I wonder if the Soviet guy started an all-out brawl took place when the alien left at the end; that was a pretty big "I told you so" from the USSR guy!
Why would the USSR guy say something like "prove it"....it wasn't like there were demands. They were told they would die, that's all. If you don't believe it, that's great. It makes sense after the U.S. guy asks for time and they have to start working together...or so they think.
He said they raised them for "finer things" than war. Then he says they misunderstood him when they all negotiate peace? It's like an alien that came from a planet filled with Wall Street felons. And if they've been "monitoring" them all the time, why didn't they just step in and say, "No, we meant FIGHT one another!"
@kitsa42 Well, he notes how pathetic the methods of war, and lack of clear victory are, so "finer things" could be understood to mean much more advanced war. He was clear from his biased point of view. If they took it another way, they were doomed in his eyes anyway. "Where is their warrior spirit?" he would think.
@takky9298 The Rickroll guy is Rick Astley. Hence why they call it being "Rickrolled". The actor who plays the alien in this is called John Glover. He has been in loads of movies and tv shows but this generation will probably know him as Lionel Luthor from Smallville.
the alien ambassador looks and acts much like The Chancellor in the episode "The Obsolete Man" from the original Twilight Zone series (i know it's not really him, just saying).
Bit hamfisted. Why would an ambassador speak in riddles, and it sure is coincidental that Haley's Comet (appearing once every ~75 years) happened to appear on that day
That's me with the moustache at 5:07 in the left hand side facing right. It was a fun shoot, got to meet and work with John Glover, he's the one who plays the alien and a great actor who has been in a lot of great roles since this was shot, a little bit of trivia, all this was shot at the Sunkist building in the San Fernando Valley.
@warningfellow It was meant to be ironic. Science fiction, good science fiction is supposed to make you think. The idea of this episode was to turn the concepts of war and peace, right and wrong on its head. So you might consider the problem from another point of view.
Short, and to the point. If it were 25 minutes long, it would have been a shaggy dog story, but they did it in 8, which was the exact right amount of time needed. Excellent. I really like this one.
The one problem with this one is that the alien has no motive to talk to the humans. Would have been a bit better if he had appeared to offer the last chance.
I envisage a similar scenario when I present a proposal to my employers next month that involves them not pointing us all in the direction of the Job Centre.
According to Wikipedia- written by Alan Brennert and Carl Scholz. My other favorites are Nightcrawlers and To See the Invisible Man. This series is SciFi junkie heaven- go see it
The alien is wearing a Vera Wang costume.

This has always made me laugh! It's also a perfect counter to the absurdity of "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

@newguy33X You know, I've always wondered that myself. Just what the hell was the USSR guy thinking? What the hell was he trying to prove?

Isn't the alien the guy you see when you've been Rickrolled? Well, he's some 80's glam rocker anyway.

They sure are judgemental, intolerant, and authoritarian for a supposedly advanced species.

@charlesvan13 Yeah, but they don't claim to be anything but. They don't even accept the premise that those are bad qualities in a species.
