They build light houses to warn ships of protruding ground/rocks... So no they dont build it from the sea floor up... They build it on the protruding landmass/rock...
@PDUB816HA ikr, its dark, mysterious in many ways, cold. water is not my friend when coming to oceans, rivers, maybe streams(if over my waist). especially with this music playing.
From what I read, giant waves (obviously not this large) like that are a common occurance at that lighthouse during the spring. The ones that hit previous to the photos being taken was probably larger than what you see in the sequence.
Amazing story, The keeper of that tower must be very frightened especially if he have a family and young children. How much do you think the salary of a keeper to stay in that tower?
Thats awesome! I remember seeing this as a kid and always being told that he dies, now I can act smart and know the real story when it comes up again....god now I cant wait for it to come up again hahah *goes out and buys picture*
la cara que dice que hay al final del video muy rebuscado me parece, pero en una de las imagenes de como avanza la ola, en el lado derecho si aparece una cara mucho mas evidente.
@BiggerThinking1 That's an easy question. They don't. :-) If the sea is 3km deep, no one needs a light house. This one stands in water only 50 meters deep and is about 300 meters offshore. The most amazing thing about this lighthouse is the fact that it was only electrified in 1990!!! :-)
@BiggerThinking1 If you read the book about the lighthouse, it tells you how they built it. They would go out for a few hours at a time during low tide and build what they could before the tide came in. I think like 300 people died in the making of it. Check out the book...it's really interesting.
@ChelseaAnn69 300 people! Come on! Who would continue an unfinished project that took 300 lives other than the Egyptians with their pyramids . Much less who would apply for the job? ;)
@BiggerThinking1 - The ocean floor is a whole lot closer than that. You don't put lighthouses in deep water, you put them where there are rocks (either just visible, or just below the surface) likely to damage shipping. The concrete foundation is built (in fair weather) on rocks not far below the surface.
@BiggerThinking1 A Lighthouse isn't built in 3 km deep water. That would be pointless. The purpose of a lighthouse is to signal ships for rocky waters. The lighthouses themselves are being build on those rocks, so they have a rocksolid anchor :)
@BiggerThinking1 so the whole point of a lighthouse is to mark land or shallow rocks so boats don't hit them; therefore these are always built on existing rock or in shallow water.... no need to build a lighthouse where the water is deep.
@BiggerThinking1 not exactly sure how they built this particular structure ..... but they could PILE by putting the equipment on a barge or they could build a temporary dam and pump the water out then continue with the relevant construction methods needed. This could be done only if the water there is not to deep. other than that if the water is too deep the can build it on land float it out then sink it then anchor its more complecated than i say
@BiggerThinking1 A lighthouse is built because rocks are too close to the surface. To prevent boats from hitting the rocks, they build a lighthouse on those very same rocks to show said boats a beacon to stay away from. It would be really pointless to just build a light house in the middle of the ocean for no reason.
@BiggerThinking1 They are built on areas where the ocean floor is high, thus to warn ships of the potentially dangerous rocks near the lighthouse that could easily sick a ship if it were to collide with it :)
You guys should check out the wave that reached 1720 feet in Alaska. The splash went that high, and the wave was likely several hundred feet tall. One ship rode it all the way to the top and the people survived. Imagine being carried up by a wave that big...

@BiggerThinking1
1. Portland cement sets underwater.
2. Lighthouses are built on the coast, or near the rocks.
3. When the wind blows off shore, or there is no wind, there may be no waves. at all.
4. Its when the storm is there and the wind is blowing from the ocean toward the lighthouse that the huge waves come...
