i have a chinease chestnut tree in my back yard its freaking anyoing i have to pick the up spike balls in fall and the yellow things in summer garh stupid tree
do you happen to know if american chestnuts hybridize freely with chinese chestnuts? i ask because i am thinking about planting some chinese trees and, if my wildest dreams are fulfilled and i live to see the day where i can plant my own 15/16 americans, it would be interesting to know what would happen with the two types next to one another... interesting video indeed.
Yes, apparently all chestnut species hybridize. It would be nice to get the large nuts of the Chinese and sweet nuts of the American combined, plus the excellent timber of the American, but the genetics is complicated and you may get the worst of all combinations. Some traits are known to be dominant, however, and you can search for this info on the Web.
