  • EX-5 sounds like solo from "Lost not forgotten"

  • is the first demonstration improvised or is it a song?

  • @duffieman123

Animate inanimate, from john petrucci solo album.

It's a really great song, the exercise part is the backing guitar on the song.

  • At 4:00 his face is like "well, now i'll do it like a human"

  • after he plays each exercises, he looks at the camera, and he does look like 'im going to kill you' XD

  • yo hago el ex-1 a la misma velocida ^-^ xD

  • very clean guitar don't u think? :S

  • Scientists at the Large Hadron Collider - (worlds largest and highest-energy particle accelerator) recently discovered that wiring an EBMM BFR F1 into the main synchrotron increased the energy of opposing protons over 500%!

They also surmised that if Petrucci himself was to then play crunch tone through this guitar it would reveal the existence of the Higgs boson! However it would also collapse higher time dimensions into ours, killing everything... that would be one Dramatic Turn Of Events..

  • Whats the first song called? that is played in the intro

  • @hellsSG

The song in the intro is "Damage Control" from John Petruccis solo album "Suspended Animation".

  • wait a second, he is playing stuff from suspended animation over 5 years before its release? this was before six degrees of inner turbulence according to this video.

  • PUTOOOOOOO

  • @eugehell Groseroo! IUGH

  • this is wonderful.. lick

  • what song is demonstration 1 ?

  • @ElDondro It's animate inanimate from John Petrucci, a wonderful song !

  • i like the way he says "a very special DVD" in the beginning

  • trying to play the full speed version of these riffs is just bad for my confidence

  • Jesus got a haircut.

  • Mystic Dream Exercise Kick Ass!

  • can anyone make a tab for me ?? from 1:53-2:11 tnx a lot ..if you do...please send it ot my email (Inthislife_211@yahoo.com) tnx

  • @xXZORDICXx First, buy his solo album, Suspended Animation, so you can figure out the title of the song so you can just google tabs or go buy the suspended animation tab book.

  • @xXZORDICXx Damage Control - Suspended Animation - John Petrucci

  • @xXZORDICXx just figure it out urself , if you cant hear the notes and find them on ur guitar thats a problem, it will be way easier to play if you can find the notes yourself

  • @JamesOnPiano Two words: Mesa, Boogie.

  • @YtseJam16 haha Agreed.

  • @YtseJam16 One word: GOD

  • this is also called animate/inanimate

  • 5:34 "how do you like THAT note?"

  • kenny powers!

  • what´s the introriff?

  • @davidkomianos paradigm shift by liquid tension experiment

  • @davidkomianos it's actually "Damage control" by his solo album.

  • I Love Petrucci

  • from 1:51-2:25 what song is that from?

  • @CavemanJesus4Life haha idk man but its killer huh

  • @CavemanJesus4Life @riprandy318 The song is "Animate-Inanimate" from his solo album "Suspended Animation

  • @1337RaysoRb thanx a mil, Im going to buy it now

    **thumbs up**

  • @RJiminez51 Some like music with complexity, some seek soul in music. You have to respect John Petrucci.

  • @RJiminez51 Technique building isn't going to be soulful, and isn't meant to be. It will, however, help you express yourself later. A fast legato can have just as much feel as a sweet vibrato if you know how and when to use it, but you have to know how to play it first, and that takes practice to be able to do right. Feel will always be subjective anyway, I don't get much from B.B. King's playing, and you probably don't understand why some "metal" solos give me chills, it's just how it is.

  • @JoshFischl ^This.

  • @JoshFischl Right, coz the one who's objective is only the guitar itself..

  • @JoshFischl i think technique is to be abel to play the music you hear in your head :)

  • Im not watching a DVD

  • 5:15 Glass Prison solo!

  • To some of you idiots,it is all preference !!!

  • He plays better than his his good looks. Just love him more...

  • he is a great player but way to fuckin fast to teach me licks..god damn!

  • @Senlocc play them slow, lol... or put them into piece on practice each one. That's how I long songs, solos etc.

  • @Sivels thanks bro... advice is always appreciated with me ...god bless :)

  • @stevemorseFB you have never seen Jeff Loomis before have you?

  • Petrucci is the best guitarist in the world !!!

    Fuck Steve Vai !!!

  • Comment removed

  • 8:00 he nods like

oh yeah i know im good

  • he even has perfect tone when he is exercising

  • He should'nt cut his hair.

  • very special '""""DVD"""""" IRONIC

  • 2:23 "if you play this i'll kill you" look

  • What is the name of the song what the video start with? (The very first)

  • @Adam92326 Damage Control

  • @vbdude006 Thanks man!

  • hell i can do that

  • how do u get access to the tabs that come with the dvd?

  • Haha those chromatic excercises are hilarious, seriously.

  • So...disappointed ....when I didn't hear the psycho exercises voice...

  • What a fucking tank!!

  • When i saw petrucci with this guitar on show,he was having tunning problems,he was frequently tunning the guitar even in the middle of the song.

  • Petrucci monstruo !!!!!

  • Quite simply the best guitar player....EVER. Period.

  • i love how there are always people saying petrucci has no emotion! Its classic! Chances are they have never seen him live, probably havnt heard his solo album in depth, dont listen to dream theater, or have no musical dictation, becuase i aint saying hes the most emotional guitarist out there, but people seem to think that you can't play fast and have emotion at the same time.

  • Okay, so most of the debate thing is my fault so I will just end it here with this.

Hendrix = Most Influential (Can't lose that title ever)

Other great guitarists today = Have probably surpassed Hendrix in terms of playing(Technique-wise NOT musically because that is completely subjective)

Maybe if Hendrix was still alive today and wanted to incorporate all these innovations to guitar playing then that would be a different story but its not.

Students can surpass their teachers you know.

  • at 2:24 he gives you that look... like " yeah im God and you will never play this "

  • Someone knows the name of the first song he plays?

  • @Vignirv Damage Control from his solo album Suspended Animation^^

  • @Surrilium Nah, I knew Damage Control. But it was Animate Inanimate :)

  • @Vignirv Really? Hm, then I haven't listen to the album for a long time =D

  • Give me Peter Green or any blues guitarist over this. I'm not hating, and I have a load of Satriani and Vai stuff. But These are guys you need to go and physically watch to be in awe of their technical abilities. But you can't get that from a recording.

I prefer stuff with more emotion, these guys can paint good pictures in your mind and tell stories with their music, and theyre all influenced by the great blues guitarists and hendrix. But just something about it, I can't sit down and listen.

  • @benmols And your point is? If you don't like it, that's fine, different strokes and all. But what I don't understand is why you felt the need to comment.

  • @Annulable Because there is a debate on this video and this a medium that encourages discussion and opinions.

  • @benmols Yeah, but isn't it kinda pointless to debate music taste? It's a completely subjective thing.

  • @Annulable I wasn't talking about my tastes in Music, I actually listen to this "kind" of music. Ive been to Steve Vai workshops of met him and shook his hand. I was saying that I can't sit down and listen to this music. I have to watch it, because most of it is about technical ability and that impresses people. But listening to Jimi Hendrix play Machine Gun and make his guitar shreik and scream and create so many layers sends a chill up my spine. I don't dislike any music, I'm open to all kinds

  • This "unlike" button I think is meaningless. If somebody doesn't like it, then he/she should press the red "X" button right top of the screen....

  • @bekomach so people aren't allowed a negative opinion then? nice one retard

  • @squashroe What I mean is the people should watch the video that he or she want to love... If somebody has any comment, it can be written on there...

  • check this out now!!!

    watch?v=4KhlP7OByO8

  • 'Why is it so special??'

Because John Petrucci is on it ;)

  • Nice haircut

  • Cool stuff but not so well illustrated. How about an eye cam from john's view!

I know this is only like the first decade or so in which the technology to share

is available to the mass of lower middle class, it'll take some time to improve

    cam angles & magnification + tabs,graphs,charts, etc..but SERIOUS THANKS!!!!

  • you just about have to sleep with your guitar to keep up with the stuff out these days like a marathon runner .at least at my age lol

  • what song is the first demonstration from?

  • @shojh11 Animate-Inanimate - John Petrucci from is solo album: Suspendet animation. Great song!

  • which song is that?

    from 0:00 to 0:18

  • @penam7300 Damage Control - from the solo album

  • Title to greatest player will never go to someone else......

  • Tosin Abasi and Animals as Leaders are awesome. JP is still my favorite guitarist, but Tosin does make some amazing music.

  • haha....hes definately reading from a teleprompter

  • everyone should go check out animals as leaders. Tosin Abasi is the most creative, technical, melodic, and great composer ive ever seen. Its proggresive metal, check it now!

  • welcome you to this very special...............DVD LOL

  • I wasn't aware John's middle name was Dream Theater... So that is where they got the band name...

  • I don't to relax..i need to digest it in my ears and in my brain

  • awesome Exercise!!! helping me alot.. thanx petrucci ;)

  • LOL AT HIS FINGERS 5:17

  • sounds so lame when played slow, but so awesome when played fast... damn, i think i might be getting a little jealous of his skills. i used to hate him because my OLP Petrucci guitar was a piece of crap but now that i have an ibanez i look up to this guy, it's stupid i know lol

  • I think people have this obligation to think that Hendrix is and always will be better than any other guitarist in the future. Give them one of today's greatest guitarist, "Oh Hendrix was better than him". Listen, guitarists these days are amazing. It's scary sometimes to see the innovative stuff that Petrucci, Vai, Satch etc. do on guitar. I'll say this, Hendrix will prob. never lose his title as most influential but his title as greatest guitar player will eventually be given to someone else.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent it already has surely. Hendrix is very overrated i think. sure he revolutionaised blues. but as a guitarist, there are hundreds of better players. whether its feel or technical ability, all hendrix did was turn a few knobs on hisamp and made a distorted sound.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent i dont see why its necessary to label musicins "the best," or "in the top ten" or anything like that....

  • @ThisIsNotVincent you're wrong, cause all the guitarist you now from 70 to nowdays are influenced by jimi hendrix

  • @DadoISTVAS They are still better than him and if you read it again you might find that that was the point of his post

  • @ThisIsNotVincent

I think people think too much ;)

  • @ThisIsNotVincent It already belongs to either John or Satch.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent yeah alexi laiho kicks his ass

  • @ThisIsNotVincent Agreed. Hendrix was a great guitarist. Without a doubt the best of his time. Its time to pass the torch. In my opinion Petrucci is number one. Eventually I think people recognize Hendrix as the great and influential guitarist he was but the amazing things the great guitarists are pulling out now are way beyond the comprehension of previous times.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent

The reason Hendrix is always given that title, and will probably have that title forever is because without him, Petrucci, Vai and Satch wouldn't be the people we know and love today ;)

  • @RS1Comedy1Vids That statement will be true forever about every musician. Where would we be without Les Paul?

  • @JasonWB007

Well, we could keep going back and saying things like "Where would we be without Mozart, Beethoven, Bach" etc.

It's just that what Hendrix did in his extremely short career, no one else has so far managed to replicate.

  • @RS1Comedy1Vids

No guitarist, true. Although I would never seriously compare him or any other guitarist to Beethoven, Bach or Mozart.

  • @Dally3232

I wasn't comparing a guitarist to Mozart etc, the original poster said "Where would we be without Les Paul?" and I just said we could keep going back and saying things like where would we be today if it wasn't for the Classical/Romantic era.

  • It;s because Hendrix made 'songs', not 'riffs'.

  • @Fkouch very well said. music from the 60s,70s,80s were 'songs'. today they are more about riffs, basslines and drum beats put together to make something that sounds and looks good, but even the band playing it cannot quite feel it.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent

Petrucci, Angelo etc got better skills than the classic ones, but they are many floors lower when it comes to emotion....Petrucci is a great guitar player, but he makes me feel nothing with his music. Amazing, yes...but totally heartless

  • @2Funky4me oh yeah, how do you express the emotions on playing those riffs. like the DP parts? uhm.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent Hendrix fucking sucked anyways... Lol seriously i cant think of anyone that answers this "whats your favorite band?" "Hendrix" Rofl. i mean yeah hendrix thought of some good shit, but he wasnt amazing

  • @linkwitme dude just because u got different taste and likes doesnt mean u can simply disrespect other great legends...Hendrix was definitely something..best or better u must admit that he was one of the best guitarist of this world...so u better not say he's shit bro..have some respect.

  • @grimripper1000 No, but he did play incredibly sloppy. its not his style. i love his style. he just played sloppy. and the drugs made him unique. *sorry to say* Just like drugs make every band unique, then they get sober, and they start making shitty albums

  • @linkwitme rytt

  • @ThisIsNotVincent thank you, man. I was saying that all the time.hendrix may be the most influential, but he's not the best guitarist ever. people give him that credit cause he was the first guitarist who played something different. for me, the two best and untouchable guitar player are: jason becker and shawn lane. why? check out their songs. they are full of emotions, feelings and they are perfect. they can bring tears and happiness, joy and sorrw..amazing.

  • @jimmyleppard6 R.I.P. Shawn Lane and it just wasn't fair for Jason Becker to become diseased at such a young age.

  • @ThisIsNotVincent Hendriz was never that amazing of a guitarist he was amazingly original and influential and groundbreaking, but not technically amazing.

  • I'm not used to hearing the correct version of this song.

  • He plays the guitar as if it were a piano....just look how little he focuses on his right hand, it's just robotic! :O Petrucci is god!!!!

  • I love Petrucci, but man.....he really is BORING AS FUCK.

  • only Petrucci make simple scales in magic notes with a great tone

  • what guitar does he play?

  • @Fwibbib19 a 6 strings Petrucci custom

  • @Fwibbib19

    A Music Man John Petrucci

  • @Fwibbib19 hey plays an Ernie Ball John Petrucci Music Man, if you haven't guessed by the name its his signature guitar :) Theyre amazing

  • @Fwibbib19 Music Man John Petrucci BFR

  • @guitars357 thats not the bfr model , its the earlyest jp6 which i like the most

  • Im not gay, but he looks sexy in this video O_o

  • @KyleJPie10 youre gay

  • @KyleJPie10 Yah your gay

  • @TheJamyMonkey lmfao I guess so.......

  • when i showed this to a mi classmates, about half of them dropped dead

  • thanks a lot!

  • Who knows what´s de name of the starting song. It´s also the demostration #4

  • @cubanomon i think its damage control

  • @cubanomon The starting song is Paradigm Shift from Liquid Tension Experiments. But demonstration #4 i think is just a random exercise.. that isnt really in one of Petrucci's/LTE/DT songs

  • @cubanomon And demostration #1 is Animate Inanimate from John Petruccis solo album

  • @cubanomon Damage Control

  • Who knows what´s de name of the starting song. It´s also the demostration #4

  • Is there a lesson for the intro in either part?

  • You know? I don't understand why people compare guitarists like petrucci to Hendrix. It doesn't make sense. Two different times, and two different GENRES! You can't compare them. Hendrix was blues rock. Petrucci is contemporary metal. In their own times and genres they are amazing! Stop comparing them because it makes no sense anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • That was an incredibly intellectual statement. Bravo.

  • Comment removed

  • Hahaha you're right. I've never touched a musical instrument in my life. And I never claimed to be better than Petrucci. Let me guess your list of favorite guitarists:

    Vai

    Satch

    Petrucci

    Malmsteen

    MAB

    Jeff Loomis

Bro, SMD. You have given me no evidence you know what you're talking about, which you prolly don't :)

  • Comment removed

  • Hahaha you're right.*sarcasm. And all that talk must mean you're awesome. And for every guitarist you name, I'll just name one that kicks their ass, and I'll name guitarists in basically the same genre so I won't confuse you.

    Shawn Lane

    Alex Skolnick

    Eric Johnson

    Andy Timmons

Petrucci is fucking awesome, and so are Vai and Satch, but Laiho sucks...Buckethead just plays fast most of the time. He has flashes of brilliance every once and a while.

  • Comment removed

  • Hahahahaha. Now I know you have no idea what you're talking about. You're trying to tell me that because you're old or dead that you can't be as good as someone else? hahahahahahaha. Eric Johnson and Andy Timmons both have far better tone and technique then Petrucci. Go and ask someone. And your profile picture shows with an ESP guitar. Nothing says "I suck" like an LTD. It's like someone who uses an epiphone is trying to shame me:)

  • Comment removed

  • That's right. The guy with an Alexi Laiho LTD guitar is lecturing me on my dick size. Isn't that a little gay and immature to bring my dick into a discussion about music?
