How do hit your channel , still i see what i saw before .Dont get me wrong , what you doing is great ,you found the recepie . I know how the Harrier VTOL , And frankly you have done it . But you got make it look like AV-8 not just a stick ,lol
@arcdirect um, says in the description, that is skymaster's prototype. want to see an AV-8 flying, hit up my channel. there's one flying right there as my default video. and it's not made by skymaster. cheers
This is incredibly impressive. One only has to understand how much development the flying bedstead took to get it half stable to understand what these guys have done.
Cool, are the specs available anywhere, I sure would like to try and build one. I'd like to know the weight balance frame specs and the speed of it's forward thrust for flight conversion? How would you even control the conversion? Would you need a whole new cicuit board for it, and whens is that gonna be available?
that is exellent!!! dont give up and leave it at that just because it flies, make it happen, it could make you a lot of money as a kit or a one off????????????
There is no way in hell they will be able to make an R/C harrier that can do a vertical takeoff, transition to forward flight, slow down and then land verticaly.
Well if the plane is big enough then I'm sure they can make an R/C harrier. Problem is their gonna have to really calibrate everything well otherwise its a bust!!!
When the airplane attempts to slow down for a Vertical landing, The drag combined with the low airspeed entering the props is going to cause a stall which will drop this thing like a rock.
I think what needs to happen is the puffer jets on the windtips need to be rotatable - this way, the aircraft only has to maintain vertical flight abilities and the wingtips will provide a small amount of stability as well as forward thrust - maybe even backwards too.
Great Job! I agree about the Gyros. With a bit of practice, it looks like you've got it down, but with gyros you would not have to constantly make the small corrections your having to now. Just a thought. Good Luck! would love to see the skinned, rotating, model.
I think you should scrap the Harrier idea and build a LEM. Use that platform for practice. When you're done with that call NASA and thell them you want to go to the moon.
Well done on that. Quiet eerie I reckon, you could be looking at the flying bedstead/testbed for the rolls royce kestrel all those years ago. Keep it up.
@blazian1011 the vtol seems to be worked out but you have not demonstrated any transition to normal flight. I know you can't do that without some aerodynamics but it would be nice to see this done with that feature.
This is Skymaster's prototype. It is the first prototype "airframe". The kit is already ready to go into the market. They were just working out teh turbine dynamics. But note, I get a lot of rude comments from stupid people on a lot of my video's. So I have to filter them. The dumbest one's are Where can I buy these. Answer is simple to even stupid people, go to an RC hobbie shop. So, i was quick to think your comment was one of those.
Very true, but I don't have a lathe. Was looking for 1 a few weeks a go, also said to myself buying a lathe and then building a turbine from scratch is a plus, but am not sure on the specs and electronics is another thing. The truth is am not so experienced with the turbines. I needed a book on them and yes did find 1 but, back to buying the lathe the ones I found was a bit big and would take to much room. Even watched some videos on building 1. Thanks again.
Hi i did go the the sky master site and some very impresive Jets there. So I guess EDF is a no no for now. Man Turbine is the go I know but cant afford it right now, wish I could though. Anyway thanks for your fast responce and will keep in touch for up dates and hope to see the final AV-8B Harrier in flight...
you can build a turbine for rc jets for just a few hundred dollars. the main thing you need is a lathe, and the stainless steel needed. a good mechanical aptitude is needed though. it's not difficult if you already know what your doing.
the batteries it would take to power a severely over powered electric motor, would make it not possible at this time. you are talking more then a 1:1 thrust ratio. even the most advanced edf's cannot come close to it at all, except for the midget park flyers.
Wow. Are the engines fully articulately or the ducts? Do you think they will sell the servos for the articulation? I'm working on a TurboKat project which would need two independently articulated ducts (two in the front and one in the back). Eitehr way I look forward to seeing the fuselage completed. Ooh Rah!
if you go to skymasterjet. com / news.htm and go down towards the bottom of the page, you will see the kit they are developing. the kit itself is done and ready to go. only thing left, is perfecting the flight control systems, as you see in this video. it is 1:6 scale, 94" length, 65" span. caio
nope, not a fake. it's being made by Skymaster. This aircraft itself is already done and ready for mainstream production. The turbine mechanics had just been being fine tuned.
actually, that is the average size of an rc jet. as for available, dunno. i know 6 months ago the aircraft kit itself was done and ready for production, and they were just work on what you see here.
if anybodys interested in is what is known as a 'flying bedstead' built and tested in Hucknall Notts in the UK (its at the science museum now) paved the way in vtol technology
if it could fly forward and backwards like a plane it would be cool. otherwise, its just basically does the same job as a helicopter.

That funny, you build a model and make it fly for under $300... The gov kills a bunch of pilots trying to make one fly after spending millions.

EDF stands for Electric Ducted Fan. Basically, it's a propeller in a form-fitting tunnel to concentrate airflow.

That was 'flying' over 50 years ago. We could hear it running in our school classroom about 3 miles away :)
RR favoured separate lift engines but Bristol Engines (now part of RR) produced the Pegasus vectored thrust system which powers the BAE Harrier.
This is very impressive. Hats off to the pilot and the designer. I'm looking forward to see the completed model in the air.
