I think you can write that signed area formula in determinant matrix form.

Hi mathgeek37,
You are quite right. Signed areas of triangles and determinants of 2x2 matrices are intimately connected. This geometrical interpretation of a determinant (which extends also to higher order determinants) is not given enough attention in linear algebra classes.
