Wen I saw this 45 years ago the first time, I admired always Ringo, how he covered a mistake of Paul. Now I saw it again, and it is still a great thing. Imagine, you play in this hall with plenty of other noises, no earphones, and then at 6:00 Paul's voice failed and Ringo kept the rhythm and had still time to laugh.
Anybody else hear the Sitar influenced solo George pulls of in "Im Down" at 7:00, its 1966 so by this time they probably had already recorded Revolver if not about too
this concert took place 2 motnhs before the release of revolver, but just 3 days before this concert the last touches were laid on the album in the studio.
@cumbco: that was part of it, but also they couldn't really even hear themselves playing. This is just a few months before their final concert ever at Candlestick Park.
PAUL'S HAVING A FIT WITH THE LYRICS IN I'M DOWN, EVEN AFTER JOHN GIVES HIM THE FIRST VERSE HE STILL KICKS IT OFF WRONG AND THEN FLUBS AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE. I LOVE RINGO'S REACTION. (Sorry about the caps but I wasn't going to re-type all that).
dude, when you play a song like this, it doesnt matter the order of the lyrics. mccartney is just messing with it to be funny, especially since john just gave him the lyrics. also, when you play a song over and over, you change things around to keep yourself interested.
You can really see how far sighted John was in this video. It tended to make him tilt his head lightly backward and make him appear to be looking down his nose. Tending to give him an air of arrogance that wasn't necessarily him. He was so affected by tabloid opinion of him that he became a bean pole because he was referred to in one particular article as the "Chubby Beatle".
Mal ganz ehrlich, die Beatles waren zu dieser Zeit schon eine andere Nummer, aber wenn ich mir die Rattles als Vorgruppe hier anschaue und höre, stehen die den Boys aus Liverpool nichts nach!
@WisMiss101 Naaaaa, they prob wanted to settle a very old rumour about RIngo, was he a Mod or a Rocker?, they prob asked, You're a Rocker eh?, to which he nodded.
@Wolfbane62 Your damned right! If you really want to get a closer listen to some of his master bass work, check out my "bass practice" play list on my channel. It's a collection of a few different people from across the world doing excellent bass covers of some of the "grooviest " bass lines Paul had ever done.
This is just a short time before the band quit touring and while they are clearly suffering from burnout and exhaustion, the genius of thier music and showmanship clearly shows through. This shows the greatest band in history being HUMAN. Priceless.
greatest band ever. John Lennon greastets music star, Paul McCartney most succesful songwriter adn George Harrison a master composer; amd Ringo Star was also some kind of a genius.
it's so funny - paul accialy can't remember the lyrics to "i'm down" and right before he starts singing it (at about 5:38) john reminds him the first line. (it wasn't a new thing that paul kept forgetting the lyrics of this song.)
that goes well but then paul forets the lyrics again and at about 6:04 you can see ringo laughing, and hear paul not singing because he can't remember the words!!!
Sorry, you are wrong. This concert was in June of 1966 in Munich. 1966 was the last year The Beatles toured, with concerts in Manila, Tokyo and North America.
Interesting to actually hear the Beatles perform this...don't think I've heard it like this before...used to the strings version...thanks for posting.

Serious, I have never known any other band in history, to actually stop perfoming live, but carry on as a band. Anyone prove me wrong?

George and Paul show off some of their German at various points. They seem to be enjoying themselves.
