To be a USAF pilot officer, a BS degree in ANY subject will suffice. If you want to enroll in the USAF Test Pilot School, you will be required to have a degree in one of the engineering sciences.
I know of one who was an English teacher in his early 20's and received a commission in the USN and flew the S-3B Viking.
Stay healthy, clean (no drugs), out-of-trouble, and focused and... you will succeed. Oh, and you need to pass the AFOQT for a pilot slot.
Maintain good grades, at least 3.4 GPA or higher, Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or anything that is "scientific", be a Commissioned Officer, U.S Citizen, score at least 25 on the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test, Pass Flying Class I Physical. If you qualify for everything listed here,Flight Training for you.
@Extreme1567 i wish i could become a us air force pilot but i just found out that i cant because im not a 2nd generation citizen. is this completely true or do i have another option?
@mjlaclaire I'm not here to be a dick or anything but Extreme's guidelines are a little whack. I've been in the process throughout the last year and was just awarded my pilots candidacy slot in March. Right now the competitiveness is more intense than its ever been. The 3.4 GPA is correct, the tech major is NOT correct. All you need is a good GPA, the Major is not essential, I was History . You NEED to score higher than a 25, preferably an 80. Your PCSM should be high also to be competitive.
@mjlaclaire sorry for the double post, if you wear glasses your goal should be to MAX out every other possible credential because your eyesight does hinder the selection process. So try to get a 3.6 or above GPA, at least an 85 on your AFOQT, and at least an 85 on your PCSM. Also, have some flight time because that will help a lot. Score a 100 on your PFA, which shouldn't be too difficult. Not trying to be a dick, just being realistic.
@mjlaclaire If you want to become a civilian commercial pilot, glasses are fine as long as your vision is corrected to 20/20. Contact a FAA AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) for medical details.
US military fighter-pilots and US military transport-pilots have different requirements. Visit: AirForce . com and contact them for current information. Get it from the source.
Awesome vid, dude! Is it weird that I think the most interesting part was watching you fight through the Gs in the dogfight situation? Just goes to show how tough it is.
I'm having trouble deciding on whether to go NROTC/Marines Option or AFROTC. I'm always told that one is less competitive than the others. Other times, people tell me that getting a pilot slot in any branch is pretty unlikely. Also, I am lightly nearsighted and wear glasses.
All these things make me feel a little discouraging, but I've been dreaming to fly ever since I learned my first words, so I won't give up.
Man, I am going to live my dream! Ah, that beast is an amazing thing... I'm not sure why I'm so lucky, everything seems to be going my way... I'm learning to fly gliders, and plan on soloing in a powered flight for my 16th B-day... I'm in Civil Air Patrol and I have connections in the USAF. I don't mean to boast, or anything, but gosh... It's almost like someone higher up wants me in the AirForce. XD USA, All the way!
Just wondering if you think the new stealth Chinese J20 is based on the American spy plane (Aries 2) that was forced to land in April 2001. I'm not talking about shape, but electronic components, paint, etc. But is there anyway to know? (Sorry its off topic).
Ever since i was 7 , all i ever wanted to do was fly and ever since i started highschool i've been working my ass off just to get good enough grades so i can attend the USAF academy for college. I'm not planning on quitting my dream.<3

(One more thing... when I take my PSATs it'll give me a good insight on whether I should go through ROTC or Merchant Marine)
Can someone help? I'm currently a Sophomore in HS yet last year I struggled with my Grades (I wasn't expecting HS to be what it is) but this Year I'm starting out great... (As of now probably 100/95 Average) usually I'm an A/B Student... I'm afraid if I join the USAF, I won't make the Pilot slot and I'll be stuck with Weapons Management, ATC, etc. Can anybody give me some tips on how to better prepare myself? (Other than Work on the Grades which is in progress)

@curevic every branch of the service has aircraft and pilots. Army Marines Airforce and Navy.a good idea would be to talk to a recruiter.or atleast thats what i would do
god damn i hope i can become a USAF pilot i start my first year of college at Ohio University this fall and im joining AFROTC and im so pumped i wanted to fly ever since i was little and my dad was a great inspiration for me hes a 34 year vet of the USAF i want to fly so bad and hope i can make it!
@zonda222 if you dont wear glasses or contacts, you're in good shape, protect those eyes of yours, and youll make it, make good grade get a scholarship and youre on your way
@A1FORC3 It doesnt have to be Aerospace Engineering, you can choose whatever youre comfortable with in the Science Department. I think Aerospace Engineering is kinda easy, I think Physics is much harder.
@ojomow Unfortunately, at my school we dont have AFROTC, i talked to a few recruiters who came to our school, and like 7 out of 10 said that if you get laser eye surgery, then its an automatic disqualify, a few said that PRK is acceptable, becuz laser they cut the flaps open and the Gs is gonna out stress on it and its gonna get worse and worse. But i think theyll waiver, dont get laser eye surgery yet, until you join and know for sure that theyll accept you.
u can always get a waiver if u dnt have 20/20 vision... i asked a capt who was a pilot with glasses how he became one and his response was "theres waivers for everything now a days"
ill try to ask a recruiter or somebody that i know, what the pilot say is one thing, but others might be different, i dont think theyll let people with bad vision fly a 40million dollars aircraft and crash right? but thnx for the inf though
@djenne08 i used to wear glasses, and i rely on it too much and when i dont have my glasses with me, im useless. I haven't wear glasses for about 2 years now, and my vision is a bit better than i thought, so try not to wear contacts for a short time and see if your vision get a bit better, and if you still have doubts then my advice to you is to find a recruiter and talk to him face to face and get more info.
for as long as i can remember ive wanted to become an air force aviator, i have contacted my recruiter and he said i may qualify, so the future only god knows.
PRK is performed with an excimer laser, which uses a cool ultraviolet light beam to precisely remove ("ablate") very tiny bits of tissue from the surface of the cornea in order to reshape it. When you reshape the cornea in the right way, it works better to focus light into the eye and onto the retina, providing clearer vision than before.
no however, you must be an officer in the Air force and you have 3 ways of doing that Air Force academy, ROTC program at a college, or OTS. Either way you need a 4 yr college degree. Becoming a pilot is very competitive. There are a limited number of slots available for pilot training. Most go to Air force Academy so if youre smart enough and can get in to Air force academy consider going there. ROTC is next but still harder and OTS would be the toughest.
I think it because they dont do what they are there to do. If you could just follow the commanding officer instruction and everything will go as smooth as you want it to be.That how they stay disciplined and in shape, my brother has been in the Air Force and he said it hard for the first few weeks, but later once you get used to the environment and mission around the base, then it easy. He's not a pilot btw, he's a battlefield airman, his gear is BADASS
Um, no. The F-15C and F-22 are air to air platforms, but the F-15E, F-16 and A-10 are all fighters used primarily for air to ground missions. B-1B bombers are also used extensively in Afghanistan for long duration close air support missions.
If you want to live on a boat with 5000 other men for six months at a time, join the Navy. If you want to have the best chance of flying something with actual wings (most Navy pilots fly helicopters) and live in much better conditions, be smart, go USAF!
You're from fucking Canada, you've never been deployed, how would you know who gets used more? you don't. My older brother has called in several airstrikes over there from what hes told me, its been ALLL navy pilots and planes doing the work. Retard
