Nonsense. Rush had a few good albums early on, but became a parody of themselves before too long. No talented writing, and Geddy Lee so so full of himself, loves himself so much, it's hard to take him seriously.
I've worn out the first 3 albums since I bought them in the early 80's, but anything since then is rubbish.
The WHO on the other hand, has put out one fantastic original album after another over the years, and Pete Townshend is still rocking as hard as ever and in his 60's.
what you're saying is nonsense. they never became a parody of themselves... they reinvented themselves with each record. and their fourth album, 2112, is when they started putting out their most creative material. i don't know if they are the best trio, but they are massively talented... who can deny that??? even if you don't like the music they make, you have to recognize their talent. Geddy is a humble guy, too... what universe do you live in?
I think Pete T. is the greatest talker ever. I'd buy a CD of his interviews. He's the most articulate and interesting fellow in rock history. Also, he's a great songwriter, guitarist and he invented a lot of stuff, like the moog synthesizer as an rhythm instrument.
Pete is a supercharged flamenco guitarist. Clapton brought the blues into the rock era, pioneering jazz-rock with Cream in the bargain. Page fathered heavy metal and world music, but can't be contained in either of those categories. Folks, the others don't have to suck in order for one to be great.
i find it very touching that townshend felt threatened by these, let's face it, lesser talents... alright, jimi is god and pete acknowledges that, but to think that clappo or page are even in the same league as writer/players or icons is just wrong!
Damn straight on that! Page lost it after Zeppelin. Clapton is predictable. Townshend has the best of all three possible talents. Singing, Writing and great Guitarist. Better than he lets on most of the time as far as guitar playing goes.
that's so true. he constantly puts down his guitar playing when any guitarist with ears KNOWS that he's incredibly skillfull and has something that clappo and page can only dream about: a decent right hand! (he's a great rhythm guitarist is what i'm trying to say....) although he'd probably put that down to wanking or something!
self deprication is part of the service with pete when it comes to interviews, i think...
great to see so many of you agreeing with this. I've long since felt that common opinion on guitarists ability is too narrow - speed of playing and number of notes played in the bar - wrong!
Pete is utterly unique and one of the most engaging live performers ever. Its this that counts.
by power trio, he means only the musicians. led zep and the who were both power trios because only the guitarist, bassist, and drummer played instruments
@MsGORGONS Yeah. Led Zeppelin is a trio the same way The Who is. Three musicians and a singer. Get It? No doubling up on the guitar. In a trio like The Stray Cats, one of the musicians doubles as a singer. C'mon mate!
just dont lend him your laptop

Yeah I guess your right, but still Lifeson is better guitarist than Pete, but I love The Who, John and Keith especially.

They were all power trio's, in terms of musicians, ignoring singers.
