  • They were first called "sneakers" in the 1950's because people were used to hearing everyone walking as the common leather-soled shoes made noise with every step; rubber-soled shoes were very quiet in comparison.

    I call mine whatever I'm wearing- Vans or Nikes, Converse fro my sister. Too many kinds to just say "tennis shoes".

    My mom, having been raised in PI calls 'em rabber shus...but I call 'em what they are, from chucks to slip on's running. I sometimes call 'em by their name brand.

    On an off-topic note though...I never realized how much you look like my younger brother's girlfriend. She's on FaceBook, her name is Mane Alipio...check her out...you will be amazed!

  • lol "tennis shoes," pronounced as "tennashoos" then shortened by mom to "tennisis." for a long time i did not know that "tennisis" could translate into two real words. we never played "tennis."

    actually our version of tennis was called "droopy game" (rofl thinkin 'bout this) 'cause it consisted of hitting the ball w/ heavy, old tennis racquets, missing the return, walking to go get the ball, repeating for about 30mins. never had a net, never kept score -random barely relative flashback

  • :) In Romania the sports shoes are called "adidasi" (pronounced "adidashi" the final "i" in Romanian is for plural in many words, the shoes being two and all...) from the brand Adidas, which I think was the first big brand to make its way into our market. So now you can get sentences like "I went and got some Nike adidasi". Yeah... And this is the first time I have commented here, so the mandatory "Love your videos" is in order ;).   • yup.. my parents always called them rubber shoes... and then my friends at school would never say that. so i hear tennis shoes a lot and sneakers if they're like canvas or rocket dogs. but if they're athletic shoes... like running shoes, then i hear tennis shoes a lot. it's weird and yet now when I hear "rubber shoes" from my parents it always goes off in my head that no one else really calls them hat haha.
