@dwash56, Many sailors received MOHs for saving fellow ship mates that went over board. S0C0MMASTER makes a valid point for the Army MOH numbers during the Civil War. Understand I'm not trying to debase any service member from any branch that received the MOH, but read the citation for any Marine that won the MOH and you'll be enlighten. Don't forget to watch Sgt Meyer award ceremony on the 15 SEP 2011. Semper Fi Marines.

Im training to be a 0321 marine when im out of highschool (recon) And about everyone arguing over marines and army. The army rangers are better then normal marine infranty of course. The rangers are trained much more then normal infantry. But comparing recon to rangers is even fields. In my opinion recon is better because of their extreme training and discipline and versatility. But army rangers are still also bad ass.

Force Recon is no diffirent than navy seals doing things outside of the Water, they are a full spectrum...or so they think force, which was my Point. In Grenada, two Army Battalions were pinned down in the southern half of the region while a extremely smaller group of Marines accomplished more than two whole BATTALIONS.

here is a story a Marine was shot and wounded in Iraq a Army Solider found him and carried him a mile to a US Air force helicopter on board were two corpsman and flying the helicopter was an air force pilot and guarding and assisting the Corpsman were two Marines. the story is much more detailed but anyways stop arguing about what branch is better when we all put on the uniform we are all under the same flag same cause thumbs this up so everyone can see is getting old seeing arguments

Dan Daly and Smedley Butler both won the Congressional Medal of Honor TWICE, both Marines. Since then more Marines have won the Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, and Bronze Star more so than any other branch of service. We're the best, let's just get it straight.

@usmc2israel4 Well you can't really include Navy Cross because it is given to members of the Navy and Marines. Thats like saying more men in the Army have won the Distinguished Service Cross (the Army equivalent) so the Army is the best.
keep in mind that of the 297 MOHs awarded to the marines, 5 of those were awarded the army and navy MOH for the same incident (yes there was a army and navy MOH way back in the day) so the actual number for marines who was awarded the MOH is 292.
if you're talking about awardees then: 4 soldiers, 8 sailors, and 2 marines have been awarded 2 MOHs...so actual awardees: army 2355, navy 739, marines 290.

@dwash56 i remember watching a documentary that said alot of the medals given in the early days were just for re enlisting during the civil war. Force Recon is no diffirent than navy seals doing things outside of the Water, they are a full spectrum...or so they think force, which was my Point. As in they dont just do RECON, they can do anything. Just like Green Beret's dont JUST train foreign Army's, which is their real Mission. So my point was they are not More Disciplined, or Versatile, than the Army ranger's, or they would be used.

Thats why we were first into Afghanistan, 101st Airborne, thats why Delta Force was After bin Laden, not Force Recon. Thats why Ranger's were in Somalia tracking Adid, not Recon, Thats why 3rd Infantry Division was FIRST to Baghdad, and basically took the city alone in 2003. Its just facts man. Now if the Marines would just admit that we , the U.S. Army has a real history dating back to 1775, unlike them. @11bravo1789 You do realize that Force Recon is Tier 2, right? They have the ability to use DA IF it is necessary. Green Berets are Tier 2, also. But you didn't see Green Berets fighting Somali Insurgents in 1993, did you? However, BEFORE the Rangers and Delta arrived, there were Marines there. In Grenada, two Army Battalions were pinned down in the southern half of the region while a extremely smaller group of Marines accomplished more than two whole BATTALIONS.

My original point was that Recon aren't seen in major engagements like Rangers or Airborne, because that is NOT their speciality. Force Recon has the same level of confidentiality as Delta, so there are MORE THAN LIKELY several dozen Ops we've never heard about. Rangers are Special Forces INFANTRY.

The moron SEC DEF Rumsfeld let Bin Laden Slip away, when delta requested the 101st Airborne to block off the mountain passes. He wouldnt let them in. keep in mind that of the 297 MOHs awarded to the marines, 5 of those were awarded the army and navy MOH for the same incident (yes there was a army and navy MOH way back in the day) so the actual number for marines who was awarded the MOH is 292.
if you're talking about awardees then: 4 soldiers, 8 sailors, and 2 marines have been awarded 2 MOHs...so actual awardees: army 2355, navy 739, marines 290.

Back then they handed them out almost freely, it wasnt until later on that the reqirements were changed. excuse my spelling its late at night and i don't feel like fooling with my spelling and grammer errors =P
