Or maybe if you used a metal drum and insulated the top, but then touched the middle of the fine sand, it might make a crazy glass web... but that might actually take a much higher voltage...
@Asylumescapee69 This has been done before, "artificial fungurites"... You don't need that high voltage, just bring the electrodes close together and draw the arc through the sand.

Power supply? It is the wall socket (230V) and if you mean the hv supply they are some ballasted mots, around 1600VA
