Nokia Lumia 800. The designer's story.

Nokia concentrated to much on the Nokia Lumia 800 design and paid less attention to the audio quality, camera, and the speaker. Now Nokia are releasing an update to fix the audio quality, camera but 4 months and counting and yet no update yet (just like always) so maybe the update will come around end of year?

HTC used to make really good looking phones back when they were making Windows Mobile phones, the one before Windows phone 7. But now their new phones are just either plain or straight up ugly. Especially the back covers of HTC phones are really ugly because they have those oversized cameras.

I have this phone, admittedly there are a few 'bugs' like - not having some of the apps that iphone or android has. and sometimes it can glitch, i have an alarm not sound a few times. etc..but it's minor, I love this phone. I have got the nokia and monster beat headphones for it as well, and they are quality. Great design, welcome back Nokia.

Just picked up Lumia 800 last night. Nokia lost their way since N73 days with Symbian, but Lumia 800 feels like holding 3210 for the first time in around the year 2000. Welcome back Nokia, I missed you.

Nokia please don't steal the design of your N9 device. You can try to hide the N9 as much as you want but it's still the better phone. And the curved glass is made for and fits perfectly Meego/Maemo 6 Harmattan and it's Swype-interface (like you said by yourself earlier this year) - BUT not Windows Phone! Keep putting Millions of $ into a phone which is just a cheap copy of the N9... But you sound almost convincing, good try.

@vin07mz It actually all make sense with the design. The meego and WP 7 all relies heavily on swiping. And with the same principle, it really makes the UI makes true sense. The curve glass makes it easier to swipe from live tiles to menu.. This is an awesome phone. Will be getting it.

Nokia always has a great design but unfortunately for nokia fans, the operating system makes the phone and its apps. They have a lot of other things to work on like the camera, they are always known for camera. Why did Nokia make a crappy camera? So irritating,. But I do like that nokia is finally trying to comeback into smartphone market. Thank god, they got rid of symbion, it made me hate nokia. Overall, its a good start and hopefully they will keep making it better.

what's up everyone, i knew this phone was similar to n9 design but that's just nokia's fault. however, that doesn't mean nokia cannot make further improvements on their product. they need all of your developing comment not just some haters. personally i think this phone is great. good display and handy compare to n9 body. furthermore, wp7 mango is another great os so far. you still may download great apps and games from it. used to be an android user, but tons of noobs apps makes it boring.

@EagleDnB it sure u can probably do it to this phone, seeing how as my father had some type of Htc phone with windows 7 and he loaded android 2.3 on the device... also when he restarts the entire phone he had the option to choose what os to load example windows or android before use and off he when.. pretty cool so he could enjoy both worlds....

As an engineer, working with industrial designers can sometimes be a pain in the rear. But when you get this great harmony of engineering and design, you get something pretty special. Nokia seemed to have that with the N9, but the Lumia 800 seems to have been a rush job, missing the front-facing camera and the NFC support.

The only flaw is this is the absence of a front-facing camera... which could be potential deal-breaker for many people. I am going to wait longer for a newer model with front-facing camera.

Its not the Nokia hardware that is the problem, it is the software they have been using, and I really don't see Windows as the answer. Nokia and Windows are trying to enter an already crowded market place and they are asking people to pay hundreds of $ to use the Windows software. Why would people who have already spent hundreds of $ on apps for Android, iOS or BBOS spend hundreds of $ more on the same apps to run on Windows phones?

In my opinion, Nokia should have gone with Android.

@southparkgeek12 you have no idea what works has gone behind it. Windows doesn't run on phones, it's a brand new OS which happens to be the fastest OS around. That's why WP doesn't need 1GB Ram to run like android and is faster with single core than android is with double. I suggest that you do some research test this nokia and then feel free to post again here your honest opinion.

The designers at Nokia actually use the big iMacs and MacPros like a the majority of designers and sound engineers do. For this video, they had remove all of them and set up PCs. The reason is obvious: Nokia runs Windows.

I used wp7 when it first came out, I actually used it almost 3 times on a range of htc handsets, and the os is smooth, clean and modern, but the handsets were anything but, they had poor battery life, poor camera quality and they heated up too soon. I've used alot of nokia handsets and just recently the n9, so beautiful but I need apps and this one the lumina 800, is really the first wp7 handset that'll introduce people the the new windows phone. :-M

@amztvs its a single core phone, doesn't compete with the iPhone 4S (Dual Core).. specially apps, support, popularity,price...The screen resolution is lower than the iphone4.. keep in mind the windows phone 7 is a new OS with low popularity and many bugs.. it will not compete with iOS5 by any ways .. stay safe with apple than sorry with nokia and microsoft. take care.
