@awdunklee i grew up in wolfeboro and about 20 years ago we would climb up from the road and would go through a window in the basement then up into the kitchen through a hole in the floor. [[NOT doing any harm to the place or stealing anything!!]] it is amazing inside! i just moved back to new england after tens years and i just rode by a few days ago to point it out to my children : ) [[i KNOW it was tresspassing... i wouldnt do it now, just saying :)]] it is/was a beautiful place!!!!
@missbetzy76 - me, too, back in the 70's & we did no harm either. I was heartbroken when there was an open house a few years ago & saw more damage done. Also when I went there before there was some furniture in the basement & twin beds over the rooms above the kitchen. All ripped off now by jerks. It is beautiful even in it's current state just knowing what it once was :(
@Boowitch13 saddly the people that do the damage ruin it for the rest of us. i wish i was here for the open house! i have pics of the place&also had my senior pictues taken up there(with permission :) )i would LOVE for my 2 children to see the castle after seeing the pictures i have from way back!! it was great feeling every time we would climb into the basement.after reading the comments about people wishing they could see the inside i feel very lucky to have done so! a great teenage memory!
Growing up in nearby tilton, myself and several friends spent countless nights trying to get in there. If you need an adrenaline rush, walk up the hill from rt.11 and stand on the one of the porches.I'm 42 now and stil dream of getting in one day
To the new owner, I would love to see inside the castle, I am willing to sign a waiver if I get hurt on your land stating it is my fault. Just would like to see the castle and if I can offer any help in fixing it to make it last longer I am willing.
yes the castle private property, why tresspass yes i may ask people 2 leave ,everyday some one just drives up like they own it , some get out walk around????? this is where i live and it posted most say they did nt see my 5 signs i got at drive way,i was to open haunted castle last year town shut it down told me i can t show the plublic the castle does nt meet safty codes
@loudpipes2 - I don't blame you. There used to be a lot of stuff in there in the basement in the 70's that A-holes ripped off. It's a shame people disrespected the castle & vandalized it. I love that place & even have pics of it in my dining room.
it is not being fixed up... it lies in disrepair and is for sale.... the caretaker may work for or be associated with loud pipes saloon in some way... but he basically scares away any one who tries to look at the castle and it appears he has stuff stored in or near the castle...
No one is fixing up the castle. I was there a few weeks ago. It's very clearly posted. Loud Pipes is the saloon the caretaker used to own. Although a bar would be awesome!
Do I understand correctly that this place is a private property? I'm making a documentary about the lakes region and I found an old postcard of this place. If I can include a shot of it, I'd like to. But private property is always hard to get the rights to.
What an awesome video. My husband and I got married there in 1984. He had spent a lot of time in Gilford as a kid and always wanted to get married there.....so we did. I feel the same way about the castle. It is very sad that the money can't be raised to make it beautiful again. I dream of that day.
I emailed the realtor once and he never got back to me either. It is just sad.
I've emailed him 3 times now and never an answer. I'd like to make a nice video w/
my camcorder. I used to have the owners number but lost it. I don't even know if they're still around. They were living in the house next door. With the economy being bad now I fear the castle will never get the attention. I'm glad others like you care about it though. I think it's captured the heart of many.
I know it is. Something hangs around the 2 small rooms over the kitchen. I got scared once in 1979. We snuck in & heard something
running up the stairs. We thought we were going to get in trouble for trespassing. When it came into the first room it was really creepy. We couldn't see it but it was very sad & angry. I still love it though & always will. I have pics I took of the castle hanging in my Dining room when the owners had an open house for their son's boyscout troup Do they still own it?
yeah there trying to sell it but right now they are living in it and once when i was in there at night we heard foot steps then when we went over there somthing pushed me it was so scary
Yeah, the thing I encountered that time is very angry & sad.I know people say Benjamin
is there.I don't think my experience was him. I live in Concord. Kimball had designed this beautiful train station here & they tore it down ( I think in the 60s')in the name of "progress" for a cheap shopping mall. I think it's weird for back in those days that he only had one son & that son never had any children. Please keep in touch & updated.I love that place so much, haunted or not.I don't know why.
i want to buy it too i just figured out my dad has been keeping a secret about my house that we used to live in but we still own it he says it is haunted so i cant wait to go back there and check it out
I've always wanted to go there and try to get some EVPs but my husband freaks out when I mention that. He's afraid of me bringing home an unwanted guest.LOL. I don't think that would happen. Those entities are stuck in that place for a reason. I bet it wouldn't be hard to get some EVPs. I've never done anything like that before but with such strong
activities present I bet I'd get something. There so many of us in NH of all ages that love that place.I wonder if we co-ordinate something someday.
I was there today and it was the first time since I was about ten years old back in 1984 and i'm very upset over the condition of the castle,I want to start a place online where people can donate to try to save the castle.
Let me know if you start a site. The very first time I went to Kimball's in the 70's there was still furniture in the basement covered up. It's all been stolen over the years. It's heart breaking, I know.
I know winter time is bad but when good weather is here again ( Spring?), do you want to see if we can co-ordinate something?I heard it gets muddy there early Spring but after maybe we can help the owners with some things
If you start something for Kimball Castle, let me know. It saddens me, too. Even just from the 70's it has gotten worse. The first time I went there down in the cellar thru the kitchen trap door there was still furniture.
Jerks stole it. I almost wish I had stolen stuff just so I could give it back.
I hope the Kimball Castle in Scotland has a better ending. This one is still just sitting there. I wish I was a millionaire. I've loved this place for decades.
The music used is????
It's lovely!
So is the castle!
Marvelous! :)

I can try to do something, too. I'm not very skilled in those types of things but I'm sure I can do something.

Lets try to get ahold of the current owner(s) and see what we can do!!!
Have them place a letter to the editor in the Laconia Daily Sun (the free paper) saying what we need and plan on doing!!!
This would be a great school project, a trade/ voc teck school project, get local builders, stores to donate stuff
