It states on the regular can of Poly that you should use a brush. The Wipe on can states that you should use a cloth. I think the wipe on poly is thinner. You could also get a scrap piece of wood and try it.

Does it have to be a wipe on polyurethane to use the cloth and cotton ball technique?
