for everyone bitching about stransky and his machine pistol, its been some time since Stransky has been in officer school and hes never fired his weapon in combat before. hes a staff officer thats been in active service for months, he wouldnt be required to use it or practise very often. Its already been established in the earlier battle scene when he is seen to ask his radio operator 'where is my weapon?' in a panic. but its not about training or knowing how to use the weapon, hes panicked.
"and I will show you where the iron crosses grow" the best friendship movie line in cinema history, incredible.I like it so much because this movie comparing to dirty dozens and all that bromance crap, this movie doesn't include even a smallest pint of gay shit.
hey pals, Stransky doesn't say How do I reload ? HE SAYS: " I'VE GOT TO RELOAD. I'VE GOT TO RELOAD" LISTEN CAREFULLY, he is after all aristocratic piece of Prussian pig shit.
yeah there are 2 captivating battle scenes in this movie. and a great intro and ending. if any of u notice, he demotes him when says' u are the rest of my platoon" to first fuletant.
@russelledwards001 YOU ARE RIGHT,.... nobody tells Him anything,...nobody talks with Him that is why,... we like the confort of our living room,... we do not question things anymore and this is what we get SADISM ,..I believe it is a right punishment after all from HIS point of view don;t you think? (again from His point of view)!!!! LONG LIVE REAL FREE AMERICA AND THE AMERICAN SPIRIT
Steiner and Stransky survive as they are in the 1978 sequel 'Breakthrough' and stars Richard Burton as Steiner. Stransky is promoted to Major. The sequel was far inferior to this film however.
Damnit, all these years I thought he said "I will show you the Iron Cross's road"!!

Movie critisizes war, but also accepts it and shows that war will never stop. It continues until theres no human race anymore.

Sam Peckinpah put GRIT into violence. You knew somebody got hit. You saw the consequences,of that choice. Even when walking into hell laughing.

They don't make men like Coburn anymore

Rejoice not, in his defeat ,you men.
For although the world stood up and stopped the bastard,
The bitch that bore him is in heat again.

Max Schell was Magnificent, and so Coburn.Greatest Drama can't even be in a Tango.War isn't a children's game, but some Wars are led by Childish men.

Steiner and all the others die...
it's like Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line...
they all go to hell...
HHSTT 2 years ago
Why does he go to hell?
Badfish93 2 years ago
So, does Steiner survive? Is he laughing his way to Hell? [Like Mozart's Don Giovanni.]Will he meet Stransky there? As you say, ambiguous.
