  • @timmeh1507 Actually, I take back my old comment, having rung here today, the go wasnt particularly good, the 3 & 6 were nasty to ring, but I quite like their old-style sound!!

  • @simonbellringer they are kinda in the 'so bad they're awesome' category...

  • @timmeh1507 You could be right... Mind, I have a peverse liking for Wroughton's bells, so I dont have particularly high standards sound-wise!!

Still, I draw the line at St John-on-the-Wall (vid coming very soon!!)

  • @simonbellringer Hmm St John on the Wall I think are a bit better than these (still not great). I love old-style bells if they sound good, and often they do. Are you saving up for a good camera??

  • @timmeh1507 Decent camera is certainly on the next Christmas list!! Trust me, I dont particularly like having the worst vids on YouTube, but hey, theyre better than none, and in some cases (eg Christ Church SWINDON) I just want to give you a little taster of what they are ACTUALLY like... you really need to actually need to get up and go to CHrist Church with a GOOD band to appreciate Taylor's finest...

  • @timmeh1507 And you asked about the camera? Well, I might be having a new one very soon... Watch this space!! I have an outing to South Wilts coming up, will recapture East Knoyle's bells, plus Chilmark (which I couldnt take at the time,) then a heavy 6 at Semley, the 3rd heaviest 8 in the world at Westbury, and a couple of others, which Im sure my current camera will murder...

  • @simonbellringer that is good to know! I've not rung anywhere in Wilts and you are filling a geographical gap there which others on here don't cover so it's useful. I've been trying to replace some of my earlier ones with new ones on the camera I got last August, it's a pretty good one and wasn't too expensive.

  • @timmeh1507 Well, glad you enjoy them, despite the crap quality!! Swindon is a well-based area for a ringing week in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire!!

  • @simonbellringer Sometimes I can listen to supposedly awful rings of bells and really like them... it didn't happen at Cjhrist Church. St John on the Wall are slightly better than ChristChurch in my opinion, but again theyre not extremely rewarding.

  • @irkibby And I think Christ CHurch are more rewarding than St John!! I quite liked these sound, and you dont have to work St Johns to produce a reasonableish noise on them...

  • @irkibby Having relistened to this a couple of months after coming, I think that these do sound slightly awful, but at the same time they are, for some people (me!!) they sound kind of likeable, albeit in a very old-style, Rudhall-kind of way!! Latton are similar, though the "go" means you dont waste your energy listening to them!!

  • Not the greatest sounding bells, but on the up side the ringing was good

  • @louisisyourgod I agree, they need retuning by the sound of it! What are they like to ring?
