I spent 4 days there in 2007. It was an awesome experience. I took my kayak and paddled to Bush Key where tens of thousands of sooty terns flew over my head in the perfect blue/green/topaz waters. I felt like I was in a National Geographic special.
I too waited for calm seas but on the third day I decided to do it anyway despite strong winds and choppy seas and kayaked to Loggerhead Island. Awesome and intense. Snorkeled alone in the ocean wilderness and coral reefs. It was spectacular!
