytihng but bottom dollar

If theres 20,000 avaible insurance companies to choose than those companies must compete by lowering cost and offering better quality and if you get insruance thru work than they will take advantage of that for the "bottom line:"

How much regulation will you accept on a federal level, or do you think states should have some control of how businesses can act in their state?
The exchange promoted by the whitehouse is to facilitate cross state commerce, which is part of the feds job, but repubs are against that also.

Not sure why youre hung up on states rights, you still have states rights and buy insurance from another state. But as long as the state doesnt interfer enough to cause the same problems as we have had with the federal laws. The only thing better than federal rights is state rights and the only thing better than state rights is individual rights. Our gov't has seem to forgotten that or they have never read the constitution.

I wasn't racebaiting and I'm certainly no obamabot. I have helped out in numerous Republican campaigns. Despite the fact that the GOP has, in my opinion, lost its way I continue to support fiscal conservatism and individual liberties. The person I was talking to made a clear reference to their dislike of the fact that Cenk looked "too ethnic". Also, the person I was talking to has left other evidence on their own videos and comments that show their racism. Think first, then type.

MSNBCs news portion does not incorporate left wing talking points the way fox does.

No.. they fired Donahue because he was considering to be a 60s generation anti -war activist. It's not that it is wrong to be that but it wasn't just for criticizing the war. They felt it would decrease the appeal to the audience if they kept him on. By the way, they use one very early morning show on MSNBC to prove they aren't liberal? This is a dumb example, Colmes was on Fox.. does that make it not right wing?
