295 doesn't support DX11, where as 5870 does, and if you really wanted an ATi GPU to compare to the 295, you'd be looking at the 5970, which is 2 5870's WITH DX11. All in all, ATi is the best GPU currently. :)

hmmm.. you are right about gtx295 being older card.. but gtx 295 is still more expensive than 5870 (over 100dollars more expensive).. and FPS difference is very small.. (only 2.4 fps difference in this video).. and in many games, 5870 wins over gtx 295.. I must say Nvidia is losing right now in both price competition and technology competition.. If Nvidia wants to stay in competition, it really needs to come up with new generation card quick as possible with competitive pricing..

I got the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition @ 3.4 GHz (non over-clocked) which crushed the i7 920 (non over clocked). Well not really crush, but it is a lot better. The Black Edition is specially designed for over clocking, what do you guys think I should over clock it to?

I agree with that point, but not every people wants to upgrade every 4 months or so.

The next generation of cards are going to be just as power efficient and more powerful. Nor did i say someone should get the 295 over the 5870.

To me though no matter if it is single gpu or dual, it should have been faster than the 295 not match it. the 5xxx series are aweasome but on par with the nvidia's previous fastest card and the 4xxx series which are better when it comes to dx11.

Because the GTX295 provides the same performance (even higher). I would not recommend anyone to change a GTX295 today. But for those with a less powerful card (HD 3870,etc ...) should purchase a HD5870 because is powerful and have Directx 11 etc... But I'll never change a GTX 295 with a HD5870 ;)

Also in my opinion the Gtx4xx series are only good at dx11 tesselation, otherwise they get their ass kicked by the 5870 !!

I will wait for the next gen of cards though see what they have to offer and when the prices drop i'll get the most bang for buck card of the high end models.

Also i'll never make the same mistake again and buy a dual gpu card. they might be aweasome and fast but the issues that surround them are just as many.

You're right! The GTX4xx show great results with tesselleration with DirectX 11. But I think this is a very good results when there are more games that take advantage of DirectX 11. Today there are few games compatible with DirectX 11.

Your system is great too, and at anytime you could get a 5870 or 5850 and see your frames jump up sky high !

By the time Dx11 will start to have some real use Dx12 will be on the spotlight, that's how it goes all the time, it's just a marketing trick to make people upgrade when there is really no need to
