The monastery is very lovely. Valaam (or Valamo in Finnish language) islands in Lake Ladoga belonged to Finland before the war. In 1940 Valamo was bombed heavily and the monastery was decided to evacuate. All the monks and the treasures were transported into Keitele and later to Heinävesi in Finland. In Heinävesi there is New-Valaam monastery ever since. In this so called old Valaam there are only a few original icons left the rest are copies, very good ones though.

I thought the Orthodox Church split and left the Roman Catholic Church in the 11tt century. I gotta look into it. But anyhow, we should pray for and love one another as our Father commands us to. God bless you.

Wrong ...The Orthodox Church was divided into 2 ... the Eastern (Orthodox), which keeps unchanged the teachings and traditions and western (Catholic) who was separated from the church by adding the Filioque in the creed.That it was the beginnings.Until today have introduced several modifications...and you know it.

Is it true that the Orthodox church disobeyed the Pope and dishonored Church Tradition and left to form its own (Like the Protestants did in the 16th century, & subsequently, deviding itself and forming more Orthodox Churches? Is it also true that the Roman Catholic Church was the only Church that was around at the time of the Apotles and was constituted by Christ Himself? If so, then how does that make the Orthodox Church the only, trully and great Church?

You have learned this from a Roman Catholic perspective. The Orthodox view is the other way around. In fact, we do not believe the pope had universal jurisdiction over the Church before the Great Schism in 1054.

Orthodox Churches also did not divide after the schism like the Protestants. There may be many ethnic adjectives to describe different jurisdictions like Greek, Romanian, or Russian Orthodox, but they are all in communion with each other. They are not separate denominations.

I am very happy to here different Orthodox Churches are in communion with each other. One thing I want to say ma not just be Catholic "perspective", but historical facts. Both you and I can view history whatever way we want but we can not turn something that didn't happen into facts or reality. Its not my view that the Pope should be head of the Church. It is what Christ himself commanded, traditionally speaking. He put Peter in that position before He was crucified. Agreed?

Another thought I'd like to add, as much as Orthodox Churches are united but have you ever thought about it NOT being a true Church because it separated itself from the very Church and Tradition that Christ constituted? Christ called Peter "Rock" and upon this rock He built His Church, which Church do you think it is? Orthodox or Roman Catholic?

The ''Rock'' represent=is the confession of Saint Peter,his faith,he recognized:''You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God''.This is the accurate interpretation..and not (The Apostle Peter) as person.

Your English is great friend, but I have a hard time understand your interpretation or logic. Peter's faith "rock" and solid and Christ was referring to Peter's faith as a secure foundation where He would built His Church. The New Testament has Peter as the leader of the Apostles, and Christ pray for him exclusively so that he might strengthen others and the Church Fathers from the very early life of Christianity thought he was the leader as well. To say the Orthodox interpretation is accurate..

De mai multe ori Manastirea Valaam a fost distrusa si devastata, de mai multe ori calugarii acesteia au fost trecuti prin sabie, sfintind pamantul cu sangele lor de martiri, de mai multe ori sfintele biserici si paraclise au fost cuprinse de incendii, insa, de fiecare data, manastirea a renascut si a crescut mai puternica in viata de obste si in rugaciune.
