@TigerCardinal0812 LOL very true.. it was very eerie sounding when they went off in the middle of December. The usually they go off around here in the springtime but then again tornadoes can happen any time especially around here.
@mbstone99 i made a video of sirens going off in my hometown this past May, and they're nowhere near as creepy as this. that could be because we don't usually see many real tornadoes, and the ones we do see usually aren't very strong.
@TigerCardinal0812 It was odd that it was so late in the year and they went off but I guess anything is possible. The whole Christmas lights with the sirens going off gives it a totally creepy feel. We get some tornadoes around this part of Texas but most of them are small ones, well at least of what I have seen so far since moving here 5 years ago.
Unfortunately, winter severe weather isn't all that uncommon here in D/FW...........although we haven't had a Tuscaloosa-type incident yet, thank god{referring to highly damaging F4/EF5 tornado that oblitered chunks of Tuscaloosa Co.. AL on Dec. 16, 2000}.
@1291ffemt I am the same way.. during the day time it's not bad at all but at night it's a totally different story. Last summer we moved out of that apartment and to the other side of town. We haven't heard the sirens since moving so I am not sure exactly where they are located but hopefully not too close. LOL.
I think these are either the one down somewhere on Parker between the Tollway and The Colony city limits or Spring Creek between the Tollway and the Colony city limits or both.
i live off parker and independence, and there are sirens seems like all around me. when they go off, they scare the crap out of me. ever since april of last year, when those few tornados came through. off the tollway, and parker and custer, are the few i know of off top of my head.
shit if i were u i would of jsut went to dallas n wait for it to pass by i always do that , but idk why the sirens sound bad ass to me for some reason
AH HA, yes, I remember that, scared the shit out of some of my friends, one had the tornado touch down a street down from him... Whats ironic about this is that about 12 hours later is was below/at freezing temperature... Proves the statement "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait a few minutes" true.
I think you are right. I checked the Plano city web page but there was no mention of what type of sirens they use but from the looks of it they are Whelens.
And what I think you are hearing also are 2 different sirens as well. There is one about 1/4 of a mile due south of me and one 1/4 mile due north of me so there is somewhat of an echo of both of them going off at the same time.
If you go on the city's web page, for some reason this won't post if I put the link in here, there is a map of all the locations of the warning sirens. I am located in between #20 & #11 in West Plano.
I was really scared when this went off too and still scared hours later. My wife was just going to bed when it started going off. I thought we should do something but she didn't think we needed to. Usually she is the one that worries all the time and I am say don't worry about it. Hehe.
I remember this... the VERY second I was about to sleep agfter finishing a rather tiring project for school, the sirens went off. And I was, like, "Okay...either REALLY severe weather like that one time, or there really IS a tornado..."
.... AAANNND my band friends were at All-Region and had to stay longer in Allen cuz the tornado was, like, right there. XD
I am glad I don't live right by one of those as that would creep me out even more. I live maybe 1/4 mile or so away from two of them, one directly north of here on Spring Creek and one directly south of here on Parker.
That is odd that Cooke Co didn't get a warning considering how ya'll are right next to Grayson Co, maybe this storm tracked from the SW to NE and missed Cooke.
you got a good video of the sirens. My video came out lame, I think because I took it from my phone. We didn't have any damage in our area off of spring creek. The lighting was terrible though..our power went our for a bit. What area do you live in?
There wasn't any damage around here either. I did hear on the Channel 4 news in the morning that there was a bunch of damages up in Denison but nothing in Collin County. I am around the area of Windhaven & the Tollway.
There wasn't any damage fortunately in Plano but up in Denison in Grayson County about an hour north there was a small tornado that destroyed a couple of houses.
the christmas lights are ultimately what make this video creepy. they're not exactly synonymous with tornado sirens.

They sound eerie in fast wail (if that is fast wali)
Hopefully nobody was hurt.
euphoria0311 3 years ago
No its too slow for fast wail. Its called "Wail Tone" that they are running in in the video.

#20 is a Whelen WPS-4008 and #11 is a Whelen WPS-2810. Seems like you're closer to #11 than #20.
