I'd like to think our paths crossed in Honolulu or Norfolk and dream that some of his artistry rubbed off on me. Aloha, John. I know you're inspiring angels everywhere.
Unbelievable....he was my classical guitar instructor when I attended Eckerd College in the 1980's. He decided to move our sessions to his house because it was so close to the college anyway, and I remember him talking about Hawaii and his love for Hawaiian culture.......he even made me pick out a Hawaiian shirt as a gift from his vast collection. Great guy.....R.I.P.
What a delightful player, teacher and human being. And how he could reach our hearts with his achingly beautiful renditions like the one just heard. " Achingly beautiful", that's his phrase. It tells me how deeply he felt the music and how much joy it brought to him. And through him, to us. Earl Ledden
John was the premiere scholar of the 'ukulele. He contributed to my exhibition Evolution of the Ukulele with his knowledge, loans to the show, and came and performed, and thrilled and amazed everyone so much. But we'll remember him best practicing on our deck overlooking the SF Bay, and the birds did, indeed, sing along. Aloha nui, John, long my your song be sung - Haina iâ mai ana ka puana - hana hou - Haina iâ mai ana ka puana
RIP From all of us at Ukuleles For Peace , who John Supported he will be sadly missed . I met him on several occasions at Uke Expos. May he be remebered for his wonderful Music. Paul Moore UFP>
We feel privileged to have met John, and our profound sadness is tempered only by the knowledge that the wonderful body of work he created will continue to delight, inspire and educate.
