You left out the fact that vet school is extremely competitive, good grades and experience are musts, and that vet school is another tough 4 years after your Bachelors. It's all worth it though. :) You don't need a "pre-vet degree", just the pre-requirements. It's also very important to note that vets need people skills in order to work with owners. The degree is actually a Doctor of *Veterinary* Medicine, and the exam is actually called the North American *Veterinary* Licensure Exam or NAVLE.
Im 11 and i really wanna be a vet!I love animals whenever i see a animal that need help i take to to the vet and my mom lets it live with us.since i cant really dont that much i stick with the little things like :Feeds homeless animals, give tthem shelter(I Know how to build small houses),all that good stuff.my mom said one we find and animal shelter near us i can help out in the winter and summer :D
i'm 16 and i've wanted to be a vet, an animal behaviorist or something like a specialist for exotic animals. but i'm very concerned about my grades. i'm a B student and i heard to be accepted into med school, you need to e an A+ student with a 95-98% of average in english, sciences, math and english... any tips?
@lovlyanime If you can, try to get your grades up and take some AP courses. Getting into vet school is harder and more selective than getting into human medicine since there are hundreds of medical schools but only 20-30 veterinary schools in the US. This means that they will only take the best of the best. They will also look at your grades in college so it's probably a good idea to get into a good college first and then work from there.
but what are AP courses? also, i live in Canada (we share the Big Lakes, remember?), in the province of Quebec to be more precise, it's quite difficult because i am currently studying in french but by next year, i will start my 2 CEGEP years in english and from there hope to go to vet school, should i go to a french school or english, my average in english is 97% while being 68% for french and 78-84% for the sciences :P
@lovlyanime AP Courses are college-level classes that US high schoolers take that allow them to earn college credit while still in high school. They are graded on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being the best. I did a quick google search and found that there are only 5 vet schools in Canada, so it is vital that you get good grades now because it is probably more competitive that it is in the US. If English is easier for you, go to a English school; if French is easier, then go to a French school. :)
wow thank you so much for actually taking time to google it ! im still thinking about it, firstly, I'm definitely going for an english school and i might move to another province to do so. With this in mind, i became very motivated and am currently improving my grades. first exam of the year: 96% :) wohoo!
and thank you for your responses as it was a great help. i wish you good luck in what ever you are currently doing in life.
you can have a degree in music or history and get it. vet schools prefer you have a degree in something other than pre-vet. theres so many pre-vet students that they have more people to compare you to. so when your a music major and have all the classes required by a vet school you stand out and catch the addmisson eye.
I am 13 and I want to become a vet assistant , but how can I volunter at a local spca. I lova animals, I have 2 cats, 1 rabbit, 5 birds, 2 turtles, and 14 golfishes. All I do with my life is go to school and take care of my animals. I do not even have a boy friend
@victoriatlatelpa im 13 and im gonna become a veterinarian, i dont want to become an assisstant because it doesnt feel like im doing much for the animal, but if i want to become a vet i need at least 8 years of school
@victoriatlatelpa A: boyfriends are not important, trust me, they are nothing but trouble. Normally You need to be 16 to volunteer at an spca. Though you can be any age to raise money for them.

It doesn't matters the time, there are schools that accept you with only 72 credit hours at least, plus the prerequisites

@victoriatlatelpa At my spca you have to be 18 to volunteer but thank god my animal hospital accepts volunteers 15 and up.
If you want to know if you can volunteer, just call or email them.
