This will always remind me of Hampton Institute's (now University) marching band. They had this song down!! That intro would reverberate throughout the whole campus. Golden days.
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SUPERGROUP!! Thanks for sharing this song and leaving on the interlude on the end! Now you must be a true EW&F fan of TRUE MUSIC.
earth wind and fire make up the earth a place i've lived since my birth i dont care for what is wrong when i hear this groups song lyrics are magic, rythym in my head listen to this music from morning to bed everything in the world is right with a group thats led by maurice white so dance your legs off, move to the groove and like this band just show your move from the very first listen until i retire i will groove to earth wind and fire
It's unfair to say these guys were ahead of their time, most bands from that era were within the time...us as a humble dont know a fuck people have went backwards instead of forwards.....still...EW&F are up there.
these guys were ahead of the game. they knew that tha black man were once kings and had thrones and crown even then they tried to teach the truth. dont know how many got it. we might be free physicly but still slaves in the mind.
Ah. I see what you did there. I think the local ABC affiliate where I grew up used to use this track back in the '70's and maybe even into the early-to-mid '80''s on Saturday nights as the theme to their overnight movie of the week or whatever it was.
Man you talk about being lifted into another realm WOW. When I see Jesus face to face one of the things I'll ask is what was it about the 70's. That era was something very, very sanctified and super special. The crowning jewel musically was EWF God granted them celestial vision and musical substance for His divine purposes. There were good groups, there were great groups and then there was and is EWF. Thank you Lord for sharing them with us through out the years,
earth wind and fire, and chicago are like cousin bands in my opinion, from the second city, sort of like the Jackson Five and The Osmond Brothers were. Earth wind nd fire and chicago fared well, whereas The Jacksons eventually skyrocketed past a successful Osmond group, brcause of Michael. Too bad that you gotta go to youtube to find real music, because it ain't on radio, anymore.

Definately a classic. My mom's high school band played this as an opener in the mid 80's and my high school band is playing it as our opener this year.
I love that "Yeeeeaaaahh !!!!" by Maurice White just at the end of it, when the music stops, before the short instrumental piece begins..... as if he was saying "Good work, guys, we've got a classic". And hell yes they have :-)
o m g i'm 19 yrs old again! I wouldn't go back again for a big clock........................ however if I could go back but with this mature brain I wonder what different/ better choices I would make ????
Anyone know the esoteric meaning behind their album cover? Im guessing it represents the 12 disciples or inner disciplines and the sun represents the inner light within you? Just guessing... PeAcE
This has to be the greatest intro to a song ever written .Earth ,Wind and Fire was miles ahead of their time and all other groups from their generation. This is music at it's very best cuz it's written ' In the Stone"!!
@Socaman20 yeah.-and its written and played by Jerry Hey and his hard working hornplayers...they played on most of the hits you heard in the 70s 80s and 90s...salute to Jerry Hey, Bill Reichenbach, Gary Grant, Chuck Findley and Larry Williams, the Finest horn section that the world have seen, and no doubt the most recorded from now on into infinity..
@IRONMANHONDO87 Actually, the horns on here (and a number EWF late 70's hits) are NOT the Phenix horns. It's composer Jerry Hey and the Seawind Horns.
@hankaaron1961Yes. This I know. But either way, you must agree that it was the best, if not hte best horn section in the history of modern day rhythm & blues. And there were a lot of groups with great horn sections. Kool & the Gang, Chicago, Ides of March, KC. & the Sunshine Band. The list goes on. But yet, Earth Wind & Fire (Jerry Hey and the Seawind Horns) will always be the standard that will have set the the bar. Maybe that's why the music of today is of the sub-stanard that it is.
@soulgirlKC So True, So True! Back in the late 70s (when I was at the age of 4 and 5), I used to sing to these joints when my Dad would put them on the record player. To this day, I can HONESTLY say, there is NO ONE that can even hold 12 candles to E,W,F - NO ONE! This is my FAVORITE E,W,F jam with "Show Me The Way" with modern genius Raphael Saadiq my second favorite.
I cannot express how deeply this song touches me, I literally can see 1979 in my mind when I hear this song and I get a warm feeling all in my spirit.....Nobody better sleep on Earth Wind and Fire they are absolutely without a doubt one of the best bands of that era. (II)
