Love Lance Berkman and always find his testimony and openness to express his faith (without being pushy) encouraging. These comments just highlight how hard that can be at times. He lives it out (see below, and it doesn't include $ to church).
Celebrity donors: 1. Oprah Winfrey ($41,400,000) 2. Nora Roberts ($4,450,000)
3. Meryl Streep and Donald Gummer ($4,000,000) 4. Jami Gertz and Tony Ressler ($2,908,737) 5. Lance and Cara Berkman ($2,109,284)
@xDGKSNIPERx12@xDGKSNIPERx12 No one knows who really wrote the bible. It is the most random and unhelpful book ever. Do a google search. Do not just take my word for it. The biggest problem is that people do "just take the bible's word for it". Free your brain. Learn about what's real. Do not be held captive by bronze age war god following people who thought the earth was the center of the universe.
So... God gave you the World Series win, but kills 8 million children every year in the world? How convenient for you. Glad you weren't born in Africa. Moron.
@MissThinkabunch, I see the problem... The video is about Berkman, and it includes his belief system. If it were about you, it would include your belief system. Lance is free to stand up for his belief system. You are free to stand up for yours; do not criticize others for standing up for theirs. If a human being is involved, their belief system is a fair question- sports, politics, business, etc. This is not about you.
If a human being is involved, their belief system is a fair question.
I completely disagree. For many people their faith is central to their lives and what they draw upon for strength, focus, and action. If it works for them, it can work for others. He was asked about his faith. He responded. To me it's wrong of people to expect Christians to keep silent about their faith. I applaud Lance for standing up for his faith.
His faith is a key component of his life, as it is for many players. As he said, without the eternal perspective, baseball is just a meaningless game.....
@CREDO777777 Baseball is just a meaningless game whether one has an eternal perspective or if one finds that there is no evidence for an afterlife or a god. A lot of things people do are meaningless. People can enjoy the meaningless things in life, just know that they are meaningless.
@CREDO777777 Swinging an object made of carbon to get another object made of rubber or cork wrapped in yarn and covered in leather to fly far is ultimately a pointless thing to do. If people enjoy doing it and enjoy watching it, that is just fine.
@CREDO777777 . These baseball players have a lot of practicing to do, which takes up a lot of time. That is the excuse they have for not looking into the background of the Judeo-Christian, primitive and desert tribal based text written by people with less than a lot of reason.
@CREDO777777 I wish that the baseball players would please keep their non-thinking to themselves. We should be teaching children and adults to think critically and not to "just believe" or "have faith". I do not blame the baseball players, they are only doing the best they can.
Can we have separation of church and sports, please? Not everyone is a christian who likes baseball. I am an atheist and would like to watch a baseball team without seeing a youtube video about what faith a player has. Go ahead and have your faith. Just, please do not promote it publicly.
@MissThinkabunch It seems a bit hypocritical that you don't want to hear about others' religious opinions then proceed to profess yours. Maybe I just want to want to watch a video without hearing why people should or shouldn't believe something and why they're stupid for what they believe.
@ClarkWise "We should be teaching children and adults to think critically and not to "just believe" or "have faith"." So we should not teach children and adults to question everything? We should just accept magical answers of talking snakes? Accept that a lady named eve did something "bad" and that we are all "sinners"? This seems less than reasonable. Let's say you make it to this place called heaven.
@ClarkWise Would you really be able to enjoy it knowing that people, out of no fault of their own, are suffering eternally because of some stupid thing they did during life? What about people who grew up in abusive households? I am not mad at a god that doesn't exist. There is no evidence that a heaven or hell exists.
@ClarkWise All I am asking is that you please think and look into the beliefs that you may have or that famous people are promoting. Are they healthy? Do they promote thinking? Or do they promote the blind following of antiquated ways of understanding our beautiful and wonderful cosmos?
@MissThinkabunch You miss my point. I did not disagree with anything you say. I'm just pointing out that, by your own suggestion, this is not the place to be saying it.
